This is my second year doing the challenge also. By putting a zero spend on groceries for the two months, it really showed me where my storage was lacking. It made me look at my food storage differently. Like what if SHTF and we really couldn’t go to the grocery store or what if the grocery store was empty.
Every January I go through our pantries and pull out everything that will expire during that year. During the pantry challenge, we purpose to eat those foods first. Soups, stews, and casseroles are great ways to use up that food because you can experiment with different combinations to create new recipes! During the challenge, I also like to pull one thing out of the freezers per day and use that up as well. It's a great way to rotate all of your food!
I'll be doing the challenge again this year! Last year, I recorded while I did inventory on my fridge, two freezers and spice cabinet. Hope to the same - and more this time. Last year, I made it 63 days without shopping, and I hope to go even longer this year.
My household is pretty good at rotating our pantry & freezer, so I feel good about it. We've took inventory and talked out our meal plans. We have decided to just buy fresh produce, make our own sour dough bread each week and do half the dining out. Once a month we enjoy hosting a family gathering and will continue to do that. This should work out and save a bit.
That's what is great about this challenge, it can be tailored to suit every families needs. Also love the idea regular family gatherings, good luck this challenge!
Here in Edmonton Canada 🇨🇦 .This is our 2nd year doing this challenge .We loved it and gave ourselves $10 a week for milk , eggs and fresh produce which we didn't spend every week.I enjoyed the creativity of finding interesting ways to use up stock piled items .Pulling a couple random items a week to use up helped alot .Good luck to all involved. Carol
Nice! A lot of people I have talked to are doing the small weekly budget and that is something we are considering for next year because we are only 2 weeks in and already almost out of fresh produce and dairy. It's tough in the winter! Good luck to you!
I'm in for the pantry challenge as well, though it feels like how I was shopping at the beginning of COVID. I grocery shopped once a month (for dairy, mostly) for the first year of COVID--so I feel this should be totally do-able!
New to your channel. I am doing this challenge, but am planning on eating 80% of meals from the pantries and current stores. I want some wiggle room to keep my dearest happy. I have begun making our sandwich bread, even. I have a robust storage as I can year round and have packed freezers. I look forward to using up the older things and getting creative!!
This is awesome, guys! I hope you will keep us updated during this two months. I want to start participating in challenges like this, and should be able to after this summer. Good luck with everything!
I'm hoping to use up lots. All summer and fall I've stocked up when things were on sale. I also had a garden this year. I'm looking for ideas for healthy from scratch meals and snacks.
You popped up on my feed, probably because I follow Jessica @Threerivershomestead. I am doing the challenge and look forward to see how y'all do. I think an inventory of what is on hand and what must be used up is important to this challenge. I also make a master list of meals I can make and ensure that I have the ingredients to use leftovers for lunch the next day. I have 20 dinners I can make three times and I do oatmeal or smoothies for breakfast on the weekends, weekdays are too busy in the morning so I intermittent fast. Best of luck to y'all!
I am doing the threeriverschallenge too and videoing as well. I have done my tours last week and I am so excited to start. I am doing at least 2 months hoping for more! Lets keep each other going!
I have a think for plant based milk. I have been using the oatmeal in my pantry to make oat milk. The plant based milk in the store has gotten sick expensive. I love your suggestions. Thanks

Totally agree! That's why I think it's a great challenge for anybody to try. Good luck this year :)

We haven't tried making our own oat milk but might have to because yes you are right, things are getting so expensive. Have a Happy New Year!
