I'm genuinely convinced that the higher-ups at Nike don't care about their Volleyball division one bit. As long they get product out for a relatively big sport, they're good lol. That's how these shoes get good tech and accessories vis-a-vis the price we expect from a similar package if it were a hoop shoe. The tradeoff is that these go way under the radar but thank heavens we got Chris for that
This shoe got this sweet tech because it's basically Hyperdunk X with changed upper. Outsole and cushion are the same. Same as Hyperset 1 which was Hyperdunk 2017 with different upper. Not to mention Hyperattack, which was just a Kobe 6 in Team colorways. For volleyball Nike is just recycling their basketball shoes from a few years back when they still cared enough to put at least some tech in the shoes. The only shoe that they design specifically for volleyball is the Hyperace series.
@@lubick-vt3ut second this, and the hyper ace series aren't even that amazing either. a lot of athletes are wearing nike bbshoes for volleyball because the actualy volleyball division is cheeks
From a business standpoint the return on the R&D for volleyball is not that high. That is why they don't invest in that sport. Basketball has a much better ROI so whatever R&D they spend they get it back much more in basketball than volleyball. Hey I feel you because Nike wrestling boots back in the day were terrible while The shoe company Asic was much better. When I switched for one year from playing basketball to wrestling My mom got me some Nikes thinking that they were the better shoe when they came to wrestling they were not...lol
Love these types of videos. They keep us thinking more broadly about product. Took one look at the midsole and outsole cutouts and immediately thought "hyperdunks".
Woah, how the tables have turned. I first started watching your channel years ago when I was looking into shoes for volleyball. It's great to see volleyball shoes getting better in the cushion department.
Hey Chris, Of course this will would make a good basketball shoe - coz it's using the complete Hyperdunk X tooling. I'm currently playing in those, by the way. Quite old & now starting to come apart, but still hooping! 😊
Would you consider following the trend and trying out some Asics volleyball shoes, since they don't offer basketball shoes in the US? The tech they use in both categories is very similar. Their newest offerings like Sky Elite FF 3 (retail 130) and Metarise 2 (retail 230) seem to be great performers.
So happy to see volleyball getting some love, although I transitioned from volleyball to basketball nice to see that sport getting some good shoe love.
The perfect time is afternoon, especially during sunset. You can have a good meal hours before and also you get energy from the practice but you have time to relax and bring your body down before bed.
The traction, the bottom period, and the cushion set up is a cut and paste of the 2018 hyperdunk. It’s just a newer version called something different for “volleyball”
Yeees, finally someone who pays attention to the sneakers in other sports. Was always wondering what is in these new models of the Hyperset, maybe you can also check out the new model of the Nike Hyperace 3, previous model was the Hyperace2 and before that I believe it was the Hyperattack that are both inspired by the Kobe-line. The Hyperattack was basically like a copy of the Kobe 6 while the Hyperaces are more like Kobe 8 to 9ish. Am wondering if they got the Zoom air in front and heel as well. great video as always Chris, I think only thing I'm missing is you hooping in these for a few clips, but its still great to hear from you about them :) much love and keep it up
Oatmeal on game days for breakfast , something light like banana, protein shake, pbj, or salad , hours before game time. I don’t like to eat much after breakfast before playing , but lots of fluids , and then after eat a bigger meal once I’ve settled down.
Yeah ive noticed as i got older, the recovery process from playing ball or working out takes so much longer. I’m more skilled and knowledgeable now, but it’ll take me a day or so to fully get back on my feet 😅
Also with pre-game stuff, 2-3hours would be great. After that it's mostly water/juice. If I feel a bit tired I can go for an espresso right before practice or a game. *pre game/practice routine from a 36y.o.
I’m an avid volleyball player and there was a time when I was sooo adamant that there was a big difference between volleyball and basketball shoes. There really isn’t much of a difference but the best shoes I’ve ever had for volleyball have all been basketball shoes
It’s pretty crazy how much Nike’s been doing things with their signature lines cutting corners and leaving things out sans KD/Bron’s line. Also insane that there’s a shank in the Immortality 4, but not the Freak 6. And preach on the court shoes term. There’s a reason if you watch any college or pro volleyball you’ll see a lot of them in Kobes.
Im 39yrs (about to be 40 Nov 7th), thankfully my body hasn't betrayed me yet and I can still handle any kind of meal before playing ball or hiking, or anything workout wise. I won't purposely go crazy on a meal and then workout, but I can deal with it.
It’s funny, Last year my daughter played volleyball in high school and we didn’t find any nice looking volleyball sneakers so we got the Sabrina 1’s.. now we have nice options lol
QOTD: Water, yeah. No food too close to activity. Good find, and great job pointing these shoes out and explaining the logic behind them. Shoes are shoes and if the features match what you're going to use them for, I say yes. Especially in this current era of signature shoe markups (not to pile on but, ahem, Book 1) and restricted launches for artificial FOMO (ahem, Kobes, and ahem, John Donahoe--good riddance, by the way), sometimes you have to be creative in finding what's available and affordable. Thanks for the video! All the algorithm stuff is done--see you next time.
I have the same thing, I try to have the last meal 3-4 hours before hooping, otherwise I'm just in pain 45 minutes into the session and all the foods are spinning around in my belly
I eat a banana, drink a protein shake and have an energy shot within probably an hour of my workout, then i get after it. i might have a protein shake afterwards too. The 3-hour session sounds about right, but I am cramming in basketball, cardio warm up on the elliptical, rowing machine and assault bike and some weightlifting, which is one once a week. Have been doing this type of work out for years now and it works.
Hey can y’all do a review of the Nike Dunk Unlocked by you? For 160 they are a bit much however the materials seem nice but I ain’t sure if I want a pair.
Ideally, I need to eat no later than like 2 hours before a game. Doesn't matter what, as long as I don't over eat, but I do love myseft some pasta! Future question of the day : Other than the Golden State Warriors, which NBA franchise is your favorite and why?
I got Sole Premise travel bag based on this channels association and I've got to say....i got the leather one and it is really nice! I'd recommend checking them out!
If it helps anyone who hopes late at night 👋 I eat my dinner for lunch (bout 3 hours before hooping) I pack some fruit an egg sandwich and a protein shake. I also take some betain-HCL (if you take meds or have conditions talk to your Dr first). I eat that as soon as I’m finished cooling down. I wear blue light blocking goggles (not glasses goggles). I they actively begin to relax. Trying to get out of fight or flight (hopefully you was fighting) into rest digest. Breathing techniques, talking and moving slowly. Nothing too stimulating. Then I spend at least 30 minutes in pitch black bedroom before bed. Room also should be cool, not freezing but cool. Helps me get to bed if I hoop late. I try hoop early or by 6pm start latest. Hope it helps.

3 hour hoop sessions.... that takes me back to pre kids time!
These have the same sole as the hyperdunk 2019. This shoe was amazing. Very underrated

These look so much better than half the models in the basketball line. Smaller division, less oversight, more focused team. That’s my guess.
741 performance!! lets go!! can't wait for your review

This is the greatest sneaker RUclips channel
Chris, I play in the morning too! I do a chewy bar or little snack to get me going.
Also with pre-game stuff, 2-3hours would be great. After that it's mostly water/juice. If I feel a bit tired I can go for an espresso right before practice or a game.

Its tech is like hyperdunk x! And I love it. Can be played for bball indeed!
If it’s competitive ball I get too nervous to eat a lot but if I’m just shooting around I can eat a small meal. Thanks for picking my question!
I swear this my favorite channel on RUclips. Let me quick procrastinating and join the discord.
I really like how the Nike Swoosh sits in the middle , nice design
Ha! I totally agree with the eating habits before playing, at least 3 hours before playing! AT LEAST AND NOTHING HEAVY!

I believe this is the Zoom Freak 6, you cant change my mind
These actually look pretty awesome. Reminds me of some older nike products, as you said.

My same thoughts everytime i see asics volleyball and badminton shoes "hey they look like I can play basketball with"
I played in the Jordan 34 for volleyball 🏐 in college
That traciton is from the hyperdunk!

The Easter pastel color schemes are always 👌🏽
Got big easter vibes. These are nice I like the electric colorway.
I have the same thing, I try to have the last meal 3-4 hours before hooping, otherwise I'm just in pain 45 minutes into the session and all the foods are spinning around in my belly
I may consider getting these shoes, considering their price and tech. It's a good buy I'd say.
all yeah a retool of a basketball shoes for volleyball, most of the USA men’s volleyball players wear this and the hyperace 3 in the olympic
i thought this would have full length zoom but forefoot and heel is gud too
this looks good looking like a KD shoes like aunt pearl
awesome recommendation!
That shoes is very similar to the Hiperdunk X - the outsole is identic.
Great work

Have you ever reviewed the Nike Air Zoom Hyperattack, it’s a volleyball shoe with the mold of the kobe 6 , hyperfuse but with herringbone traction
Chris, have you ever considered being employed by Nike or any other company. Considering your experience and knowledge of footwear?
He probably doesn’t want his voice silenced or have to promote stuff he doesn’t believe in with corporate jargon.
As a volleyball player most players just wear basketball shoes. so its funny to see a reviewer look at a volleyball shoe for hoops
When the product offers more than current basketball models then you’ve gotta think outside the box.
When I worked for the swoosh, anytime people would come in looking for volleyball kicks I would point them to the basketball isle👉🏾
My pregame meal is three hours before. And it’s usually pasta. Or if I’m training in the morning it’s a bowl of oatmeal
Has some Hyperrev DNA
Damn great offering!
The outsole is straight from the hyperdunks Luka and others wore
Nike tennis shoes are also good for hoops. Insert Payton and Stockton.

Tennis shoes are also great for every court sport

Love you Chris
Most competitive volleyball players use hoop shoes like Kobes, lebrons and Way of wades to play
Can you review the Nike HyperAce 3 SE ? Not a "basketball shoe either but seems like it'll do well for hooping
Same outsole as the hyperdunlk x
Not in the market for shoes but wanted to show my support.
As a kid i would eat a filet-o-fish and Gatorade before playing. Now, I'm not sure because i barely play so there's no build up. Old age...
Good stuff
Back in the 90s it wasn't uncommon to see people wearing actual tennis shoes for basketball, Agassi's shoes were not uncommon.
these are hyperdunk 2019/2020 ish one of the best from last year, first year of Luka in NBA was wearing these😢
Is the traction good on dusty Courts too?
