You really did fantastic Geebz, your a natural at this. Not sure if you've done anything like this before on your channel? As in "interviews" you could say, or talks with other people in the music industry? And your conversation with Misha felt very natural, great fun, both of you relaxed and most of all it was super interesting/Informative too! Everything you'd want from this style of video mate, you absolutely killed it! Like seriously the Rick Beato comparison is more based on the quality of the conversation than your similarities in appearance 🤣 And I think Beato is the 🐐 when it comes to this RUclips based music analysis, reactions and other song related content. So me saying it felt like a Rick Beato interview... Trust me that's high praise from me, and well earned Geebz 👏 Congratulations on your continued success, your channel is one of my litteral favourites to go to, I'm always on the look out for your videos in my feed.
Hey just so you know, in regards to the part where you guys are talking about Mike Portnoy. His son Max is the drummer for a band called Tallah, with a lot of nu-metal influences mixed with modern metal. Definitely need to check out, L.E.D or Overconfidence.
Geebz man, I was so elatedly shocked that you had Misha on for an interview stream. That was super cool and it was even more killer to hear both of you talk about your lives and how y’all came to be what and where y’all are now. Highly fascinating IMO. You should do this more often Geebz. I think I speak for everyone of your subs when I say: “Tell us another story, Grandpa?” 😬
Misha and the rest of Periphery are genius songwriters. Their ability to blend light and heavy while utilizing incredible technique and structure is amazing. Put some thought provoking lyrics with Spencer's voice and it's magic. It's like if an orchestra made prog metal.
21:00 Suddenly I feel so validated in life! I'm not the only one making drum noises with my mouth all the time! I've even driven other band members nuts with it, and even the drummers never understood!
Damn, what a collaboration mate! 👏 This is incredible to see you being acknowledged and supported by these amazing musicians. You've come so far Geebz, so glad I could join you for this journey from very early in your youtube career, it's been fantastic and continues to level up all the time. So appreciative of your work mate, keep it up you're doing fantastic
If you've ever bought this man a cup of coffee, hats off to you. Been following since December 2020 and Geebz has yet to miss. One of the consistently best reaction channels out there for sure! Love how open minded you are to music like Periphery or Lorna Shore and how insightful you are breaking down the composition of tracks and what not. It's quite the spectacle!
This is great! I had the chance to play with Misha on about 3-4 shows in Toronto in about 2006-2007. He was doing some really cool stuff back then and it was pretty apparent that he was building towards what he eventually started doing with Periphery. Super nice guy and it’s so great to see him be so successful.
@@iamrichlol we did a variety of metal covers. Tool, Deftones, System of a Down. Some classic stuff like Dio etc. We had a mutual friend who was singing in the band who asked me to play bass. At the time Misha had a pretty good following on MySpace as “Bulb”, so I think that’s the name we performed under.
I haven't read the comments, and this was probably already said... but this is my favorite guitarist, from my favorite band mixed with my favorite music reaction channel on RUclips. This almost 2 hour video is the best thing I've ever seen, not only on RUclips, but ever... I love you both so much. Keep doing what you're both doing. Holy Shit, what and amazing interview...
Every time I think of Periphery and orchestral, I think of their song "Lune". Would love to see a reaction to that song at some point. Such an emotional song.
I truly can't believe there's finally someone else who used to drum with their teeth.. I always thought I was extremely weird for doing it lol this made my day
I love when he mentions Nobuo Uematsu because the best song on their new album by far is called Thanks Nobuo (dedicated to Mr Uematsu obviously). The chorus in that song is the melody from the main theme of ff7 (clouds theme). There's also other ff7 nods in it, and a nod to the way the news goes from their p3 album
Geebz this is absolutely incredible. I've been here for a while now, I remember you first reacting to these guys and all of my favorites. To see you interviewing and discussing music with one of my idols is just crazy man. You've come a long way and its been a great trip that I've had the pleasure of being along for the ride. Super proud of you and cant wait for more. 2023 is going to be the year of Geebz
@@m1nd_drif7er5 Being great a great guitar player doesn't mean that you can write good songs though. I would argue that he being a good songwriter tops his guitarplaying, imho.
@@TemalCageman but again, he is a great guitar player, at least in technique. Periphery songs are very very tough to play. Look I don't have alot of friends.. I have no life. Except for my kids work and music... lol... I've been in love with Misha and his band for a long time they have got me through the darkest of times and have made music such a great journey for me. Always love what Misha has to say he's like a friend and a mentor I never got the meat in real life I'm glad you got to do this interview with him is very heartfelt. Both of you always have something good to say about music and talk about very interesting stuff
Man this is amazing. I remember seeing your video on Make Total Destroy and being stoked that you were checking them out. And now, you're pumping out 2H videos with them. Amazing mate, well done. And thanks for being awesome Misha. Made me pick up guitar again in 2015 listening to your music.
I do the teeth drumming too every day! I wasn't sure if anybody else did that! I always wondered if it was possible to create an instrument you could control with your teeth.
Loved this conversation. You two are both truly genuine people and it shows when you are together bringing out the best memories of each others lives and absolutely nerding out over trivial yet such meaningful details. So fun to listen to and I’m so stoked to hear Misha giving out his whole GGD library to a great person. Much love and respect all around.
I'm so glad you brought up the orchestral section of Reptile, I was hoping the whole time you'd talk about it. So awesome to watch you two geek out about stuff I don't even understand, but it's great to see you both light up about this stuff. Id love to see you revisit Reptile now that you're well versed with Periphery and metal in general. Would be interesting to see how things have changed since your original take on the track!
I recently saw in the past 6-12 months Misha and the boys commenting on Geebz’s stuff. I thought it was very cool. Here we are two hours of GOOD GOOD conversation. I could listen to you two on a weekly podcast.
Oh this is so cool!! I'm sorry to say I'm a bit new to Periphery musically but the 2 tracks they just dropped, I can't stop listening to them. It's beyond incredible. And the jazz sections with the piano and saxophone are just another level. Thank you for this Geebz. Love the long form discussions so we can take part and be along for the ride.
Good recommendations. Though I swap marigold for something else personally. Never understood why that ones so popular. It's almost my least favorite on that album
I've been a drummer for decades, and I've never heard anyone bring up the mouth drumming. It's so true! I definitely do that too. Moving my mouth so the teeth pass over each other and have some contrast to create rhythms. I bet so many of us do that.
Yup. My music career trajectory is really close to Misha's (albeit not anywhere NEAR as successful), and the teeth drumming thing is something I've always done. It's awesome to know that I'm not alone in that.
I'm mostly a keyboard player and I've done it my whole life exactly the way they describe it! My dentist told me it looks like I grind my teeth at night and I tried to explain it to her lol.
This was awesome brother, and y'all seem to get along great. Misha is a really good dude, he's brilliant and knows his stuff like nobody else. I hope you continue to have chats with folks in the field like this moving forward! As always, keep it up, you do great work my man.
It's awesome when you see 1 guy be like "hey let's do this sometime" and the other guy is like "yeah let's do that sometime" and then they do that..... sometime
Oh my goodness...I click my teeth to drums too! It's causing gum recession and the dentists don't fully understand my insanity. But there are dozens of us!
Awesome interview. I'm a huge Periphery fan and have been playing guitar for about 30 years. The way they compose with all the different elements is so very cool. The song that has made me breakdown the riffs and the way they use arpeggios is It's Only Smiles. I wish Jake, Misha and Mark would do a video where they deconstruct a song and show how they fit all the parts together. If they would go into the music theory end would also be very cool.
Geebz demands his storytime because he spins a good weave about his story and how music made the most impact in his life. As someone who has met Misha a couple of times, I'd like to think he can hold his tongue because he really appreciates what Geebz has to say. That's just my perspective anyway.
Misha casually rocking the Sennheiser HD800S lol In regards to Wildfire and the "quoting" of the Hades score among others in Zagreus put a big smile on our faces too.
Great podcast, now I get the Thanks Nobuo. I wouldn't have even gotten into Periphery or even metal if it weren't for the comments of Bury The Light saying over and over that you guys were the inspiration of the song
It’s funny because I was more of a Nintendo 64 guy and really gravitated towards Koji Kondo. The guy wrote the themes for all the Mario and Zelda games and Misha talking about Final Fantasy 7 is very reminiscent of when I played through Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask. Music composers have definitely shaped me as a musician. I also have to shoutout Grant Kirkhope (Goldeneye and Banjo Kazooie) and David Wise (Donkey Kong Country and Diddy Kong Racing) All are such amazing composers for Nintendo and need to be recognized. I also have to shoutout Marty like Geebz did, the Halo theme is so iconic, especially when they got Steve Vai for Halo 2. And finally Masato Nakamura for his work in Sonic 2 on Sega Genesis. One of the beat video games soundtracks ever
It's soooo great to hear the comment on the wildfire solo:)))))!!! Periphery is an awesome band with the coolest group of guys doing it for fun. I love the documentaries. Kickass interview!!
NOOO WAAAAY!!!! AwwwwwwwwwwRIIIIIIIIGHHHHTTTTT!! Love you Geebz! And you too Misha! Glad y’all have a new album coming out! We ready! Edit: MISHA!!!! I’m the same way with Deftones. I revisit Korn every now and then but Deftones have been the platypus of numetal! Edit 2: it just dawned on me that, just like with Polyphia and TimHenson, my very first “real” listen on Periphery was with you Geebz. And I’m wanting to say it was “Absolomb”, that or “Marigold”; whichever the order was bc if I recall correctly( ….😬🔥🌴🌬💨😵💫🤤)you did Absolomb first and then Marigold next? Or vice Versa. Either way, that’s 2 bands that once I “got them”, I haven’t been able to put down and are a daily part of my day musically speaking. Indebted to both of youse. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I have a $5000 road bike. It's a beautifully engineered fully carbon yet simple piece of machinery. Just looking at it makes me want to get on and go for a ride. This is the same feeling a beautiful guitar will evoke out of someone, including myself. One that just begs to be played because it's so pretty to look at you can't help but pick it up in your hands.
Dude, I was in a QT and in the restroom stall next to me a guy started whistling the main halo theme but didn't finish, ...don't know why I didn't, but I so wanted to do the faded choir voice at the end,...it was special because it was release day for the newest one out now. Video game music is just special.
1:05:00 wow… I really needed to hear this. For years now, I’ve been pressuring myself to only be original, which I think puts a lot of limits on what I could be doing. Now that I’ve heard this I don’t have to worry about if I’m original or not.
Hey Geebz! Loved yesterday's stream, don't know if you'll be feeling good enough now to read this but just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery! I loved the stream with Misha as well! I'm still here!
Teeth drumming! Ever since I can recall, I have used my cuspids (had to look that up) for kick, full bite for snare, shifting between molars for fills/ghost notes, and nose exhales for cymbals. Its so weird to describe all of this but it has been a genuine part of writing drums for me.
This is how good interview is done. Not someone with a list of questions for which the interviewer answers and then next question. There were questions and then they naturally lead to organic conversation between the two and also some interesting geeking about stuff :)
couldn't believe how much better the boost trick works. my Orange RV50 and PRS McCarty. Threw a hot cake up front and dialed low gain high presence and it just tightened up and made it sing!
This collaboration is incredible! Love it! Almost everything that Misha described as his growing up with music matches my growing up with music, it's pretty crazy. Had only become aware of and a big fan of Periphery because of Key of Geebz covering their songs a few months back. So much respect for Misha, Geebz, and all the members of Periphery! ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
It feels great knowing I'm not the only one who does the tongue drumming, sometimes when I'm working and I can't use my hands or fingers to drum I'll just lightly use my tongue or teeth and it helps me map out a beat/riff/solo whenever I'm listening to a song. It's actually helped me so much when it comes to singing and nailing note changes and breathing. It's funny how these little things we do passively can end up being another little stone in laying the foundation for much bigger things. Loved every minute of this!
Geebz these interviews are a pleasure to hear! Thank you! They've been very insightful and really fun! So glad to see you are able to connect with some of the heroes of our music world! Request for Dan Briggs as a guest! Between the Buried and Me's bass player. One of the best ever!
Think you’d fully enjoy Puscifer latest remixes “indigo children” and there is a video of them in the studio singing and jamming. I think you’d enjoy seeing them all in there.
Man that was fantastic to watch, there's so much about Misha and Periphery's journey that I didn't know! And lots of parallels to my own life, that certainly inspired me to work on new songs again. Looking forward to more of these sessions! One with Tim Henson would be awesome. 🔥
Maybe the next reaction should be the covers of “Uematsu” from misha, those are really amazing. I remember showing one of my family, and they don’t listen to heavy stuff, but also softer music they cover. But they got blown away. It’s just awesome.
1:44:00 so you mean like "LuCk As A cOnStAnT" 🙂 love both of these dudes so much. Such delightful senses of humor, and so refreshingly humble, genuine, and insightful. I sometimes slip into thinking that the shit-heads who think Misha is overrated have a point - but then I listen to one thing he's made and I'm like oh no he really IS genuinely one of my favorite composers ever. If anyone hasn't heard Misha's metal final fantasy covers (prelude bombfare, ahead on our way, and JENOVA) I could not recommend them more highly. They are far and away some of the coolest renditions of what were already bangers that I've ever heard. I think Mark may have helped with those as well - so you may find them under periphery or haunted shores.
Hahha, this was too fun!! Yea, this is kinda all over the place with our subject matter but we just started talking and direction and subject continuity went out the window :) Nonetheless, thanks for the comments and Misha, THANK YOU!!! AWWWRIGHT!!

Really loved the part with your backstory thanks for leaving it in
Incubus is so much better than most people know, great video Geebz and Bulb!
Great convo. Glad you didn't cut your part out. Fascinating stuff.
2 of my favourite music dorks talking about my favourite dorky things. More of this!
This is wild, Thankyou Geebz. I love Misha and everything he does, i also love your videos. So this for me is a treat. Keep up the great work.
Fuck yes! Misha and the dudes from periphery are very good at what they do, and they are incredibly nice guys. This is a good conversation
Congrats on the album Misha. I believe Geebz owes you a review.
Great podcast, now I get the Thanks Nobuo. I wouldn't have even gotten into Periphery or even metal if it weren't for the comments of Bury The Light saying over and over that you guys were the inspiration of the song
What a great vid/interview, both you guys are so fun to listen to. Can’t wait for periphery 5!
So dope to see this, they're next level at writing and deserve the recognition 👏
the episode i've been dreaming of.... thank you geebz!
This was absolutely fantastic. Watched the entire thing. Thanks Geebs!
Awesome, thank you, Paliv!
@@KeyOfGeebz You're the man Geebz!!
Thank you for this! Fascinating!
Fuck yes so glad to see this in my video list. I'm glad he agreed to come on!
So cool that a guy I saw posting some reaction videos over the holidays a couple years ago...and he's talking to some big names! Awesome geebz!
22:00 I have always done the teeth drumming thing as well.
This was a lot of fun, thanks Geebz! Also, your stories are amazing, glad you didn't cut anything out
It's soooo great to hear the comment on the wildfire solo:)))))!!! Periphery is an awesome band with the coolest group of guys doing it for fun. I love the documentaries. Kickass interview!!
This has made my day, what a clash of minds and hearts! Love it! Cheers from AUS!
A nice bike feels different thought. A nice bike wants to GO, and it’s difficult to explain it to people who have never ridden a high end bike.
This is so cool and I’m sure was awesome for you as well! Cheers! 🤙🤙🤙
Thanks so much for sharing this here, Geebz.
Been watching you for some time, Geebz. So cool to see you having Misha on as a guest.
Hey Geebz! Loved yesterday's stream, don't know if you'll be feeling good enough now to read this but just wanted to wish you a speedy recovery! I loved the stream with Misha as well! I'm still here!
So pure and inspiring ❤
This was an amazing podcast to watch. :)
That was awesome Geebz, thanks for sharing!
What an awesome interview man.
BRO NO WAY! Excellent score grabbing Misha on the show!
couldn't believe how much better the boost trick works. my Orange RV50 and PRS McCarty. Threw a hot cake up front and dialed low gain high presence and it just tightened up and made it sing!
This conversation was fantastic! Thank you both!
Just getting around to watching this and OH MY GOSH I DO THE TEETH CLICKING THING TOO!!!
Yaaas, thank you for having this convo gentlemen. A pleasure to tune in for it.

Holy wow. Great video! I hope to see more videos like this. 👍
And here i was thinking that drumming in my head with my teeth was some sorta tism...... thanks Misha, what a relief!

@21:30 Love it man. Same. Geeked out about mouth drumming haha.

Yooooo this is awesome!
Misha and Geebz together at last! so much thank you for this!!!

You already released this??? This is the best thing ever.
Great chat guys. So glad I'm not the only tooth drummer in the world 😂

So so cool, thank you
This was a Very interesting conversation between 2 down to earth guys... Great video Geebz!
Can't wait for more Periphery content in the future!
