Cities: Skylines - First Person Light Rail Ride - Port William
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 окт 2024
- A first person ride on the tram/train/light rail system through my city, Port William, Autumn Coast, loosley based on Maine, USA. The ride is almost entirely aboveground, so no boring tunnel sections!
Fun Fact: all the audio was added post-production, no game audio was used at all.
Mods & Assets: steamcommunity...
I am not a fan of the vanilla assets, but you really managed to make the city look georgeous with them. Also i love the bay aerial views.
I don't really enjoy browsing the workshop for better assets, but I'm doing it right now for my next city and this time I'm gonna try and use no vanilla assets I think
Beautiful city, I like the views and the ride was enjoyable! Would like to see other first person routes of Port William ;)
Impressive urban layout! I love it! And glad you put in voice announcements and some effects, I LOVE those :D
This video is awesome! Love the intro and the realistic matching sound effects
Wow.
I could ride the tram all day if I got to see such gorgeous views. Thank you; I need to check out your other videos now. Simply beautiful, and I love the little realistic touches.
Love the way you modelised your transportation network!
Thank you!
I seriously watched the whole video.. Loved it! And the city has a kind of effortlessly charm about it.. Very well built!
Thank you so much!
RUclips suggested me several public transport POV video's these days but this one might be the best. Relaxing views, easy music, excellent camera work and great work on public transport presentation through on-board announcements and colour coding. If all I can complain about is the lack of sound proofing for your suburbanites, then this has to be and excellent view.
Thank you very much! It really is an incredible amount of work, two and a half full days to record the video and to add all the audio by hand so it is nice to see it is appreciated :)
This is one of the best city builds I’ve come across. It feels so authentic and I think that’s what makes all the difference. Amazing!
Thank you :D
Really cool city layout and. I appreciate the attention to detail with the sounds for the video
Thank you! The sounds probably were the most work of all (roughly 8 hours), so thank you for noticing :)
I can’t begin to imagine how much work you put into every single thing. 😃 Keep up the great work this is mind blowing 👏🏽.
Thank you 😃!
This is the nicest City Skyline city I have ever seen. Enjoyed it! Really nice views
I also think so.
Wow, one of the best cabview videos from Cities Skylines. You had a great idea with those diffrent types of camera and your city looks wonderful!
This is a beautiful city! It has a New England / Atlantic Canada feel to it, so it could be in coastal Connecticut, coastal Rhode Island, South Coast or Cape Ann Massachusetts, coastal Maine, south coast New Brunswick, or south coast Nova Scotia. Excellent work! 👍🏻
Your landscaping is exquisite. That seascape - so realistic. I'm blown away.
Gorgeous. I could only dream of living in such a city.
I love the way you’ve combined vanilla and workshop assets to look so realistic!
Amazing realism, amazing city.
@SolarCola This video is one of the best “ride” videos I’ve seen on YT. Dope camera angles, dope city, dope music, and jus a great ride. Fantastic job brotha💯
Thank you!
For like 3 mins I thought it was real. That is amazing.
Are you drunk? Did the train running over pedestrians at 1:09 make you think "yup, this definitely real"?
@@AlvaroALoriteJust like real life
This is absolutely amazing. Please do more transit routes in the future.
Wow! This is spectacular! Thank you for the ride. ❤️
16:19 Satisfying how you made a street with LRT tracks and trees this way. Reminds me of Stockholm, in Sweden, where i used to live.
This was absolutely fantastic. You should definitely do more of these
I will! But first I have to construct a new city, otherwise there isn't much to show haha (the other lines aren't that interesting :P)
You are a much more realistic constructor than many other players. Thanks for not placing the tram line entirely in bridges!
It blows my mind what people create in this game. Seeing stuff like this always makes me want to get back into it but I never have the patience to design a large good looking city lol. Great job!
I good way to keep it interesting, I found, is to pace the 'special projects'. Don't build all the interesting projects at once, build the harbour, then some suburbs, the airport, then some suburbs, the central park, more suburbs etc.
This city gives me a nice Scandinavian vibe. I felt like I was in one of the Nordic cities. I would definitely live in this gorgeous city.
Didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I did. So peaceful and relaxing=D
How is it possible that I've found your channel only now? This project is perfect!
I have a question: what does your planning look like? Do you prepare some notes beforehand that you adhere to, or maybe draw sketches (in this case - based on what Maine looks like) or do you just plan your project on the go and let your imagination go wild while laying out roads? Cheers :)
I used to do some sketching beforehand for some of my cities but I have since stopped doing that, because I was generally happier with cities where I didn't plan it out too much. By now I have used the same system to plan for the last four cities:
Step 1: select a 'theme'. I always want to make a city that has something special to it that I didn't do before. In this case, a relatively utopian city with lots of parks and low density housing, set in autumn
Step 2: select a map. I selected Autumn Coast because of the autumn theme, and I did modify it a bit
Step 3: do some research. Based on the theme, I thought of New England's famous red autumns and I choose Maine at random. Then I looked at satellite pictures and photos to get to learn the patterns. I didn't stick to them too closely, because it was a little too gridty, but still I tried to at least be influenced by the general layout
Step 4: large scale planning. I browse the map in CS and draw invisible lines with my mouse where the big features roughly will go. Here will be a big park, here I will put a harbour, this will be the edge of the city
Step 5: main routes planning. I draw invisible lines where motorways, trainlines and light rail will roughly go.
Step 6: I select a neighbourhood to build and do step 4 and 5 on a much smaller scale: here I will put a park, this is the main road that connects this neighbourhood
Step 7: I build the neighbourhood and adapt my plans as necessary, both small and large scale plans. They're not set in stone, for example in this city the city was originally supposed to be much smaller and have more farmland. Also the light rail was barely planned, I just wanted a light rail line through the first neighbourhood I build and every time it made sense to expand it further.
repeat as necessary
@@SolarCola Thank you so much for your detailed answer!
I have watched a lot of Cities Skylines ride videos and this one is still one of my favorites. 😍
I don't know why but this video is so relaxing 😎
This genre of RUclips has become my new source of calm in the pandemic
Looks really good!
Thank you!
This is truly amazing. One part that gives me anxiety are all the at grade crossings at every station. Those are just accidents waiting to happen.
Light rail goes slow enough (especially at stations) that the driver has ample time to stop. And they have a horn! Lots of light rail has at grade crossings because they run in the street anyway
@@WelshMullet That's good to know. I've technically never been on a light rail transit system. I just looked and the DC metro is considered heavy rail.
your city is so cute and beautiful!! I loved to see such a realistic looking city without millions of assets 🤠☀️
this video is all i need to unwind after a long day
Definitely a light rail service... given the extent of the time it goes on roads seems to be to cross roads and not actually run on them.
wow, incredible !, it doesn't look like a game, but those simulations of cities designed by engineers, congratulations!
Gosh, wow, this is amazing! I’m stuck playing Cities Skylines on PS4 and it never looks as nice as this!
It's such a shame that the console version has no access to the steam workshop, there would be so many more amazing builds! Altough there still is a lot possible in vanilla, luckily :)
My goodness!!! How long did it take for you to create this entire city? Its absolutely gorgeous
i just love this, can my sims move here? Which area would u recommend? lol
Very relaxing. Especially with this chill music. Btw where did you find the songs?
That's a beautiful city you got there fella!
5:04 Did the tram just went through the people?
the grade of the train line in the background at 2:28 is absolutely insane. There's no chance it would actually be able to climb that! Same goes for the grade of the tram line at 3:51. Way too steep.
At 2:28 there is no slope? Maybe it's the perspective... But at 3:51 you're absolutely right. I put the train line in there retroactively and couldn't get it right without building an unrealistically expensive bridge... So I just imagined it was more like a tram, I've seen trams go up pretty steep hills :)
What a great ride! Thank you.
Nahhhhh that intro was too cool. Big ups
next transport minister, greetings from Chile
Which map did you use in this bulid? Great video really loving it! 😎
Autumn Coast by MathBuster!
Nice place to live this would be!
What's your system? There isn't any lag. I have GTX 1050 3 GB , Intel core i5 9300h, 8GB ram , and It lags even if there isn't any road, house etc.
Oh, there is a lot of lag. I used the time slider mod to record this at 5% of the game speed and then speed it up 20 times. Also meant I had to add all the audio manually.
@@SolarCola wow! Thanks for your effort.Nice video.
I think its a good idea to have more than 1 light rail line
You can see in the map the Hillside garden station is a intercharge station like Upper Yp, but when we look at the first person, the hillside garden station is just a tiny normal station without a rail connection to main line. Can anyone explain this?
The Hillside Garden station is a weird one, the stations are really close to each other but you'd have to walk along the road for 50 meters or so to transfer there. But a lot of people still make the transfer
But i also saw in the map there is a one intercarge station without name, so what is it
Oh did I miss one? I can't seem to find it
Its below the Elsenfalk Park and Cedar Hills and in the upper of Centre for art station
Oh! That is also Cedar Hills, I couldn't fit it neatly as one station so I did this instead, with a weird line inbetween. a bit of a lazy fix and if I were to do it again I would've put more effort in but I didn't expect so many views :)
7:45 Kinda reminds me of Bondi Beach I don't know, with the residences on the distant hill
Looks good!! I subbed!!
Awesome work, beautiful city and amazing public transport. One question, is this Tram or Train as I can't make my trams terminate without an annoying loop
It's technically a tram, so I had to build annoying loops everywhere. But that's actually quite realistic, so I didn't mind too much.
What did you use to make the transportation map at the beginning?
I drew it in Adobe Illustrator, but a free alternative would be Inkscape! And with the CSL Map mod you can make a very crude version to make it, that makes it easier to make the actual map
@@SolarCola Thanks
1:10 seconds before disaster
Very pleasant video
Nice. How do you get the steps on the elevated pedestrian paths?
It's an modded asset, if you search 'stairs' on the workshop you'll find it :)
Amazing line. What assets did you use for platforms?
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1717891496, this one is the platform, but with some extra props.
Shelter - steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=926850810
Timetable - steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=536876187
Display - steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=536877340
Benches - Campus DLC
What software did you use to make the announcer's voice?
God this is impressive, unlike the light rail system
this looks incredible, but I think the forst part of the video has just a few too many stops
What voice did you used for the announcements ?
It's been a while, I can't quite remember what website I used for this, sorry
It's amazing!
Hey - awesome video! You have a new subscriber! Do you, per chance, have the save game you could upload to the workshop? I'd love to be able to have a good explore through your creation.
I can, but you wouldn't be able to open it :( There are some custom roads that I can't upload to the workshop for to copyright reasons, and the game crashes without it. Sorry!
Piece of art
Beautiful town. I’d live there if it was real, but I couldn’t imagine the cost of living or the taxes! 😝
It probably would be unaffordable, with all these expensive bridges and rail lines
@@SolarCola very true
very relaxing it is.
Did you record those announcements yourself or did you use a text to speech program?
I used a text to speech program. My English accent wouldn't sound as crisp sadly.
how was the map made? as in the rail map at the start
How did you make the metro map?
How did you replace the vanilla train tracks with the LRT tracks at the central station?
Use RON
How is it even possible to build a city like that? And: which assets did you use for the tram? (Tracks, platforms, trains)?
Time, dedication and 64 GB of RAM haha.
I used the Berlin Flexity for the tram, and Clus's LRT for the tracks and platform. The props on the platforms vary, I don't know from the top of my head..
@@SolarCola cheers for the quick response. I thought so about the RAM. Could be difficult with my 8 gb haha
If you build mostly vanilla, 8 gB can do a lot. But installing assets requires a lot.
Just awesome!
Nice rail
Wow that's is incredible
where is port William lol? Falkland island or New Zealand... confiusing...
The city is roughly based on New England, USA, but only very roughly
How did you rotate the cam 90 degrees at 2:48? The FP vehicle mod I have only let's me offset the XYZ position but not rotation.
The mod I use allows you to rotate by pressing space (or tab, I forgot), it's super glitch tho and bounces around a lot. It only works when the vehicle moves in a straight line. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=650805785
How did you get the light rail and so much space I play on PS4
You have to be on PC for that, sadly. You need the steam workshop and it isn't available on console :(
Is there a download for this? It looks incredible and I really want to try it out!
I used a modified custom asset that I can't publish because of copyright sadly, and without it C:S just doesn't want to open the save file. Sorry :(
How did you make that subway map that appears at the beginning?
I used the CSL map view mod to export a map of the city, then I drew a sketch of the subways, and then I made a final version using Adobe Illustrator (Inkscape would be the free alternative)
17:39 germans know this ad campaign too damn well.. :D
Bravo!
How many mods do you think are installed here?
Mods? 27, give or take. Assets? Somewhere between 400 and 600, I think.
I have a question. Is there an asset that allows you to see your routes in first person?
Not an asset, but a mod, I believe it's simply called the first person mod. You can then view the world from the perspective of any person or vehicle.
@@SolarCola Thank you so much for the quick reply!😀
1:08 ¡CUIDADOOO!
1:10 to be continued

1:40 dude has got balls
Is this with the 80 tile mod?
Yes!
¡Wow!
Imagine building such a system in Simcity 5
(I just said imagine)
I think I could just about fit the central park in those tiny plots haha
Most realistic
