  • A technique that has carried over from Smash 4: Tether Cancelling. Recently used at the 2GGaming Prime Saga by Dark Samus player YB against Dreamer, catching both his opponent and the commentators off guard. Its uses are limited, if any, but here's my breakdown of how this mechanic works.

    In smash 4 this was prominently done with Lucas, there's a whole video about 'snakeskipping' and they say it's possible with all tethers but Lucas gets the most mileage. Possible in ultimate, though I think it was better in smash 4.

    So is it a matter of tether, then holding analog stick in an appropriate direction once you've grabbed ledge?

    • @suavepuppygaming6038
      @suavepuppygaming6038  4 года назад +2

      Hey there,
      It's essentially about having the tether reach the ledge, and then flicking down on the analog stick to cancel it at any point before your character pulls themselves in. Holding the direction might accidently lead to a fast fall, so just a quick flick will do the trick.
      Jumping right before tethering with a floaty character like Samus means you have more time and maneuverability before canceling the tether. Faster falling characters don't have quite as much leeway. If you hold away or forward during the ascent of your jump tether, then you can pull back away from the ledge before canceling, or fly further into the stage depending on what direction you're holding.

    How do you tether? (I play on a single joycon)

    • @suavepuppygaming6038
      @suavepuppygaming6038  4 года назад +2

      Depends on which character you're using and whether or not they're tethering with their grab or their up-special. Characters such as Samus and Lucas use their grab, while Ivysaur and Joker use up-special. If you haven't changed your buttons around, grab (and grab tethering) is set to the SL button on a single joy-con, so the trigger on the left side, but you have to be within a certain range for it to snap to the ledge. Hope this helps
