I've never met you but you have managed to motivate me beyond explanation. Past few months I've given not the life style but the climbing serious thought. I need a challenge and you Mr. No big deal opened up a world of it. Thanking someone I've never met doesn't happen allot. Yet my hat is completely off to you and the entire Northface team. Thank you all for the inspiration~
Ive seen just about every piece of footage of alex on the internet for the past 7 years. the only places ive seen him wear a helmet are with mark doing a first accent somewhere and in patagonia places were loose rock and ice fall a lot. and for this little trad climb in this video... they definitely asked for him or made him wear one
Lot's of climbers will wear a helmet when free climbing because if they lose their grip and fall, they're basically a pendulum and smack back against the wall. if you hit it with your head with no helmet, well then you know what happens. Also, marketing for North Face/REI
Nice video. A follow-up with more details on the van setup would be nice. It's unlikely that a lot of viewers are going to take up residence in a van, but many may convert a van or pickup into a convenient hiking/climbing/backpacking base camp. This can be much, much less expensive than purchasing an RV.
O to be young, fit, and seemingly carefree, not hemmed in by societies trappings to wake up to those surroundings: waking to an alarm vs when you are well rested, work (sedentary job in a serial cube farm), mortgage/rent, cell phone.
alex spartan or frugal life represents a contrast to that of western materialism and successful professional athletes- an endless desire of luxuries from mansions to sportscars, exclusive clubs, body outfits that hounds almost every professional sportsmen. .despite his success people were astounded to found him living in a van instead of luxurious house and other personal amenities. .
you watch an Alex Honnold video and you feel more relaxed after watching it than you were before watching it

Likewise Joshua. After hearing and watching the Free Solo trailer he is my new inspiration.
Much love,
Sudarshan Gurung
Love the guitar and any content including our hero Alex.
Alex, I hope you made a backup copy of your journal just in case it gets lost or destroyed . That is 10 years of your life in that book..
A think it's a lovely and inspirational way to live .
Love how he doesn’t latch on to the nonsense vanlife trend.
Yeah they definitely made Alex wear a helmet for this... I've never seen him wear a helmet.
He wears a helmet a lot actually
where? and compared to who?
What do you mean where? Do you follow him, or just watch videos of him soloing? I'd guess every trad route he does is with a helmet.

I saw the 60 minutes episode on him with my family and it was amazing!✌🏻️⛰
It's not the stuff you have. But how happy you are.
You're the best. A real man!

Where is this? Was this in Yosemite? Route?

Alex Honnold uses a journal not a smart phone
Be like Alex...
AND WHERE IS HIS LYCRA !
That is so 1989
Please don't do that again! If you have lived in Yosemite, then you have met Miwok people. Tutakanula helped you. Don't be always expecting that.
