It has nothing to do with non members entering as Costco loves potential customers to look at their prices. There was always a requirement to scan your card prior to buying. The whole idea of a "membership" to shop in your store is idiotic. The money they make is probably balanced out by the money they lose from people that won't buy a membership. I believe that's how non-members are getting in to go to the Food Court (or, they're claiming they're heading to the membership service counter). The first couple of weeks they started scanning membership cards at my local Costco, the Food Court line was suddenly really short. Now, it's returning to pre-scanning crowd size. Interesting, though, that most of the people in line were pushing full carts, so maybe members are feeling more free to patronize the Food Court now that there are fewer non-members in line.
And what about the Personal Shoppers and Instacart Shoppers and UBER Shoppers? People send us to Costco daily to do their groceries for them. And their bar code is attached to their order for when we get to checkout.
The whole thing is a waste of time. It actually does make sense to get the Costco membership because they pay you after you pay them in advance. I typically get a check for a few hundred dollars every year because I pay, what is it 50-100 for a membership? What is the real reason for them doing this? They literally say you could still bring a friend.

10 to 20 in the BIG HOUSE if you're not a member.😊
You can buy in bulk at your local dollar store without a membership card.
You compare the local dollar store to a Costco. Do you eat cat food for dinner?
@@althunder4269 you must be a dog food eater
Hahaha..dollar store meat is so good!
When they give you a button to put on your forehead your still going to say "that's okay."😂
What abt a member ship person is sick can’t go to shop for him/ her self??
Costco is a Rip off. Pay annual card fees yet their product prices keep going up
You are a liar
Says you who has never been a member. lol
@AxeRyan80 Bye. enjoy Wal-Mart you cheapskate.
not the fast food section (hot dog and soda $1.50) and rotisserie chicken ($4.99) thats a whole bird....not a pound!!!
@@Waynes-xt9gr and the gas bar.
Before people used it if they are not members ,i dont mind
I'm not sure I understand the logic since you can't buy anything without them scanning your card at the checkout anyway. Unless you check that your ID matches the Costco card. I suppose it might keep a few non-members out or help a little with theft prevention.
Well, they scan the membership cards without even looking at the cardholders’s faces at the entrance. That said, non members still can use the cards without being stopped on the spot.
It has nothing to do with non members entering as Costco loves potential customers to look at their prices. There was always a requirement to scan your card prior to buying. Recently there has been a wave of thefts in wonderful, liberal large cities and Costco can't say 'theft', so its all about non members
Costco doesn't get a lot of theft. There's no easy way to to it. One way in, one way out and most things are too big to sneak out.
The compact high dollar electronics you have to scan a thing and pay for it and then they unlock it from a cage by the service desk.
The whole idea of a "membership" to shop in your store is idiotic. The money they make is probably balanced out by the money they lose from people that won't buy a membership. Furthermore, I don't get how scanning changes anything, if the employee looks, he sees a card. What does the scanner add other than logging it as soon as you arrive. I don't get it.
Don't go there then🙄
This is why Costco makes money and you are here complaining. They earn over 1 billion dollar just membership alone. There are only so many shoppers they can serve so obviously it's cater to value member. You can go anytime of the day to Costco and it's packed.
Feel free to shop at Walmart.
@@Elizabeth-vw1vb Brilliant, you're a genius, I would have never figured that out.
@@max6jay I'm curious though, why are you here frothing at the mouth about my comment?
that is the point? They need to install new equipment, more people to scan, but they also need to scan AGAIN before you pay. Honestly it is weird that people are willing to pay to shop due to Costco is very good in playing with people's mind. Costco gas is cheaper than outside but not all food in Costco is cheaper than other places. If you compare, you would know.
Why? You have to have you card scanned at the checkout.
I love them but haven't saw them in vegas yet
Half the costco's never even look at the card when you walked in
but you have to show it at the check out
@@alanlangley7246 Which is why I don't get the point of this.
@@alanlangley7246 - Have you been in a Costco recently? They now have self-checkouts that allow people to use someone else's card without being checked. They were doing random checks, but this doesn't stop everyone.
@AxeRyan80 Good. More parking for me.
And lots of “your racist” accusations already hurled .. by ppl who’ve borrowed a card ..
Well that’s F’D, your better off walking through airport security where you get less hassle then this.
Every store should force a membership that requires a id to shop there . Thieve will less likely steal if the store could put a name to face in the recordings. Would be great having cops scanning cards and coming across people who get band for stealing .
Sounds great comrade
There’s so many already struggling families… making every store have a paid membership is just more money not going towards food to feed children

Why is it every time media across Canada is interviewing people, ESL is dominant?
Are we really that short of birthed Canadians for these jobs?
yes, apparently.
Pardon us. I have lived in Canada since I was 14 years old and I’m 60. Is it ok with you if I answer a question if a reporter asks me? I wouldn’t want to upset you.
I need Costco to get up to speed with other wholesalers. Curbside pickup??? Why don’t they have that yet? Scan n go??? Those lines are absurd and the shipping experience is awful. It’s like Walmart
The only ones who will see a problem with this, are the ones who have been using someone else's costco memebership to shop there.
So the annoying people holding up lines are not there now?
what annoying people?
@@althunder4269 The endless people that get paid to stand there and do nothing but cause lineups.
Costco should let executive members have their own lines and such as well. Why should I stand in the same line with the cheap members.
And a reserved parking area for Executive members as well.
With the “cheap members” is hilarious. You could as well demand for a spa treatment while shopping
Good idea since I am an executive member.
@@lizzieoluwaseyi5869 Hey, if you pay more, you should benefit more. Not my fault you are one of those cheap members with the lower membership. With a last name like yours, you are probably getting a government handout, so makes sense you are cheap.
Seems odd. They check the ID when you check out.
Next will be a qr code to see if you are up to date. Overton window gently sliding over.
What’s the point of scanning? Can’t you still use someone else’s card?
Pay for the right to shop lol
Nobody is forcing you to go to Costco. You can just go to Walmart.
Everytime you shop anywhere you're paying. LOL
Nothing special in Costco. If Walmart introduce bulk selling practice, it can put down Costco in no time.
Doesn’t make a difference. If you are not a member, just give the member your list on what items you want to buy , pay them cash for the items and bingo you have your stuff without being a member . Of course they are your friends OR neighbor you do it for. And to make it more easier have the cashier ring up the the item’s separate so you can give your friend or neighbor the receipt.👍
You can still go in without a membership if going to the pharmacy.
IF ANYONE CHEATS ON THESE CARDS USING FAMILY OR FRIENDS I HOPE THEY'RE BANNED FROM GOING HERE AGAIN!!
Good move from the worlds best store
And what about the Personal Shoppers and Instacart Shoppers and UBER Shoppers? People send us to Costco daily to do their groceries for them. And their bar code is attached to their order for when we get to checkout.
They have a membership. Duh.
@@althunder4269 yes I have membership and I don’t go to the store anymore I order from instacart but I make sure I tip good.
They say it’s to keep non members from shopping but it seems as long as people are buying stuff it should not matter who enters.
You’d think! I won’t be part of Costco’s childish in-group policy. Not going to PAY for the ‘privilege’ of shopping anywhere!
That's not how things work.

You never shop there so how do u know if their prices are competitive? Too funny
Excellent!!!!
Do they not already make you show your membership card at the door?
Do they look at the photo to ensure the person with the card is on the card. Because I don't see how scanning a bar code can verify the photo matched the carrier. Unless your photo pops up on their device.
But they don't check that now. So I don't see the point. But whatever.
I don't see what the problem is.
