Dean, Your audio is good, crisp and clear. The hood makes you look like your beard has grown to great proportions. I’m looking forward to the video on the hoods creation. Hummingbird house was most attractive, especially with the Paduak top. Paduak is becoming one of my favorite woods.

Hummingbirds do not nest in houses or other cavities. They build nests on forks of tree branches, in the open air.

Audio clarity and volume are really good. That hood cut out pretty much all background noise from the lathe.

No problem with the sound, in fact, I wasn't wearing my hearing aids and I could hear loud and clear with just my headphones. I always wear headphones so I don't disturb the rest of the house. As always, you presented the instructions in a way that would encourage anyone to try this project. I'm rather new and I'm going to do it.

Audio is very good.humming bird houses awesome. My sister texted me this morning asking me to make a few of them. She is going to be disappointed to hear that the birds probably not going nest in them but I will make them just the same.

Hey Dean, Thank you for doing research and pointing out that hummingbirds will not actually live in one of those. Folks will argue that at the end of the year there is a nest left inside so it must be a hummingbird but in reality it is a wren if the hole is at least 1 and 1/8 inches. The only benefit to hummingbirds from these houses is if they are hung 8-10 feet above the ground a hummingbird "may" rest on the perch for a time before continuing on its way. You may wish to mention that to your friend so that the house can actually be beneficial to the hummingbird. Sorry but I'm a country boy with tons of "lost' knowledge about nature. Wish I knew half as much about wood turning as I do about nature. Anyhow you did an amazing job on that. I understand folks think they are really cute hanging around their yard. I just hope they hang them at least 8 feet high. Yall have a wonderful day :)

Nope -- save your wood for birds that actually nest in bird houses. Such as chickadees and house wrens. Have about 4" inner diameter and 1 1/8" hole opening.
Hummingbirds cannot walk or climb with their feet; and therefore, cannot physically use these houses. They nest in crotches of small limbs with a stretchy, spiderweb-based nest.

Another fine project. It really doesn't matter if a turning is useful as long as the person it was turned for is pleased and the project turned out to be the quality the turner would put his name or mark on. The sound is excellent.

The hood adds a resonance factor and also concentrates your voice, so you don't have to speak as loudly as before. Another benefit is the hood also cancels a lot, but not all, of the turning sounds. As a former video and sound editor, I find this to be a great combination of enhancing the voice over while minimizing the background noise. Oh, and I love your videos. Such good explanations on why you do what you do.
