  • Liu Ling Ying grew up in Kolkata, immersed in both Indian and Chinese cultures. The 75-year-old beautician's father was one of thousands of Chinese emigres to the west Indian port city in the mid 20th century. But times are changing -- and so is her family.

Wonderful story! When first arriving in Switzerland, I saw a group of very cheerful people on a decorated truck, dancing while handing out flowers as it slowly moved along the street. Later I found out, it's Indian culture, probably the Krishna tribe.
Taiwan is one of the friendliest countries that welcomes a positive diverse cultures, from dozens of aboriginal to Chinese, Japanese and Western cultures. I'm sure Indian culture will be an important part of Taiwan 🕉🙏Namaste

Despite the geopolitical tensions since the late 20th century, Chinese and Indians have been trading for more than 2000 years, and have much more in common in terms of culture (Buddhism/ vedic philosophy), industrious nature, self-preservation attitude, family-oriented spirit etc etc.
Since the late 1990s, China started to rapidly industrialize, grow wealthy and now looks ever more modern and powerful than ever. India is far behind and will be, thanks to the multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious and multi-caste divisions amongst the people.

For your knowledge, it's one of the oldest cities in india that developed before British rule. Redevelopment is a hugh issue in kolkata as small land owns by many people. Those land owners may not agree all at once for development. If a person made a case against govt it could halt redevelopment work for a long time.
