As a former member of Andy's Church, I can assure you everything they said here is correct and what they do / have done in their services is 100% correct. one of my good friends from high school /college said he never liked him and thought he had zero respect for God's Word and I thought my friend was crazy when he said this. My friend said this around 5-6 years ago. my same exact friend recommended that I should watch the American Gospel Documentary when the first one came out because I did listen to other WOF/NAR pastors, specifically Todd White and sometimes Joel Osteen & Andrew Wommack, along with going to Andy Stanley's church and after watching the AG Doc, I realized how deceived I actually was...after growing in more faith & discernment throughout the past couple of years reading God's word, now I see why my friend never liked him and how Andy is a False Teacher that needs to be avoided

Please don't mention Andy Stanley and Joel "O" in the same paragraph! Andy has an M.Div from Dallas Seminary and he had a distinguished tenure as Youth Pastor at FBC Atlanta. Joel "O" didn't even bother to do to seminary and thus was not evaluated for fitness for ministry by any objective group/faculty. He does a great job with prosperity theology, though :-(

Because once he allowed his life to go against the Lord & the truth of the Word, Satan took him over. So now he says what the enemy is teaching & telling him to. Teaching gone right out the window. He's dangerous. 😢

They have poisoned the punch bowl in the SBC. Stanley has so many faithful supporters that you can show them everything he has said over the last 2 years and they will refuse to believe it. "What is the context" they ask. "He means something else". What context do you need when he says he wished he had the faith of the homosexual couple coming to church to worship their heavenly father? Or one of his satellite churches having women baptize a practicing homosexual.

He was a nominal Catholic who had been a drummer in a Punk Rock band in Detroit prior to moving to Atlanta. He said his neighbor had invited him to North Point church and wanted to know what I thought of it. I gave him my thoughts at tempered to an unsaved person.

I think Josh's opening statement about Andy Stanley sums up the issue. I've come across a lot of Stanley's teaching/courses in Ireland where he has been pretty popular in the very small protestant community. I think Stanley is a dangerous teacher/speaker for the very reasons you say. To me he dips in and out of truth, he is a very good communicator and he can draw in the listener with some truthful statements before leading you away from orthodoxy. Many who have been openly labled as false teachers like Osteen, Johnson, White, Copeland are generally pretty transparent in their teaching. Like it or hate it, you kinda know what you're getting (in the most part). Stanley is a very different cookie. In some ways he reminds me of politicians who use techniques like telling you that you are clearly agree on an issue or skimming over a point in stating that it's obvious and doesn't require discussion. But I listened some time ago to a discussion on a radio show called 'Unbelievable?' between Stanley and Jeff Durbin. One of Stanley's arguments was that quote, "the Bible didn't say anything... John did. Moses did.." etc. So initially you think that sounds ok. But a few sentences before he mentions (very casually) the 'problems' of the Bible, such as 6 day creation, young earth vs new earth and........homosexuality. These he sees (almost glibly) as 'problem' issues in the Bible and so let's not get hung up on those 'little problems' and focus on what certain people in the Bible said about Jesus. That subtle distinction opens the door for Stanley to pick and choose from the Bible what is important and at his leisure he can use compassion and 'love' to overrule anything that he doesn't like. That has swung the door wide open for same sex 'marriage'. He's a very slippery character and I think he is far more dangerous than a Copeland or Hinn etc as he can quite easily draw even fairly conservative Christians into his way of thinking..

Gentlemen, I was first saved back in 1994 through the ministry of Dr. Charles Stanley! Dr. Stanley preached the harsh truth of the Bible. The problem with Andy and many others, is that they don't want to be the guy who is unpopular because he's telling the harsh truth of God's Word.
"Go along to get along" is the recurring theme in our idiotic society nowadays! In order to preach the truth of the Bible, you have to not care about people's feelings and care more about the Truth!! I continually speak the truth to family and friends, and many of them avoid me many times because they don't want to hear the harsh truth of God's Word!
But for me it's OK, because I don't care what anybody thinks of what I'm saying! If the Bible says it, we're done! I dish it out the way it's written… Whoever rejects it must face the Lord one day! And that will be a lot more difficult than listening to me!
Fight the good fight, boys! 🇺🇸✝️🇺🇸

He doesn't say the NT isn't important. He literally QUOTES JESUS in saying that we are no longer under the law (the old covenant, which means agreement), but we are now under a NEW LAW, that of Jesus, the Messiah, who sacrificed Himself so that we could stop sacrificing animals, amd He declared a new covenant under the Holy Spirit, under the Blood of Jesus.
Instead of the 10 commanments, JESUS said He gave us a NEW LAW:
You shall love the Lord your God with all your strength, soul, heart, and mind, and you shall love others as yourself.

One of them, Patrick, said that he had a wonderful relationship with God. I said that his was a god of his own making. I must have argued from scripture for an hour. It keeps preachers focusing on scripture, not their scripturally unsupported opnions. The thought one of the gentleman had concerning being ok with listening to secular music I totally disagree with. Either we are listening to music that glorifies and elevates God or we listen to man/world centered music that glorifies self/world/satan. Andy's point about thousands of Christians existing before the Bible, makes no sense. The entire Old Testament existed and Jesus and the apostles taught from those Scriptures how Jesus is God's Messiah in fulfillment of the Scripture (John 5:39-40). So he must have the New Testament in mind. But how would he even know that? Only from the gospels and Acts which last I checked was in the New Testament. So he cherry picks what he wants from the NT to cast doubt on the rest that he doesn't want. No, can't do that. Either all of the Bible is true or it isn't. There's no middle ground or you've just cut yourself off at the knees.

Stanley is correct insofar as the Church was founded on a particular interpretation of the OT given by Christ (not just the dead letter exposited by human reason, see Luke 24:25ff and John 5:39), their eye-witness testimony to the events of the gospel, and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in their midst through God’s gifts of grace-prophecy, healing, knowledge, and discernment of spirits, etc. There were thousands of converts to Christ as a result of the Apostles’ preaching on Pentecost long before any portion of the New Testament existed. And while the Apostles taught the Scriptures were inspired by God, and were profitable for teaching and equipping believers for every good work, they also taught our understanding of the Scriptures needs to be given by the Holy Spirit or we cannot interpret them aright (2 Peter 3:15). This means that our ultimate dependence cannot be on the words (dead letter) of the Scriptures (original autographs which no longer exist or otherwise), but on the living and active Spirit of Christ guiding the Church, which was a promise Christ made collectively to His Apostles. There is no Scripture that teaches the texts of the Scriptures in themselves are self-interpreting, or that they can be read by individuals using “common sense” as some modern schools of interpretation have taught. In fact, they would have assumed the opposite (see Acts 8:30-31, 2 Peter 3:15). To be understood, the Scriptures, Old and New, need to be read within their own proper context, which was the living work of the Holy Spirit of Christ in the Church through a succession of leaders/teachers, themselves taught and mentored by Spirit-appointed and led teachers before them. This ministry of guarding the true meaning of the Scriptures has always been understood to be held by the office of the Elder/Overseer/Episcopacy, first held by Apostles appointed by Christ Himself and then by their successors-the Elders they appointed in every place they planted churches.

I grew up in the Church of Christ where any instrument other than the human voice was prohibited during worship. That includes a piano, organ and certainly drums and guitars. So in the eyes of the Church of Christ, their way is the ONLY way and anything deviating from their way is outside of the will of God. I say this to say, practically every religion thinks theirs is the truth and only way to God. I guess in a lost world, I’m very, very slow to condemn someone trying to reach more people with the hope of Christ because I don’t necessarily agree with the set list.

Not contradicting you, but it is so sad to me that this is Stanley today. Back when he was a youth min. at FBCA, he spoke at my small college retreat, it was life changing for me. It was some of what eventually was his "Guardrails" Ive used his studies in groups many years ago. God truly used his ministry in my life. It's hard for me to believe he did not start on track and drift to where he is now. Also, I am shocked at using Led Zeppelin as a call to worship. What? That being said, I don't think a pastor has to wear a suit and tie to preach, the church has to have separate church wardrobe to dress up for church, and music has to be out of a certain hymnal and sound like it did 50 or 100 yrs ago. A high sense of worship should not translate to legalism or exclusivity.
