I don't know if it's a myth or not but the reason why black during summer might be an 'unusual' trend is that black attracts warmth. Like it absorbs heat or so I've heard. I don't wear black that much during summer and that's one of the reasons for it
Yeah scientifically speaking black absorbs more heat, because it absorbs all light wavelengths versus white which reflects all wavelengths of light. Every color that you see in life is basically absorbing all wavelengths of color except for the color you are seeing. So for example, if you're looking at something that is red that means it is absorbing all colors of light except for red, which is the color of light being reflected back at you. Black is every color being absorbed and white is all colors being reflected at the same time.
Darker colors absorb more heat than white which is one of the main reasons dark colors are traditionally associated with cooler months and lighter colors are associated with warmer months. If it’s black cotton or linen I get it as summer clothes, but black polyester sounds like torture once the temperature is over 75 degrees.
I feel like white trousers are only wearable if you're planning to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING all day - I guarantee I would stain them within 10 minutes by leaning on something or sitting on the grass. 🤣
Oh yes. You know those seed pod things that fall off poplar trees? Sit on those things, and you get a yellow stain that neither Tide pen, bleach, nor NASA can get out
Have you tried the Vaseline trick with earrings? It works wonders for me. You basically just put Vaseline on the part that goes through your ear. I’m able to wear earrings all day that I couldn’t before.
Thank you for this! I did it for a wedding and it worked! I was good for like 12 hours and didn't even notice I was still wearing my earrings when I got in the shower lol
i got a really cute strawberry printed bag from the thrift store a few weeks ago. im obsessed with it. it was home made and probably by a quilter because theres tons of pockets, 4 of them are the perfect size for crochet hooks/knitting needles. also lipgloss. all of which i carry. plus, i love how unique it is
I found a gingham dress at Goodwill that I realized later is definitely hand made! It feels so special to find someone's hard work and give it new love :)
I really like the white top you’re wearing. It reminds me of one my sister and I both had in the late seventies. (I’m in my fifties). Thanks for the video! 🇨🇦
It’s fun to look at trends, but they come and go so quickly. Pick one or two you may like to try to add to your summer wardrobe. The most important thing in the summer is to be cool and comfortable. You look wonderful and your hair style really suits you! 💕
ooo yay i love when things i already have (red swimsuit) are randomly trendy. also this reminds me that years ago i saw a group of 3 girls at the beach and they were each wearing one of the primary colors, they looked so cute
I used to HATE summer .. I still kind of do but I’m trying to appreciate all the seasons but I’ve noticed that when it’s winter I want summer and when it’s summer I want winter so I’m just tryna live in the season and soak it up 😂 but yeah I agree with the bugs that one for sure is annoying!
When I lived in north Europe I loved summer! Now when I live in the south I prefer spring before the bugs come alive. I hate the fact that I can get bitten by a black widow during summer now.
Have you ever tried stainless steel jewellery? It's the same material as piercings are made. They are usually good for people with sensitive/allergy issues. They never lose their colour and are made for long-term use. It's my favourite material. It always stays impeccable. It's great for sweaty people and waterproof, and it's usually pretty affordable.
whoa i'm literally wearing a headband just as a regular accessory right now!! i used to wear them every day as a kid but at some point i started getting made fun of for that (??? so ridiculous) so i stopped.. but i'm glad they're finally making a comeback!! the outfits in the photos you showed looked so cute and inspiring
Omg same, I had a head band in almost every color, but I stopped wearing mine once I started middle school cause I thought ppl might see it as childish 😓
I used to love summer when I lived in Southern California and had a pool. Now I live in East Texas, no pool, so humid, and summer is just something I have to suffer through 😩
I grew up in Southern California and always absolutely hated summers there because they were "sooooo hot..." After moving to Central Texas, I now realize that I did not truly know what it meant to suffer in the heat
@@samanthamartin1407 I grew up in New mexico which is a dry heat and I loved summer. Going to the river all the time in 110 heat but it didn't upset me at all. But then I moved to Texas and I couldn't leave the house lol. I've been in Texas for 7 years and the summers have gotten easier... except July and August
I love summer black, im always outside in summer and need clothes that wont stain immediately! I do see a lot less people wearing black clothes where i live in the summer vs the winter, but ive noticed that can be kind of a regional thing. Like visiting portland oregon youll probably see more black summer clothes than you might in tampa florida bc the weather and general fashions are so different.
Alexa, I'm a big jelly shoe fan too. I actually find in the summer they do work if you get your hands on those really thin socks (kind of made of tights material and of course in fun colours). I have worn my jelly shoes without socks too (even as a sweaty person) but the ones I have just happen to be very soft. I buy them from Melissa. So that would be a brand recommendation if you're looking for some that won't cut into your feet ;) P.S. would you also maybe consider doing a summer styling video with your cowboy/western boots? I'm getting some for the first time and really want to enjoy them during the summer.
I've never been able to "get" how some people can be in the summer heat and humidity and their hair maintains its blowout, they're not a greasy, sopping mess, and their clothes are not wrinkled. My bestie and I call them sun Goddesses.
Wow! This video made me realize I am NOT a SUMMER TREND person!!! My go to summer clothing is floral maxi dresses or floral skirts and a baby-t. I also wear linen slacks or linen cargos with little tops. I don't wear red or black, I don't own shorts and I don't wear accessories. I do wear wedge sandals as my go to with my skirts & dresses & I do like a baby doll dress if it fits right. So I guess those are the only trends off the list I will be participating in 🤷.
For the summer, I love a bandeau and wearing sports bras as a "shirt" under an oversized button up. I'm also still a big fan of linens. I will also still be wearing biker shorts forsure haha
Hi alexa! One of your previous vids gave me outfit inspiration! It was the harley davidson tee/ribbon outfit you were recreating from pinterest. I have a rose ribbon necklace, and didn’t know how to style it until I saw that video! So thanks!! Lol. Also thanks for this vid 💛
So my ears are sensitive too, but I figured out a hack this past year. I keep tiny infinity hoops in my ears, and then I replaced the hooks on a bunch of my earrings with closed hooks that clasp completely shut. Then I attach the earrings to my infinity hoops instead of putting them through my actual earlobes. It doesn’t work for post-style earrings which is a bummer, but I’m getting so much more wear out my earring collection now!
I really love how in your videos when you show example pictures, you use photos of all different body types!! I know it is such a small thing but as a plus size person it means a lot to me! I love your videos so much ❤️
i always love the bestie chat vibes of your videos!! also UGH white trousers! i absolutely love them and men's painter pants would be perfect for making stains look good (and also i paint, so a lot of my clothes get paint on them...) but i would have to heavily tailor them to make them fit cus men's pants start at larger sizes. :'(

Great fashion chat! Very reasoned and fair. So many of these trends seem to involve dressing like a Strawberry Shortcake character. At least there’s gender parity: a lot of male trends involve dressing like overgrown toddlers as well. I think the lists have to come up with something new and startling that would appeal to TikTok, but if someone was tracking most worn items by even 'cool girls' by the end of the summer, it would probably mostly be pretty standard items. Those puffy sandals are especially dire. The squeaking, sweating, sliding and hilarious walk that would ensue... so many of these kinds of trends look cool in still photos but would look hilarious in real life or on video when practicality (gravity, a breeze, running for the bus, etc.) hits. Also it’s so much bulky waste when the trend passes.
im probably going to wait until i find a similar pair secondhand but old navy has a cute pair of wedge sandals rn that are making me reconsider wedges. theres also a flip flop with a kitten heel but those look hard to walk in. super cute but a really similar shoe probably already exists out there somewhere
I'm not into trends so much as I am cultivating my own personal style, but I love to use trends to gain inspiration or add to my style whenever something pops up that I know I'll love and wear for many years to come. I'm also a minimalist but there are a handful of pieces I've been thinking about adding to my collection for a while now. So this summer I'm going to try to pick up: - Unique, playful yet still dainty jewelry: I have my eye on a dainty gold chain beaded with little alternating blue stones and pearls. - Hair ribbons: Ok, maybe I was influenced by you, but they just look so darn cute and I can literally make my own from craft store ribbon. - Sleek Leather/PU mini backpacks or crossbodies with NO visible hardware: I've STRUGGLED to find a bag that suits me, so much so that I refused to purchase any, but I've finally figured out exactly which style of bag I love and this it. - White leather sneakers: My current sneakers are a pair of grey converse I've been wearing since 2014. It's time for an update lol. - Midi/Maxi skirts: I tried my first longline skirt last year and it's now a core part of both my summer and winter wardrobe. - Linen Pants & Shorts: I'm in desperate need of summer pants that aren't jeans and jean shorts. Can't I be comfy and cute? - A matching workout leggings/top set where the top isn't cropped or just a sports bra: My workout collection currently consists of old leggings and T-shirts, so I''ll be looking for a proper set. - A silk pajama set: Again, I currently use just old tops and comfy shorts, but I'd like a proper set. - A fun patterned swimsuit: I don't have or want many swimsuits because summer only lasts a few months, but I want to add one last fun swimsuit in a pink & red floral pattern.
It's autumn where I live so I really want to get a winter bucket hat. They look so cozy! I share the same feeling, wedges are not for me. Love this video ❤
The white trousers that are a little bit big on your waist sew some elastic into your waste band to gather the waist a little bit more and they will fit you perfectly ❤
Hello Alexa🌹 Try using a natural shampoo like: Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla and put some pieces of rosemary in it. Rosemary cleans the scalp, kills fungal and yeast infections which cause dandruff. Rosemary strengthens hair naturally. The chemicals in regular shampoos makes the scalp dry and itchy because it removes its natural oils. Good luck, and I hope this helps💖
You can get ear supports to help with heavy earrings 😊 I don’t tend to wear heavy earrings but I’m more a chunky ring girl myself. But my mum mentioned she found earring supports she wanted to get for a 70’s party she’s going to
I love these types of videos so much!! I've never had a red bathing suit but I think I look good in red! maybe next summer. I just bought 2 new bikinis last summer and don't really need any more yet
idk if this will work for you but i also used to REALLY struggle with dandruff, and then i got recommended to use shampoo with rosemary, mint, and/or tea tree oil and i've sworn by that for the last 5 years now
btw i love ur outfit (from what i can see in the vid anyway) it's so cute and i feel like it suits you? totally not one of the reasons i clicked on the vid :)
my "personal trend" for summer rn is super specific bc it stems from my current adhd hyperfixation which is sailing alksdjdskds I've been binge watching this sailing family vlog channel, they're so genuine and cool and idk the mom is so beautiful and maybe it's just that the clothes look good on her but I find myself really wanting to dress like her this summer but ik I'll be too insecure. she usually wears like, tied up t shirts (to make them cropped) or bikini tops with a light jacket and a sarong and always sandals. idk why I hated sandals before but I actually bought sandals on thredup purely for my "sailorcore" ideas loool. I'm sad I don't have a good swimsuit that actually fits me, I have a bikini top from a couple years ago but idk I don't really like the style or color of it anymore, so when summer gets closer I might just buy a bikini for when my partner and I go swimming bc his grandparents have a pool in their backyard :) I'm also gonna put little applique daisies on the sandals bc I saw sandals like that in a fashion mobile game I play and I think that'd make the sandals more wearable for me?? I just need my shoes to be cute af lmao idk. I have no idea if I'll be comfortable wearing a bikini bottom by itself this summer bc I'm really insecure about that area of my body and I have scars on my thighs that are still healing but hopefully they heal in time for summer. just in case I'll buy some swim shorts that are cute enough but I REALLY wanna be able to just wear a sarong over my bikini but right now it would show my scars :/ but yeah I guess "modern sailorcore" is what I'm dubbing it, is very similar to mermaidcore. I like some aspects of mermaidcore but I feel like a whole mermaidcore outfit is kinda too much for me personally but I'm definitely looking up some inspo on pinterest later for my modern sailorcore aesthetic lmao. idk if it's a personal trend like a temporary thing or just my style changing but I think last year I was really into short skirts and now I'm getting a lot more into midi/maxi skirts, as long as they're light and flowy enough bc it gets hoooottt here in summer, but it's not only cute, it's really great functionally bc it protects me from the sun (a ginger living in nevada is a bad combo lmao) and I don't have to worry about showing my thighs too much or the wind blowing up my skirt, but then wearing shorts underneath a skirt for extra protection just means more layers and makes me sweat more
I was going to ask if you had any tips on wearing color in summer because you’ve mentioned before how you sweat easily (I do too)…… But then you said how you usually wear all black, which is what I already do! 😂 I think it really is the most tried and true way to make sweat go undetected! 😅😆 I wear mostly black all year round, so it doesn’t go against what I genuinely enjoy, but I have been trying to slowly add some color to my wardrobe. I have come up with one way to add *some* color to my summer wardrobe though- prints that have a black background! 😊
15:46 I didn't knew that was a trend. A couple of years ago my mom bought me a crop top from Zara with the same style, I rarely use it cus I'm sooooo flat chested and have to use a safety pin in the neckline hahaha.
The only reasons I wear black cardigans in summer are 1) a part of a work outfit/uniform 2) I don't have light colored cardigans the same/similar weight
My trend to contribute is that I'm starting to move towards short skirts instead of maxi skirts, which is huge for me because I've always been a maxi skirt person.
I don't know if it's a myth or not but the reason why black during summer might be an 'unusual' trend is that black attracts warmth. Like it absorbs heat or so I've heard. I don't wear black that much during summer and that's one of the reasons for it
I totally agree! I think that’s why it’s odd for it to be a trend this summer but personally I do wear black to hide sweaty pits too lol 🙈
@@KimMartinez123 i can only wear black in the summer bc of this reason 😂
Yeah scientifically speaking black absorbs more heat, because it absorbs all light wavelengths versus white which reflects all wavelengths of light. Every color that you see in life is basically absorbing all wavelengths of color except for the color you are seeing. So for example, if you're looking at something that is red that means it is absorbing all colors of light except for red, which is the color of light being reflected back at you. Black is every color being absorbed and white is all colors being reflected at the same time.
why would it be a myth tho? it's science
I sweat either way, so black is kind of a good option for people like us.
Darker colors absorb more heat than white which is one of the main reasons dark colors are traditionally associated with cooler months and lighter colors are associated with warmer months. If it’s black cotton or linen I get it as summer clothes, but black polyester sounds like torture once the temperature is over 75 degrees.

I'm also a minimalist but there are a handful of pieces I've been thinking about adding to my collection for a while now. So this summer I'm going to try to pick up:
- Unique, playful yet still dainty jewelry: I have my eye on a dainty gold chain beaded with little alternating blue stones and pearls.
I love love the white top you are wearing!!!
You look beautiful 💖
Mesh layers. I have mesh and see through everything. It is my go to for bringing interest to an outfit.
Pixelated clothing is a very interesting trend
You can get ear supports to help with heavy earrings 😊 I don’t tend to wear heavy earrings but I’m more a chunky ring girl myself. But my mum mentioned she found earring supports she wanted to get for a 70’s party she’s going to
For anyone who needs white trousers, COS is a great option!
I have the same problem trying to find a bucket hat I like!! My problem is my head is too big though haha
Hi! Could you do a video about your favorite Etsy shops/ other small businesses?
OMG THAT TOP !!!! I love it and love it on you 🥰🥰
I also really want a bucket hat but can't find one that fits how I like.
Gap has some good bucket hats in different sizes. There’s a light denim bucket hat I got from them and I love it
I just bought that Baggu bag !! :)
wedges remind me of senior year of high school 2011/2012 in a bad way 😭
Ok I need to watch this over and over to remind myself not to buy things I know I won’t wear!!!! 🙌👏
I love these types of videos so much!! I've never had a red bathing suit but I think I look good in red! maybe next summer. I just bought 2 new bikinis last summer and don't really need any more yet
Does anyone know where Alexa got those brown boots in the background from? I’m obsessed with them and they always catch my eye
not sure if you've looked at them before, but baggu has super cute bucket hats and sun hats!
No pixelated fashion it looks like a costume for Halloween time to me😂
idk if this will work for you but i also used to REALLY struggle with dandruff, and then i got recommended to use shampoo with rosemary, mint, and/or tea tree oil and i've sworn by that for the last 5 years now
btw i love ur outfit (from what i can see in the vid anyway) it's so cute and i feel like it suits you? totally not one of the reasons i clicked on the vid :)
Thank you ☺️❤️
5:40 - the best trousers I have ever worn are from the australian brand SÜK! highly recommend. and they are sustainable!!
I saw the coachtopia bag in the thumbnail and RANNNN to this video.. now I’m crossing my fingers hoping it was on the like list😅😅😅😂
Earrings: dip them in Vaseline. Works for me and I’m very sensitive
Love your necklace. Was it thrifted? Or did you order it?
My friend Karina Gomez made it! ❤️
my "personal trend" for summer rn is super specific bc it stems from my current adhd hyperfixation which is sailing alksdjdskds I've been binge watching this sailing family vlog channel, they're so genuine and cool and idk the mom is so beautiful and maybe it's just that the clothes look good on her but I find myself really wanting to dress like her this summer but ik I'll be too insecure. she usually wears like, tied up t shirts (to make them cropped) or bikini tops with a light jacket and a sarong and always sandals. idk why I hated sandals before but I actually bought sandals on thredup purely for my "sailorcore" ideas loool.
The fabric makes a huge difference too! Polyester for example is kinda bad but line is really good
@@ami2788 Yes, so true! 😊
Where is your necklace from?? I’m obsessed 😮
15:46 I didn't knew that was a trend. A couple of years ago my mom bought me a crop top from Zara with the same style, I rarely use it cus I'm sooooo flat chested and have to use a safety pin in the neckline hahaha.
I never knew those were called waistcoats, I thought it was some sort of vest haha they’re stunning
Hi! Could you please tell me where you got the blouse you're wearing in this video from? I love it so much!
The only reasons I wear black cardigans in summer are 1) a part of a work outfit/uniform 2) I don't have light colored cardigans the same/similar weight
I WATCHED WITH NO VIEWS
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Been watching you for years but I only just found you have a sister??? How did this info escape me 😂 I totally had you as a single child in my head 😅
Haha I am the youngest out of SIX actually 😅 2 half sisters, a half brother, and then two full sisters!
My trend to contribute is that I'm starting to move towards short skirts instead of maxi skirts, which is huge for me because I've always been a maxi skirt person.
