The worst thing is that they could’ve done something different but they decided to take the cheap way out.The lime was the cheapest thing so they didn’t care about the riders and mechanics.
We use that lime sand mixture to raise concrete and it doesn't give a chemical reaction to anything. It does sit in water and doesn't soak it up until it is mixed in, however it would deteriorate the bike but I think the "burns" was from the lime getting in there clothes and rubbing there thigh. But it doesn't give a chemical reaction.
We used to race next to a huge timber Mill and they'd come and dump sawdust around the track which helped on wet days the bonus was, being timber, it'll eventually decompose and add to the soil so no clean up
This game is surprisingly well made! I played the first one on ps4 and I remember it being so awful I returned it a few hours later.. I took a chance on 2 for PC and its like way good.
FELD definitely needs to take accountability for rider and crew safety, but from what I have heard from the riders is they didnt actually dump any lime on the track after the rain came, that would not make sense, it was mixed with the dirt, which is why in a lot of time-lapses of track builds some sections will look almost completely white, or like they are made out of concrete until they are packed, but that still doesn't make it okay to use the stuff. If sources are correct, the lime they used is actually a base, and not an acid compound as many people believe, so it has the potential for some more long term health concerns if ingested and/or the eyes are exposed to it, so I am surprised that they use it with such nonchalance. Most of the riders noted that their gear and skin had a "soapy" texture about it, which lines up in perfect sense with what happens to construction workers on exposure; that soapy feeling actually being the top layer of skin in the affected area is basically liquifying, thus causing the severe burns and rashes. I don't think there is any way to pinpoint the EXACT substance that was used but if one thing is for sure there were some better options, i.e. something like Gypsum, but nothing will prevent a stadium full of dirt from becoming a quagmire under torrential downpour. In terms of the bikes, they would be able to use the main portion of the bikes again, like the frames etc. But moving parts like the forks especially will be rendered completely done for, as the metal coatings will be useless, but for privateers they may not have the same ability to strip/clean their bikes. All in all, I really hope everybody keeps talking about this, it needs to be addressed and it is a huge dent in FELD's already fairly tumultuous stint as presenters of the series. Between the FIM, FELD, and the AMA, I am truly shocked they even manage to sort out venues to race with all the bureaucracy that must take place.
I PERSONALLY think it was something else with the Lime only because ive worked around Lime for a while and have never had any problems. However maybe ive just gotten lucky!

I did not know they used lime to dry up wet tracks over the last few years. I work at a gold mine (Round Mountain Gold Corp.) where we use lime heavily in some of our processes. Now I'm not sure if there are different variants of lime but we are trained to never touch lime and always have to wear protective equipment when working near it, because lime activates when it contacts any kind of moisture (water, sweat, etc.) and will burn whatever its on. This sounds like a massive safety issue.
In the construction field concrete contractor use it halfway through the cure to dry up the water. But they're always wearing respirators when moving it as they sweep it around. Kinda shitty that they used it like they did
The whole Limegate thing is pretty upsetting too. I’m studying chemistry right now and why would they have thought putting lime in water was a good idea? Especially puddles! If anything they should have used minimal amounts before hand, or just found something that was less reactive. Now riders were harmed, and yeah the bikes too but the riders are the main concern here. You can’t risk other peoples’ safety like that.
Personally I think that one of the reasons why they don’t want to confess is because obviously they will get sued. But if they do, the sport will be losing money it doesn’t need to be losing. Think of the privateer guys in the sport that don’t get payed very well for low placement in the races, that struggle financially to make every weekend. If they can’t afford to raise the pay of the riders every weekend, then getting sued will only make things worse.
Sand is not a chemical. Sand would not actually dry the surface, it only let's water past through more easily. 60 tons of lime is only 2 dump truck loads to use on a entire football field. It would take many times more loads of sand to have any effect and then you have permanently mixed sand with the soil that will be used every year for these events. Just saying there are reasons to use lime. This was just a bad time to do it
My point was, everyone including Queen Elizabeth knew this was going to be a mud race. So build the track with a lot of sand and make it a sandy Supercross. They used to just have sand races every year in Tampa and Oakland. At the very least, fans get to see something completely different if it’s sandy but don’t get a roll-roll-roll fest if it rains.

Here in aus, we ride no matter what... if the tracks wet.. so what? We ride... they shouldn’t be doing anything to the tracks in my opinion.. either let them ride or cancel the race..
Here is what I think. You lay down lime to make the track better, it rains and pools up. Obviously pooling water is going to have lime run off the other surrounding parts of the track into this pooled water. Its gonna suck but no one can predict mother nature. I am not defending Feld at all but what are you supposed to do? Look forward to it not being used at all anymore.
You can’t predict Mother Nature but they did put more lime down AFTER the downpour. That’s the big problem here. If they handle the material, they have to know the chemical reaction that would happen just dumping it in a pool of standing water, but they didn’t. Therefore, negligence.
So I’m 11 me and my cousin and are dads we’re gonna go up to silver springs motocross park with the same condition of San Diego and me and my cousin didn’t know about that chemical burn stuff and luckily it got canceled because my cousin is 8 and he doesn’t know the best lines to take so he probably would’ve got that chemical burn stuff.
