Sometimes drummers record their drums tuned “super low” and you can tell in a not so good way. Papery and flappy. Your drums sound deep and full, very nice sound. Here’s a question for you that you may have noticed…..did the sound of your snare drum change to your ears acoustically? That snare sounds fatter to me in this recording, I wonder if the overall tuning had an effect on the snare sound?
Thank you, Clint! I know what you're talking about with the papery sound. That usually happens to toms when there is too much 8k to 10kHz added. The usual reason for adding the 8 to 10k is to make it cut through the mix but to my ear it sounds exactly how you described it. I add just a touch, maybe a dB or two of 8k, and a little at 4.5k. And that's it. The snare definitely sounds different when I tuned the toms down. I left the snare eq and compression the same as it was so I'm honestly a little baffled by what's going on there. I'll have to do some more testing and see what happens. More experimenting! Always fun! :)
The batter side is a Coated Ambassador and the resonant side is a Clear Ambassador. I normally have coated on both sides but I decided to try something different this time. :)
Sounds awesome, Brad. Slow down some of those fills so I can try them. They sound amazing! Thanks!!!
Thanks, Tim!! :)

I second this!
This reminds me of the snare from Soundgarden’s Black Hole Sun. That was a Keplinger steel snare.
@@StuartJrBarrett I third this! 👍

Are you using coated Ambassadors top and bottom?
