- 2004 HARLEY DAVIDSON ULTRA CLASSIC ELECTRA GLIDE- How to repair - Stator Wire Grommet Leaking Oil
I noticed an oil leak when I was getting the ultra classic out of storage and ready for the riding season. Upon further inspection I discover the grommet for the stator wire was allowing oil to seep out. Here is my fix for this and so far it has held up for a year

This repair alone got me to follow your channel. Thank you!
Hope it works for you. 👍
THANK YOU! I finally decided to find where the oil was coming from, but I wasn’t sure where to start. I found your video and it lead me right to the problem. I cleaned it all and applied the gasket sealer. A day later, no leaks. Thanks for putting this out there.
glad it was helpful
Hey thank you for this video. I was a bit worried when I first discovered the leak. I followed what you did about a month ago and it’s still dry after being ridden daily. Greatly appreciated man!
Good to hear. Glad it worked for you. Take care and stay safe.
No apologies needed on the video, you got your point across. Thank you for this it was a big help, especially the follow-up on the clamp. Ride safe.
Glad it helped! thanks for watching.
Very helpful! Beats spending $800 to have the stator replaced when the stator works perfectly, it's just that blankety-blank grommet. Your camera and sound work are good to go!
Thanks for the comment. Hope this was helpful for ya. I did this on my bike and it lasted over two years. Would probably have lasted longer but the stator gave out on my bike and had to be replaced. Hope you have the same luck I did. I mean on the leak not on the stator lol.
Carb cleaner expands rubber..
Doing mine tomorrow. Thanks for posting that. Just bought me some time.
Good luck!
Awesome! Exactly what I was searching for on the internet. Had the same idea but wanted to verify! Thank you again. Straight forward and to the point
no problem. hope it works for you as well as it did for me.
The video quality was fine. Showing the how to is more important. Nice fix.
thanks for the feedback
Hi friend i'm here again. Great sharing as always. Big like 👍🏻 Stay safe
thanks friend
I did this fix on my 2000 model WideGlide. It worked very well.
Good to hear.
Right on man 100% what I needed to know. Good camera work and sound also!
thanks I do what I can. lol. Hope it works for you.
You have done very easily and nicely, loved the video, nice sharing, stay safe dear friend
Thanks for visiting
@@TechnMoto You are welcome and should be connecting
Mike, good call on that leak. I'm not sure what year your Ultra is but I remember hearing something about our inner primary cover leaking, was a recall issue if memory serves. Of course our bikes are way outta warranty and HD won't honor such repairs. Found this out on my ABS recall. Thanks for sharing.👍
ya this is a 2004 so I would not hold my breath waiting for Harley to help me out lol. To let you know this repair actually held up for over a year until of course when the stator shit the bed.
Another great video! I am still trying to figure out where to go now that you sold the Harley.
lol Sorry bud.
Good video. I have tried of couple things and have had success. But end up leaking again. It is just time to go in deep!
Sometimes you have to dive in 😆
Nice fixing buddy..!!
thanks for dropping in
Totally helpful. My 2000 road king did the same thing. Ty
hope it works for you as well as it did for me. god bless and ride safe
Good sharing sir.thats good because you know how to fixe it.
Thanks for watching friend
Thanks for sharing, have the same issue and glad to see this, looks easy to do.
Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
You’ve done really well buddy 😃👍
Thanks really worked out great
good for ever. haha I would not worry about replacing the stater unless it starts leaking again but I don't think it will for some time.
the dam thing held up for over a year, then the stator shit the bed. videos to come in winter time lol
Thanks for the video! My 07 FXD has a leak on the stator plug. After watching this, I purchased Permatex Ultra Black. I hope it will work.
Follow exactly what I did. Good luck
@@TechnMotoYesterday, I did exactly as you did. This morning the leak stopped. Thanks a lot!!
Awesome ! 👏
You did a great job thanks gonna try this on 08 roadie
Good luck. Mine held for two years until the stator quit working.
Have a nice day
Watch your video content Very good and very good,
Thank you for sharing
Thank you too
Excellent
Thanks
Thanks for the video. I’ve heard rtv but never heard of using carb cleaner. I would of thought that would dry the rubber out and make it more brittle over time. I just noticed an oily/dirty mess around my stator grommet on my 2000 ultra classic. Haven’t noticed any leaks on the ground. Guess I’ll give this a shot to hopefully get me through the rest of this season at least. My question is should there even be oil in there by the stator? Or is this an indication or a primary leak or something?
The carb cleaner will swell the rubber which helps to seal that area. The oil is from the primary. When the bike is running it splashes the oil in every direction which is why it leaks pass the grommet when it is worn. Any how try what I did. I think it will work well for you. Take care and ride safe 👍
Good fix Bud 👍🏼💯
Been holding up for over a year now
@@TechnMoto nice 👍🏼
Thanks Buddy helped me a lot
yo Taz you welcome. if you followed what I did it should hold for a long time. Take care and god bless
Will the carb cleaner cause thr rubber break down faster?
It makes it swell. When I did this it lasted for two years until the stator burnt out at 60k. The deal is if it’s leaking then you either replace it or do a temporary repair which might get you another two years or more. A lot easier and cheaper than replacing a stator and opening the primary case.
Hell Yea , Your awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks!
nice job
thanks
Very interesting video, like !!!!!!!!
Thanks for the visit
That's what I was thinking when I was told 800 to replace the stator..
Hope it works for you. take care
How long should I leave it sitting. I read on the gasket maker I used, 24 hours, I placed the stator back on with a few spots lightly to help seal the gasket. It's not terrible, but I need it to seal better cuz it leaks right at the bottom. I don't want to take it off again cuz I'm
Afraid of damaging the gasket entirely
Not sure. I have a rubber grommet. The carb cleaner makes the rubber expand and cleans area. Then I applied the black rtv and let it dry for a day or two. If that don’t work then it maybe at the point of needing to be replaced.
@@TechnMoto ah yeah maybe I should've been patient, I really been itchin to ride after I had to replace the sensor for the crank shaft. The bike would not start whatsoever until I replaced it. But I had to remove the ignition cover to get to it, but I guess this weekend I'll pull it off once more and let it sit over the weekend to see if it'll set properly. I may have waited 30 minutes after reapplying the gasket with the high temp max torque permatex gasket maker. Seems good but maybe I need the specific oil resistant type
it is very hard to record repairs by your self. I know as I have tried and just deleted the video after watching it haha need a good cameraman some times haha Take Care
ya folks just don't realize how difficult it is to do by yourself. Makes the job much more difficult.
ive been try twice maybe more..same like your video.. but always fail and still leaking, i use locktite rtv but still leaking..anybody can tell me what sillicone do i use...thank you
did you clean the area well? I used carburetor cleaner, almost the entire can. get it into the rubber inside the housing because that will make it swell. Then apply the RTV. Has to be cleaned really good. can't have any oil. good luck. go to the description ( have links) and use the stuff I used.
yup sir..i clean first with radiator cleaner, all same like your video, or maybe in my country the weather is tropic and the engine sometimes very hot...what do you think sir? is i right sir🙏🙏🙏🙏
@@royroyan8588 maybe time to replace the plug
