  • Don't get me wrong, I love using Amp Sims, but they're not perfect. The things I like about them the least are all issues of pragmatism.

Set up a template project in your DAW with a decent starting tone. When I get the urge to play, I double click Reaper, wait 2 seconds, and my template project loads with my favourite tone, and I start playing. In the same amount of time the tubes in my amp won't even be warm.

Horrible reasons to not like Amp Sims.....it sounds more like you have setup issues and a bias opinion rather than good arguments. Should have just taken a nap bro, just saying...

Look, it's in the realm of personal preference and I don't think debating about it here gives us anything except lost time. Personally, I believe you are on point and I would never replace the amp with this, or even use it if I don't have to, so there's that.

What I don't like about amp sim is they sound recorded when being played on my monitors as compared to the fuller sound coming out of an amp.

I am travelling the world on a motorcycle, with a guitar and recording system. Imagine trying to lug a Marshall amp on a motorcycle. Amp sims are fantastic. Perfect, no. But neither are amps. No one amp does everything. Man, I can record a guitar track, then run thru a whole series of amps in a few minutes and see which one sits in the mix nicest. Nope, just like all tools, there's room for amp sims too.

To be honest, the issue here isn't amp sims, its a poorly setup home studio and a less than ideal interface. I get on well with my Apollo interface because the 'Unison' preamp takes care of gain staging and all I need to do is plug a cable into the High-Z input and that overrides any other connections and I'm able to have both microphone & line connections for each channel and switch between the two and a properly setup patch bay makes any connection changes easy and no fuss.
If I'm going to record at home, I prefer amp sims because I monitor the actual sound and there's no extra time involved. But prefer amps for just playing.

I don’t like most guitar-amp plug-ins either, but a lot of the modeling-units tend to “feel” better to play while you record.
If it’s late & I can’t mic-up amps, I have a Boss GT-1 that has a lot of usable sounds & is fun to play.

I get that. I like amp sims just fine, they're dope.
But like I say in the video, flicking one switch on the powerbar that your pedals and amp are connected to is so much faster than turning on the computer, waiting for it to load, turning on the DAW, waiting for it to load, connecting the audio interface, making sure all your cables are connected, then turning on the amp sim, then having to update software lol, and it goes on on.

@@andrewsiemon It was a lot easier to record back in the 4-track days. Everything was plug & play … you could get a solid idea down in only a few minutes. The fidelity was bad, but it was a lot more conducive to creativity.
I think that like most technology, computer-recording will get more user-friendly as it evolves. ☮️

You had to set up your pedalboard…finding the optimum pedal order…what goes into the fx loop and what doesn’t…

@@andrewsiemonsaving presets in your ampsim and templates in your DAW is the same thing as setting up your pedalboard. Set and forget.
Only thing is load time which isn’t that much for me atleast.

They are tedious teeeking knobs is always through a mouse and I feel don’t sound good I was starting to lean towards digital =analog bout them I tried a line 6 pod go and it sounds so fake I can’t believe 1000s of ppl claim they’re the golden standard of sounds
Get the True Tone from real amp and pedals digital too many lil options when the amps sound like crap

Fair enough. I actually love the sound of them and the versatility, it's just the process of turning everything on that's so time-consuming. By the time everything has been turned on, I've almost lost my desire to play, but do so anyway out of habit.
