This video means well, but there is a lot of misinformation. For example, they use the same laminated vislon ykk zippers on the genuine on as well instead of a laminated coil zipper because they're a lot more durable. They're equally as water resistant. Second, the thickness or feel of the jacket is not affect by what membrane they're using. You can have an ultra soft gore-tex pro jacket as well. It's the denier of the face fabric that determines how stiff/noisy/durable the jacket is. The places where you can easily tell the Alpha SV is fake is in the pullers, the gore-tex pro gridded backer, the inconsistent stitching, taped seams instead of welded seams and the lack of the laminated pocket.
Glad to see a video bring up this topic. I ordered one of these for about the same money , also suspected it was fake, but worth it to satisfy my curiosity. It came in, and I used it last ski season. After using it, I’m sure it’s fake but I feel it is worth a $100 , if a paid $400 or more it would have been a total rip off. The jacket kept wet snow and rain out, but it doesn’t breathe well, I left the pit zips open 3-4 inches all season which helped. Unzipping the front occasionally helps air out the inside at the bottom of a ski run. The jacket would be great for less aerobic activities, I’ll probably end up using it as a shell for ice fishing or just around town. I recently bought the Arcteryx Beta AR pants from REI , so it will be interesting to compare this Goretex with the fake jacket Goretex. I’ve never liked Goretex in hiking boots because it doesn’t breathe enough. These pants are my last attempt to use Goretex for aerobic activities (skiing), if it doesn’t breathe, I’ll go back to my RAB soft shell with a DWR coating to shed water. Interesting to read everyone’s posts who have actually bought this fake jacket, so I wanted to give some feedback as well. ⛷
I bought my Beta SL Hybrid from manufacture since my sister works for Arcteryx, so pretty sure it's a real stuff. The front zipper isn't waterproof, the hook is located same as the orange colour. There are seam sealed inside along the both sides. However the velcro on the cuff of the orange one does look cheap.
Of course it's not real, I got the fake one too, it's nice for a knock off. And I can wear it camping without worrying if it gets smoky or jacked up. Worth the cheap price I think 🤷♂️
I actually just bought one of these from a Facebook ad and used a credit card. 98.00. + shipping. Then I started to do research on it after the purchase. Yes, not very smart. However, if I get a jacket like the knockoff one in this video, I will be absolutely thrilled. To me, that thing is absolutely worth 98.00. Even if I just use it for walking the dog in the rain or whatever. I’ve had several high end jackets over the years (Mountain Hardwear, Lowe Alpine, TNF), ordered directly from the websites and if they weren’t ordered direct from their websites I would have swore they were knockoffs because the quality isn’t always consistent. We’ll see what happens when I get this thing, if it even shows up. Hopefully I’ll get the same thing you got.
Thank you very much for the review, it just helped me a lot to not buy a fake one here in Germany. The one I was considering to buy had almost exactly the same fake details you are describing. Thanks again
Thx for making this video. It is actually really easy to tell the sv is fake. The fake gore Tex backer fabric doesn’t have that grid structure. The fake one just printed the grid. Easy call for a shell jacket, but if you get an insulated jacket that doesn’t show the gore Tex backer, it’s going to be harder.
Thanks for the vid...mine arrived today but was almost sure it was fake... I always pay via Pay Pal for stuff like this and have yet to be refused a refund from PayPal...time to scam the scammers!
I also had to know if it was for really. If it's too good to be true, it probably is lol. I personally took the jacket I ordered to a store when I got it and compared it to not only my 5-year-old jacket but the new Arc’teryx shell jackets. It’s 100% fake! Looks ok from the outside, but the easy way to tell its fake is the inside of the jacket. Sucks we got screwed but I’m fighting to get my money back through PayPal.
Jake Smith yeah they told me (the ‘dealer’ ) that they would refund me 50%. That was a month ago but nothing so far... I’ve reported the ads to Facebook but they persist.
Lol you didn't get screwed, you bought an obviously fake Arcteryx jacket for hundreds of dollars less than they sell for from a random ad on social media.
Not questioning whether or not the orange one is fake. It obviously is a knock off, but the seam issue on the interior that you referenced was probably due to your blue Arc'teryx jackets' lining....My Beta SL Hybrid also has all the inner seams visible due to not having a lining.
Just found one thrifting. There is a model number inside on a neck tag that says its rhe Beta jacket. Quality seems really good, BUT from doing research, all Arcteryx jackets via thir website, says mens or womens. Mine does not. Really disappointed, but only paid $8 for it in excellent condition. Guess I have a knock off Arcteryx for myself now.
I bought this knowing damn well it was fake, I have a real beta sv and wanted to compare. Seems like a legit jacket for $100 bucks as it’s pretty damn waterproof(Ran it through the sink a few times). The one thing I’d warn about is I did try to change my mind after ordering it, emailed customer service to cancel the order and refund my money not 5 minutes after I hit the purchase button. And somebody named Kelly using somebody named Chavez Theresa’s email, who kept calling me dear, said I had to wait to get the package before I could get a refund.. so like, you ship jacket from China, all the way to Washington state, I email you I want refund, send all the way back to China. While it’s still in your possession right now. Hmmm yeah makes total sense. Whatever, fuck it. After comparing it to my real beta, Theres a few noticeable differences right off. Zipper is not ykk, it is the same kind they use, just the cheaper brand. The bottom pull string around the waist isn’t stitched on the outside. It’s only taped or “welded” on the inside on the real ones. Also the strings on the zippers don’t have those solid bits it’s just strings with knots. Oh well, gonna rock it. Thanks for making the video bud, stay dry!
Idk if it’s ‘real’ goretex or if it just says so. I haven’t tested it in a heavy rain yet (turned too cold too quickly here in Canada) but it was fine in light rain so far.
Unlikely that it's real Goretex, I'm fairly sure that Goretex only allow vetted manufacturers to use their products. Just about any brand new "waterproof" jacket will work fine for the first couple of times out in light rain because the DWR coating causes it to bread off. The real test is in prolonged rain when the coating gives up and rain starts to be absorbed into the fabric. Also over time the laminated fabric starts to bubble up and the Goretex lining breaks down (this happens really quickly on Goretex lined shoes). I'm guessing that this will probably occur more rapidly on the imitation product. Another factor is breathability. A good lining will let sweat escape to reasonable degree. This makes a massive difference to your comfort. Cheap waterproof membranes are like wearing a plastic bag and you get just as wet from your sweat as you do from the rain.
You cannot get gore Tex for production unless they approve it. They only allow quality manufacturers buy their product for mass production. This is a cheap Chinese jacket with an arcteryx logo. If all you care about is image and not functionality this is the jacket for you.
Over half the stuff you’re saying is not true. I have a real Arcteryx Alpha SV directly from Arcteryx. You might want to compare apples to apples because the models vary by a lot.
He is right on: - The stitching - The seams - The pull strings on the bottom - The feel of the fabric Some details are indeed the same, but overall he noticed like 80% the actual flaws of this fake. Good job!
Pretty hilarious the genuine one is labelled Made in China and the fake one is Made in Canada ! ...LoL Actually genuine 3L Gore-Tex should have seam tapes, your genuine one seems to be only a 2L Gore-Tex shell with a hanging internal lining is the reason you don't see any seam tapes.
I feel like it was a poorly researched video and you could have done with looking at images on the actual arc’teryx website to compare against. Other than that it was a good video thanks
Original ones have that hook exactly in the same spot! Also, that inside pocket is exactly in the same spot same style, not the same material but spot and positioning are the same those inside hood locks for the adjustments for the hood are exactly the same on the original! The front zipper is exactly the same on the original plus you comparing to different jackets style it makes no sense to be comparing this even if one of them is fake or not. It seems you just assuming it's fake because it doesn't match your witch it will never match since they are not the same style, to begin with. 😑 plus I've never seen an Arcteryx jacket with that big ass patch on the left arm on the blue one! I thought the blue one was a fake jacket. This video doesn't add up. Plus mine i ordered it from backcountry and they are legitimate and Arcteryx themself have verified mine and it came on just a plastic clear bag.

You obviously have no clue what you’re talking about. That grid pattern has nothing to do with whether or not it’s real Gore-Tex. Lol
