Their link monsters can recover from the grave. I've had eldlich players exhaust all of their traps before I had problems. You don't have to go first with them to be successful with them, even without boardbreakers. If your play them carefully, they can break negate boards on their own, and their floating will make sure you survive.

Thanks you hardleg! I studied eastern Chinese religion in school so unchained and it's taoist theme has a special place in my heart. Love your streams and long videos!!!
I was looking to play a livetwin deck because they were cute and ended up using a unchained/Live twin deck. After a bunch of game I realized the unchained part of the deck was much more fun. Thanks for the video.
I can't believe this started with Joe getting 2 URs and _11 SRs_ from one pull. Sure, only 4 of those SRs were cards he needed, and most of the rest were unneeded duplicates or just not very good, but it's still quite a way to start the challenge. You have a 4.4% to banish all three Link-2s with Extrav. So it should happen about 5 times over the course of the video. Still feels bad every time. For the Timelord damage thing, I'm pretty sure it works the same way as the Recital Starling + Assembled Nightingale interaction. Which probably doesn't actually explain why it works, but I'm pretty sure you're at least more familiar with those cards. "Did I just play against TheDuelLogs?" is the best reaction to seeing an apparent mess of a deck. And the Dog Rate came out just about right in the end. Math says you should open it around 12% of the time with 1 of them in a 40-ish card deck, and you did occasionally play 2 of them, which gives around a 20% chance.
Thank you Takahashi, thank you everyday workers that keep our world running, and thank you Joe for helping me get through hard times with laughs, thoughtful commentary, and keeping Ojama Lime at bay.
The weird thing is that Joe isn't wrong about Unchained being strong but and a big BUT here even before the Floo and adventurers came the power cealing of the game was already above Unchained. Still really entarteining episode Joe, good work to you and the editors and yeah Que en paz descanze Takahashi. His message about how games bring people toghether and help them form bonds with other peope is always going to live, being in his manga or this game that he loved so much
ah yes, i remember when reached diamond with this archetype because most of the opponents refuse to read my card effect. The satisfying moment when link summon using opponent's halqifibrax
I LOVE playing Evil Eye with the Unchained engine (1 Disaster, 1 Abominable, 3 Rakea, 3 Aruha,2 Sarama, 2 Escape of the unchained and 2 Abominable Chamber, 3 Abominations Prison, 1 Wailing with 2 of each Link monster). IT SLAPS! lol
There’s something about him opening only the unchained traps, setting them all, and hoping the opponent might destroy one of them. It is the same energy as turn 1 set a Babycerasaurus in Dinosaurs when my only line is negated.
I combined unchained with the fire kings that the pack came with. I played fire king when I was young, trolled my sister quite a lot, and it was nice to play it again with new archetype combos like nepthys and unchained! People often quit when I take their monsters for linking, pretty entertaining
I tried creating a similar deck ("nephthys", fire Kings and unchained) also using "nine-tailed fox", but doesn't yet work consistently enough for me. Do you mind showing or linking me your deck list? I love making use of older archetypes and would be curious to see what you cooked up.
Master Duel desperately needs a crucifixion banlist. I get that the first one was light because it's some ppl would quit if you're f2p and your one meta deck gets hit, but the game has been out long enough that ppl can easily build multiple decks. I'm very sick of the meta being all adventure variants of piles, prank kids, and VFD/rongo turbo decks.
My favorite Tech Pick for "Going First" Unchained is Dark Coffin. You set this trap, pop it with Aruha or the Quick play Pop, and snipe a card from their hand. Ideally, Aruha takes advantage of this trap Pop by Special Summoning.
My favorite going first tech pick is Summon Limit. They can work around it very easily and pop it themselves if needed. Works wonders against Floo as well XD.
I really hope Joe revisits the newer unchained support in master Duel. I'm sure he's at least aware of it. Wouldn't have to be a full ladder climb. I'd just like to see his thoughts and opinions into how the deck evolved since this era. I think the new dogs do a lot for the archetype. Love your channel Joe. Keep up the good work brother.
Next time you play Unchained, I recommend mixing in some Fire Kings like Supreme Garunix. He's basically a Mini DPE that proxies off of getting destroyed by effects, comes back next turn and destroys all monsters on the field. You can also use Fire King Island to pop your cards, and use the Circle of the Fire Kings to pop Aruha to bring out a fire king. It's a pretty powerful combo. They have Unchaineds, Nephys and Fire Kings all in one deck, all 3 together, if properly built, are absolutely nasty. 10/10 recommend, if and only if, you know what you're doing
35:25 In short, it turns out that effects which cause damage you take from an attack to be redirected occur before effects which cause you to take no damage (and also effects which convert damage to life gain iirc). Deeply counterintuitive, but in fairness to Yugioh, this situation is similar to the one which MtG's Layers system solve, so there will inevitably be dumb interactions. (While MtG's Layers system is very well-designed, it too creates nonsense. It is possible for a card which has no abilities on the battlefield to affect other cards with one of its abilities in that game!)
Ok I had to look up the ruling for Double-edged sword the damage your opponent take is not counted at battle damage but effect damage the damage you take is battle damage which is why only you took damage.
no, the thing is the timelord. TImelords when they battle, they nullify the battle damage. the only damage they do is effect damage. double-edged sword reflects only battle damage, not effect damage.
I didn't feel much for Takahashi - I am saddened by his passing, but it was fleeting... Especially compared to when Sir Terry Pratchett passed away. But I understand the grief many feel, and I shared in the solidarity in that time. Losing a creative and expressive person, who has certainly inspired countless others - maybe the ones who achieved major success numbering in the dozens or hundreds, and those who just managed to pursue a decent living or source of modest income in the tens, maybe even hundreds, of thousands.. it certainly hurts. A mind, and even more so, a PERSON who can do that is very rare. Rest well, Kazuki Takashi.
I finished the video now, gotta say, I empathize with your struggles a lot. I've faced so many pile decks where I open no hand traps and just sit there falling asleep as they do the same starter to Halq to Auroradon to Barrone and a few Sword Soul and Yang Zing synchros... then they summon the Adventure stuff and also somehow manage to set an omni negate on the off chance I have Dark Ruler No More. Good thing Konami will probably not ban or limit anything UR unless it's at release... I mean they're clearly never going to release any cards you would want to craft or pull that are UR rarity from here on. I mean, you gotta look at it this way: they already got the money for those URs, if they ban them, then in all likelihood there will be more new URs than 1:1 crafting material and people who are already loaded on URs are going to already have everything they want staple wise or otherwise. It isn't like Konami is going to stop releasing new meta relevant URs. I was also a little upset to not see the new Albaz stuff since it was datamined. I guess that'll be next card pool update. I already have a good despia core, and enjoy playing the Despia part of the deck enough. I know people got sick of Mirrorjade before Verte was banned in the TCG, but I quite enjoy Despia's/Branded/Albaz play style. Using your opponent's stuff to fuse is always fun. The Albaz stuff got me to buy the structure deck when it released, the calculated error I made was that I don't have any locals near me and right now traveling to and from isn't really all that feasible. If I get off work at 5 PM and locals starts then, and is 30 minutes one way... :\ Oh well, I can think of a worse way to spend 30$.
34:55 I believe it's because it says you both take damage. If it said "Your opponent ALSO takes damage" I believe you wouldn't take any Basically the effect inflicts damage to both players, then the timelord reduces the damage taken by the controller to 0, but not your damage because your damage isn't based on how much the opponent took (or would have taken) like it would be with something like amazoness swords woman It's the same ruling that would apply to something like chithonian soldier
2:00:00 I understand that feeling just recently my opponent opened Lava Golem breaking my 2 monster board and next turn Sphere mode to exactly break my 3 monster board.
35:00 I believe it's because it doesn't say "Your Opponent takes the Damage instead" and rather says "Both players take the damage" it is calculated as such: What's the Damage? 5000, so both players take 5000 but then Raphion's stipulation reduces only the damage the Timelord player takes. I'm sure I could word this better but that's my rough estimation of why that works.
Unchained is one of my fave decks which I like to experiment on, I like to add 3 Supply Squad cause Im insane, but when it works, its really fun. +3 on one of your Unchained’s destruction is very satisfying
@@HardlegGaming Oh goodie! Also, I've managed to watch the rest of the video yesterday, and I gotta say I didn't expect Birds of all things to keep Unchained from reaching Diamond 1.
@@HardlegGaming It's because those Birds have been eating their Wheaties and drinking protein shakes, at least to my knowledge, I haven't played Master Duel on the account I don't have it.
If Hardleg Joe is able too, I would like to somehow see him make Dinomorphia's, not because its decent, but to see how interesting it would be against a lot of top tier stuff... plus Morbin time
Great video! Too bad I was super busy when it got out, I would have liked to sell you on Bakura Unchained. The deck doesn't care that much about Skill Drain, so you play that or even more floodgates + handtraps instead of regular traps, with Shifter (pre-floo since only sarama gets hurt) and the ultimate gimmick of Supply Squad. 2/1 of the Dark Spirits as well as 1 Curse Necrofear. Due to having 2-3 faceups Necro will consistently wipe their boards, also during the EP if you play with traps and chain them to her effect, she counts them as different faceups on resolution. Supply Squad gets out of hand quite easily provided you opened a play, and on turn 2 its already +1 but unfortunately the deck isn't consistent enough to abuse it fully. ............Or you could make it more combo heavy with Tour Guide into Cherub as well by skipping some handtraps. Cherub sends Rhino Warrior to mill Archfiend Heiress to grab eccentric and pop 1 S/T and get your engine. This version as well is quite the funny pile
Hey Joe, still love this series. There ist one Thing though: Could you include your current Rank in your overlay somewhere? I don't watch these videos in one go and that would Help to get back into it. Other than that, still one of my favorite Yugioh series in yt, especially love the alternating good and bad decks.
@@HardlegGaming Thank you for considering it. If it is too much work, don't worry about it. I just thought it would be neat since you already have the win/loss counter.
I looked into the deck. I put one together. I played the Duelist Cup event. I learned that people don’t read. God save the person who dares to play Mirrorjade against Unchained. That’s a recipe for disaster.
Have you done a Carrotweight, Rose Girl, Rose Princess, deck that is beside the Rose Dragon Set? My favorite personally. Unchained is my secondary deck so this video made me very happy
hardleg ranting about how komoney wants a pile meta so people will play only sr or ur cards while showing a deck that has mostly rare or common cards in main deck
I love going second unchained! Games always go so differently and the plays the archetype allows you to do makes it really fun to play. I got to Diamond 1 in 7 days back in June during Swordsoul DPE meta, but the floo meta has definitely been unkind to unchained.

Oh well, I can think of a worse way to spend 30$.
i like that you show the losses aswel as wins
I try to keep it real.
@@HardlegGaming for real bro, you have my subscription keep keeping it real!
Speech was awesome man 👍👍👍
34:55 I believe it's because it says you both take damage. If it said "Your opponent ALSO takes damage" I believe you wouldn't take any
Basically the effect inflicts damage to both players, then the timelord reduces the damage taken by the controller to 0, but not your damage because your damage isn't based on how much the opponent took (or would have taken) like it would be with something like amazoness swords woman
It's the same ruling that would apply to something like chithonian soldier
2:00:00 I understand that feeling just recently my opponent opened Lava Golem breaking my 2 monster board and next turn Sphere mode to exactly break my 3 monster board.
Genuinely amazing tribute to Kazuki Takahashi and everyone else
The amount of times I open with Dog is stupid.
I feel you
35:00 I believe it's because it doesn't say "Your Opponent takes the Damage instead" and rather says "Both players take the damage" it is calculated as such: What's the Damage? 5000, so both players take 5000 but then Raphion's stipulation reduces only the damage the Timelord player takes.
I'm sure I could word this better but that's my rough estimation of why that works.
Unchained is one of my fave decks which I like to experiment on, I like to add 3 Supply Squad cause Im insane, but when it works, its really fun. +3 on one of your Unchained’s destruction is very satisfying
Oof that optimisim in the beginning
I haven't watched the entire video, but so far Pot of Extravagance has been keeping Joe from completing his combo
I switch it out eventually.
@@HardlegGaming Oh goodie! Also, I've managed to watch the rest of the video yesterday, and I gotta say I didn't expect Birds of all things to keep Unchained from reaching Diamond 1.
Birds are a blight upon this game.
@@HardlegGaming It's because those Birds have been eating their Wheaties and drinking protein shakes, at least to my knowledge, I haven't played Master Duel on the account I don't have it.
Its possible that I mess up...
METAPHYS
I know there are literally hundreds of potential decks for this series, but I would love to see a ladder climb with a NR legal deck
It's all up to the patrons.
Only downside to the killer hat is not being able to see some of that killer collection :P.
I play the one pot that puts graveyard monsters back in deck to draw 2 because they are good in getting a lot in there
Good idea. You should come to my streams with ideas like that.
Everything changed when the Floowander nation attacked...
My fav tech choices was adding 3 of dark holes to abuse their recursion
Must say, I love the Hawaiian shirt
Expect more in the future!
@@HardlegGaming We love a host with great personality and style
Hey Joe,
still love this series. There ist one Thing though: Could you include your current Rank in your overlay somewhere? I don't watch these videos in one go and that would Help to get back into it.
Other than that, still one of my favorite Yugioh series in yt, especially love the alternating good and bad decks.
Hmmm. I'll consider it. But I'm not sure how to do it without giving the editor a lot more work, or coming off as redundant.
@@HardlegGaming Thank you for considering it. If it is too much work, don't worry about it. I just thought it would be neat since you already have the win/loss counter.
Lesson learned...UNLESS YOUR DECK IS BANISH FOCUSED OR HAS AN EXPENDABLE EX DECK DO NOT USE POT OF DESIRES!
48:19 that's not exactly fair. You didn't show them making VFD.
1:17 didn't expect a fate/ reference here
I've never played that game, so the reference is accidental.
@@HardlegGaming lot more than just a game in recent times
Joe: complains about having to gight Meta with meta and still losing.
Also Joe: (procedes to win within 2 seconds)
One minute in and we've had a fate reference, so I'm a happy boi.
You should do the Toon archetype. I think it's really fun to play. Plus it's gimmicky like ojama
RUclips why didn't you tell me about this earlier 😭😭
I love this deck so much and I wanna see Joe try his best
Make sure you share it around so that others know of it's greatness as well :)
Man, that second game reminds me of how glad I am I ditched Extravagance for Prosperity.
hardleg ranting about how komoney wants a pile meta so people will play only sr or ur cards while showing a deck that has mostly rare or common cards in main deck
extravagance is painful and i personally wouldn't be risking it without curse necrofear or something
One of my favs, my super secret tech is magical hats.
I love going second unchained! Games always go so differently and the plays the archetype allows you to do makes it really fun to play. I got to Diamond 1 in 7 days back in June during Swordsoul DPE meta, but the floo meta has definitely been unkind to unchained.
13:38 This is Konami SPECIFICALLY messing with the matchmaking, they put you against decks that play similar cards, probably to help weed out bots/trolls/long plays/etc.
