You didn't actually had to reboot and choose another generation to restore `/etc/ssh` at 26:49. Doing a regular reboot OR just running `sudo nixos-rebuild switch` without rebooting should be enough
Does NIx OS work good with recent hardware like 7800x3d and 7800xt? That is nice it has generation backups so incase you delete important system files you can reboot and get everything back. Too bad Ubuntu doesn't have something similar...not sure which linux I should migrate to yet...for now win11 works for basic stuff...
I would be surprised if NixOS did not support those cards; AMD drivers are built into the Linux kernel more or less. If it's your first experience with Linux, I would suggest Ubuntu or similar distributions.
Ubuntu, right or wrong, my distro! I love the snaps!!! I daily run Ubuntu 16.04 ESM with 10 years of security updates in a VM. Ubuntu 16.04 the last official Unity release and the first release with snap support. So I use the latest stable snaps of Firefox 121.0-1.1; Thunderbird 115.6.0-2 and LibreOffice 7.6.3-2 :) :) Try to run the latest applications versions on another almost 8 years old distro release. Besides I boot and run the Host OS Ubuntu 23.10 from the best file/volume systems ever; OpenZFS 2.2.0. My disk IO is served for 99% from the L1ARC memory cache, it is like running from a RAM disk :)
Snaps will be the downfall of Ubuntu, IMO. They are a pain to create as a developer, and super slow to load. I assumed Ubuntu would solve the startup issues but it’s been years now. I think for newbies Ubuntu is probably still king, but Linux Mint is what I’d suggest. It’s based on Ubuntu but no snaps, a lighter weight desktop and easier to customize without breaking. NixOS is impressive and confusing. I’m still getting my head around it.
I'm not much of an Ubuntu hater. I used it for many years and even interviewed at Canonical for a job (never happened). I suspect many folks will be happy to trade off the light advertising and other moneymaking features for five years of security updates.
Thank you, that's the way a review/comparison is done right.
As somebody who has no experience with NixOS I am grateful for videos like this one. They are helpful. Thank you for uploading.

Microsoft does provide a docker image for SQL server which can be run with podman (or docker) on Nixos.

Debian is a better option nowadays than Ubuntu. Synaptic is a good option for a GUI package manager.
