Great class, Professor. I loved seeing the team smiling and happy after the game. They needed this win for morale boost. They’ve been working hard and do so each and every game. And, I love that the Sharks snapped their winning streak. Go Sharks!
Honestly good for Georgiev. 3rd good game in a row now and he didn't get beat clean at all this game. He's very close to removing the Fourgiev title in my book.
Can we a get a counter going for how many times ferraro tries a hard stop with the puck and just falls 😂 Do you think we can trade ferraro at the deadline for future considerations or is that too much?
Celebrini and Eklund just cooking, great to see.. Not only is the team way better than last year, they really seem like they’re having fun and aren’t throwing in the towel.
Hopefully they can keep up the morale. Last year, the Sharks really just gave up post bye week/all star break in early February, losing 26 of their last 31 games.
@ Agreed, maybe I’m being overzealous and this team has a lot of flaws, but it seems like the chemistry and drive have both seen a massive uptick. Really time to hammer down on the defense through all avenues, especially considering how bad Sam Dickinson was at the WJC.
@benwilson6559 Yeah. But Canada was terrible as a whole. Very difficult to make accurate judgements at a WJC (which really shouldn't be taken that seriously in the first place for player assessments) when the entire team is bad. The big gripe with Dickinson is he still has decision making issues but he is so young. Maybe he can iron those out.
Thanks for a Master class again, Professor. What I want to know is, who was that ringer making save after save in Georgiev's gear? I never saw him take off his helmet, so...
its funny that you mention the sharks not being able to score more than 6 goals since the end of November against Seattle. I only go to 2 sharks games per year, one in SJ and one in Detroit. In the last 6 Sharks games I've been too we've won all of them lmao. In the last 2 games, I've seen us score 14 goals, 8 against Seattle 6 against Detroit tonight.
I seriously don’t understand this pov a lot of sharks fans have right now… You’d rather they play poorly but get the W, than play well and show development but get a L. That is literally the exact opposite of what we should be hoping for right now. The wins and losses don’t matter this year, AT ALL. I’d 100% rather see them play well, show progress, show development, and lose, than see them play poorly and get a win. Win/Loss results are literally the dead last priority right now. Good fundamental play and showing progress is the #1 priority right now. In 5 years, when we’re trying to get the highest playoff seed possible, is when we don’t care how the wins come, we just want as many wins as possible. Right now, we just want good fundamental hockey. I truly don’t understand this yearning for wins that some sharks fans have this year. Winning is not currently the team’s nor the coaching staff’s #1 goal. Good sound fundamental hockey, learning from mistakes, etc, THAT’s what we’re looking for. The coaching staff would much rather lose in a well played game, than win in a poorly played game. And any true, non-casual, diehard sharks fan who plans on being a sharks fan for years to come, should be wanting the same thing. I don’t get it, I really don’t. This yearning for 5-10 more wins this year that does nothing for us, rather than wanting those 5-10 extra wins to come when they’ll actually be meaningful for the team in 5 years. Poorly played wins this year dont help us. Right now, we should be yearning for good hockey, we shouldn’t even look to see if they won or lost.. we should be looking for progress, development, sound hockey. That’s the goal right now.
I think you might be misinterpreting what I said. I mentioned that I would much rather see them lose 5-4 than 2-1, because it’s fun to see goals being scored. I also said I was ok with them winning a game that they got outplayed in considering how many games they’ve lost this season where they’ve played well. Having games like this consistently is, as you say, not very valuable. However, it is very easy to say that winning doesn’t matter as someone who is in no way associated with the team. For those players in the locker room, they care, and I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that they are happier with the result against Detroit than they are with the one against Minnesota. That goes for the staff too. That’s not to say they are satisfied, but it’s nice to win every once in a while. The Sharks aren’t going to just lose the remaining 36 games, I think it’s fine to enjoy the wins, as few as they may be, when they come.
First, I want to say that I like your channel, you do a good job bro… Im not trying to be mean or anything with these comments.. In response to your response.. At 1:18 you said, “You could make the argument that the Red Wings were the better team, but you know what, I don’t really care.” At 2:00, “yeah maybe they weren’t at their best, yeah maybe they did get outplayed at times …. But, they end up getting the win …. it’s a good change of pace.” Those are the quotes I was referring to in my original comment. You said it yourself, they got outplayed, but you don’t care, they got the W. Im arguing that that’s the polar opposite of what the team’s current goals should be (and actually are in reality, I believe). I’m arguing their current goals are the exact result of the Minnesota game… good play, regardless of the loss. I’m arguing that the Sharks were unhappy with the Detroit game, poor play but got a win. And that they *were* happy with the Minnesota game. (Which is kind of the opposite of what you stated in the video about your opinion on poor play but getting a W. I agree. It’s better watching a loss when their offense can actually score a few goals. A 6-5 loss is more entertaining to watch than a 2-1 loss. For sure. I agree w you on that part. But I disagree with those couple quotes of yours I gave at those timestamps. Those are what I was referring to in the original comment. (And btw, there’s many sharks fans who are voicing the same opinion all this year, last year. I don’t get it when we’re so upset over losses, and so happy over wins right now. That’s part of the reason I left the comment.. not just picking on you.. lots of people are not happy when they lose. I just don’t get it. Im only unhappy when will smith has a game where he keeps making sloppy turnovers, not improving that hole in his game.. when Celebrini doesn’t do something incredible, and keep on making his case for the Calder.. when Askarov makes a mistake handling the puck, something he’s good at but needs to improve also.. THAT’s when I’m unhappy with a Sharks game. I could care less if they win or lose right now. Development is the first thing Im looking for. We’re in the very first baby-step stage of a complete tear-down rebuild. Wins and losses are nearly irrelevant right now. So anyway, that was my point. 👍 (Oh and btw.. of course they should *try* to win every game. Im not saying winning isn’t good. Of course that’s the goal of the game in the first place, it’s to win. But, Im just saying, *right now*, W’s and L’s are low on the priority list for this very young, rebuilding team. In fact, it’s BECAUSE I want them to maximize their wins in the future, that I don’t care about losses right now.) (As a fan that’s watched devoutly since their first ever game when I was 5 years old, I’ve watched some incredibly good Sharks teams come very close.. and yet, only ONE Stanley Cup Finals appearance in our history. So, I know first hand how hard it is to get there, and to win a cup, which all of us Sharks fans are still waiting on. So, I desperately want them to build up as strong a team as is possible so that when we’re in our contending window, we might actually do some damage and make a couple Finals appearances, and take at least one home finally!!)
@ Winning is still fun in my eyes. I know the Sharks won't be doing much of it this year, so I try to enjoy them when they come. The point I was trying to make in the video, though maybe it did not come across this way, was that the Sharks have had many games this season where they have played well and lost, so I'm ok with a game where they are not the better team yet still win. Would it be better if it was a dominant victory? Sure, but the Sharks are not good and we won't be getting many of those, a large percentage of their wins will be even or like this one, and again, I'm just trying to enjoy them as they come. I think we will have to agree to disagree on the teams motivations here, perhaps Grier may agree with you (especially last year), but not the players/coaching staff. The Sharks posted a video of the room after the win and you can feel the energy from the team and Warsofsky as he gives his speech. Compare that to the lethargy from a guy like Celebrini in his post-game interview of the Wild game, its night and day in my opinion. Remember also that for guys like Wennberg, Rutta, Ceci, Vlasic, etc. they don't care about building good habits for 5 years from now because they won't be on the team by then, they want to win in the moment. Thanks for the comments though, its fun to discuss.
Hey Professor, Recalling Coach McClellan's time with us he sort of favors an offense first style of game with high shot counts and an emphasis on puck possession. I can understand why they are really doing well on the PP and not so well on the PK. It's early in his tenure as Head Coach but, I agree that an argument could be made that the Wings were the better team but, only barely in my mind. I thought these teams traded punches all night. The difference was that our guys buried their chances more frequently tonight than the Wings did. How many times have we watched the Sharks struggle to create quality scoring chances and then when they do create one to get stoned? Well, last night that wasn't the case. 6 different goal scorers and a number of really good finishes when they guys got their chances. Not much in the way of puck luck lucky goals really for the Sharks. I kind of chalk up Granlund's difficulties largely to his line being unsettled and now he is skating with another new winger trying to figure out chemistry. Add to this that as the top line on paper Granlund is facing the other teams best line typically and it is no wonder that he is struggling to generate offense. Considering the lack of cohesion with his linemates that makes it even harder to hold on to the puck let alone create rushes or hold the offensive zone. I do like Collin Graf's game though and I think if he can be settled into a line with some time to develop chemistry things will only trend the right way. I really like his two way game this season. I am very hopeful for Graf. I don't know what his ceiling is but, considering that he was a multi-time Hoby-Baker finalist in college, his larger frame, his work ethic and his hockey IQ I think we may look back on his signing as a key turning point in the rebuild. I also like Georgiev's game tonight Professor. I like the way he is trending and am hopeful that when Vannicek returns from injury Askaraov's time with the Cuda will be only so long as it takes to make a deal for one of those two goalies to be traded. Pete Clovis, CA
I think Graf’s ceiling is more of a middle 6 winger. Someone who you are very happy to have on your third line, but who could also have a breakout year and end up on your second line. Someone like Joonas Donskoi I’d say (similar skill level, not similar play style).
Great class, Professor. I loved seeing the team smiling and happy after the game. They needed this win for morale boost. They’ve been working hard and do so each and every game. And, I love that the Sharks snapped their winning streak. Go Sharks!
The 70s line of eklund, celebrini, and taffoli is so good!!!
Vlasic remains undefeated on the season.

I feel like Giorgiev is slowly getting better/more confident.
Hopefully. He’s not inherently a bad goalie, he’s had a good amount of success in the league so maybe he can recapture that.
