The original Kentucky Fried Chicken is in Corbin, Kentucky. Colonel Sanders ran a restaurant and motel there. He didn't start franchising his secret recipe chicken until he was in his 60s!
Lol! I had a full stop when I heard Lia say “the American version of KFC” too! 😱 But then again, the Colonel is a global bucket of greasy goodness now, isn’t he?
We grew up with "Kentucky Fried Chicken" and the "Colonel". I'll bet many folks outside the US have no clue that they changed their name to KFC to remove the regionality from the franchise.
That's not what she meant though, not literally. She meant KFC is like the top chicken place in the UK so she meant that it's the US equivalent to that.
Jelly = jelled fruit juice Jam = jelled mashed fruit Preserves = jelled chunky fruit The jell or gel is from cooking the pectin that's naturally in the fruit. Some fruits have more pectin than others so sometimes pectin is added to make the final product more firm.
It's all about the red beans and rice with a biscuit when at Popeyes;. And Jelly is different than jam. We have jam in America too but most fast food places will give you jelly.
I sometimes go to Popeye's and just order a large red beans and rice and a couple biscuits. Then I break up a biscuit into small pieces and put it in my red beans and rice to make a heartier meal and it doesn't take away from the taste of the red beans and rice.
I can't stand watching their videos anymore that all they do is bitch about the US and everything they do here everything they eat here why don't they just stay on to hell the lot cheaper Also quit calling it a chicken Burger that's 2 different things it's a chicken sandwich and a Burger is a Burger! I knew the hill eats shrimp at a chicken place you don't eat shrimp at a chicken place just like you don't eat burgers at a seafood place,!! come on! It's so many of your videos and you guys pick the worst thing! Like the snack video I never even heard a 1/2 of those and everything at papa's is not that great just a few things like everywhere Let's talk about British food most of it sucks but if you don't like our food, like I said eat yours!! Do videos From another country cause all you do is put us down!
At this point Ive seen a real trend with them of going into restaurants and then completely bypassing the staple items that the restaurant is best known for. Because who in the hell goes to a Southern BBQ joint and gets Turkey instead of pulled pork! (unless you have dietary/ religious restrictions). Also who gets sweet tea and then acts surprised it is sweet....
@@leojones7266 Why would I even think they have grape or strawberry jelly when they don’t serve breakfast? When you order, they ask if you want hot sauce or honey, they never mention jelly
@@TheDougSpot I don't know what to say about your situation, but popeyes has always has grape jelly and strawberry. You answered your own question why serve honey with chicken 🤔,it not breakfast .Or do you equate the biscuits for breakfast
@@leojones7266 Honey goes great on chicken as well as biscuits, I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Jelly only goes well with breakfast foods in my opinion, unless it’s a pb&j sandwich
@@mrbear1302 They do of course, but the signature Popeye's dish is whole pieces of spicy fried chicken, although non-spicy is available. Why go somewhere at all though if you aren't even going to try what they are famous for? This is a pattern. And if you want larger shrimp, those are called "butterfly shrimp", not "popcorn shrimp". They are available at most Popeyes. Get some advice before ordering. I must say though, if one doesn't like fried food, the South isn't the ideal place for you. The sweet iced tea is super-saturated with cane sugar - mixed in while the tea is hot. Before everybody started trying to eat healthy, this was just called TEA in the South. No hot or unsweetened. Sometimes flavored with mint. The original energy drink. But not everyone's ah... cup of tea. By the way, KFC is a pale shadow of what it used to be before the franchise was acquired by a large conglomerate, back in the early 70s if I remember correctly. Afterwards Sanders was heard to say that the new gravy tasted like library paste and the chicken like cardboard.
They tend to always order the wrong items, and then give bad reviews about each place. They don't seem to do their homework before visiting places or atleast ask their followers for suggestions. Or at the very least tell the cashier it's your first time and ask for reccomendations on what's popular. Popeye's is not know for their chicken tenders... in fact they are not good at all. Not enough chicken, and too much breading. That's why no one ever raves about their chicken tenders. Its whole pieces of chicken that they sell the most of.
Jelly is different from jam because it's made with only the juice of the fruit, not the pulp. Other than pouring it through a sieve partway through it's basically the same process. Biscuits are like scones without egg in them. The egg in scones makes them dense and solid, without it a biscuit is much lighter and flakier.
@@tomhalla426 But outside the South they normally serve it with out sugar or with sugar packs on the side to add in. Southern sweet tea actually has the sugar boiled into it.
Popeyes is in London now. It opened a few months ago. And from the videos I’ve seen, it’s a hit. People standing in line for 1-2 hours just to try it. Also, please don’t compare Popeyes to KFC, there’s no comparison. Popeyes RULES!
Long wait is mainly because there is still only one outlet (+ a delivery kitchen). Was the same when there was only one Wendy's open in the UK but that has gone now there are a few around.
@@Desert_Dreamin024 I’ve had Bojangles and Popeyes is still my favorite….probably because that’s what I grew up on. We didn’t have a KFC, Bojangles or Church’s near my home town..only Popeyes
Jam and preserves are made by cooking down whole fruit with sugar and then preserving it with heat or by sealing out the air. Jelly is made with juice to which pectin and sugar are added and then it's got to be canned (jarred) using a water bath or pressure canner. They both contain huge amounts of sugar so it's hard to say which is 'healthier' but it's generally thought that since what we Americans call jam or preserves still has the whole fruit in it is has a better nutritional value. The caveat is if it's home made verses store bought. Home made is always going to taste better and most likely will be healthier.
My guess what Lia finds as spicy is often not considered spicy in the US. My guess is there is a lot of great food she just won't like because it has what herbs of varying types but she would consider "spicy." all the Mexican food in the California, Arizona, All the good food in New Orleans. Maybe not all but I just think what Americans considered bland and unseasoned Lia might be more Lia's style.
@Spring Is Coming 🇺🇸 Do you live in the Midwest because I moved here and I find the food very bland and barely edible? I miss the Cajun Creole cooking.
I’m from Arizona where we drink unsweetened ice tea or “sun tea”. I moved to the South a few years years ago and I still cannot drink the sweet tea here. It is so sweet. Please know this is primarily a southern beverage. If you were in Los Angeles it would be very hard to find sweet tea. I have met people here in Mississippi who have never heard of someone drinking tea without sugar in it. They did not know it was something people do. I’m still baffled by all of this. Sweet tea is also given to little kids like it’s water. I saw a young mom put it in a baby bottle for her toddler. By the age of 4 all of his teeth were rotten (not all moms do this just to clarify). Southerners are not kidding when they say they were raised on sweet tea.
We have jelly, jam and preserves. Jelly is made from the juice of the fruit, preserves you’ll find a lot of fruit bits in it and jam is somewhere in-between. I’m with you guys though I love strawberry and will always make my pb&j with strawberry preserves and Peter Pan honey roasted peanut butter 😍
I cant stand anything that is made with imitation grape flavor. I have never liked it even as a kid, but my mother would only buy grape jelly. Growing up I actually thought the only Jelly ever made was grape. I was so shocked when my aunt took me to IHOP and they had all kinds of Jelly. My favorite is cherry jam/preserves but I like strawberry as well.
Read and compare the ingredients for Jelly, Jam and preserves and you'll find that there's actually nothing different about them at all. They are labeled with different names as a marketing gimmick to appeal to the budget minded and discriminating tastes of the consumer. For example: "Jelly" is the least expensive and you'll find it in large containers, "Jam" is a little bit more pricey but sold in midsized containers, and Preserves are priced the highest and are available usually in small jars.
In the USA- Jelly is made from fruit juice. Jam from fruit puree. Preserves from whole fruit. Marmalade from fruit plus the rind. So you could have strawberry jelly made from strawberry juice, strawberry jam made from strawberry puree, strawberry preserves made from whole strawberries but not strawberry marmalade because strawberries do not have a rind or peel.
There is also various types of marmalade, and although I think it is different from what Joel and Lia are referring to, it may bridge the gap for them compared to anything else. I always find marmalade very hit or miss. Sometimes it is great and sometimes it really isn't and almost turns into a congealed half savory/half sweet spread. The only other thing I could think of to potentially suggest to them would be Apple butter, and only because of the consistency in the spread. I really haven't seen "apple butter" in a flavor other than apple, but I have seen different types of apple flavored butter as I live about 10 miles away from a local orchard that makes various types and flavors of apple pies, apple ciders, and apple butter from the different apples it grows locally in the orchard. It's a pity they didn't know you can ask for mild spice, since Louisiana flavors typically by default are spicy and not mild, but all the classic chicken offerings are offered in spicy or mild and every Popeye's I go to asks if you want spicy or mild. Edit: I would suggest they try and find a Cracker Barrel as it serves types of "comfort foods", and serves breakfast and lunch/dinner options. More than that though, they would likely love the separate general store section from the dining room section. They also serve decent biscuits and decent cornbread and have options of various jelly, jams, and syrups.
When you see an iced tea dispenser in a restaurant, try putting 50% iced tea and 50% lemonade (ACTUAL lemonade, not Sprite- most fountain dispensers have it) in the cup It’s wonderful! Americans often call this an “Arnold Palmer” since the famed golfer was fond of drinking these I would recommend using UNsweetened iced tea for this, if it’s offered- The lemonade provides enough sweetness already
The biscuits are the bomb... I am from New Orleans and not everything is spicy. They have a not spicy version of things but maybe that is just regular chicken and the sandwitch and not other things.
I love Popeye’s chicken the best, but I do prefer the regular because while I like the spicy, it’s just a bit too spicy for me. The fried batter is amazing though.
I ate at Popeyes often when I worked in the LA basin. I always ordered a chicken breast with two biscuits. One day they gave me three biscuits when I ordered two. When I asked why they gave me three, they said their cook made a mistake making them larger than normal, so they had to get rid of them quickly so new customers wouldn't be expecting that size biscuit all the time.
Also from New Orleans! I’m interested to see how they would like the food/daiquiris. If Lia thinks Popeye’s mashed potatoes are too spicy, she’d definitely have a tough time down there lol. Joel would probably love it.
It's not that jelly is 'American' for jam, lol. Jelly is jelly and jam is called jam. Jam has a bit of fruit pulp while jelly is made from only fruit juice. McDonald's has strawberry I think. I love the gravy at Popeyes because of the spices! Yes, Louisiana cuisine isn't really going to be Lia's favorite. They love herbs & spices and spicy hot food.
Pah-tay-toes. Typical Brit speak. I get exhausted listening to some Brits speak. Seems like it takes some much effort to pronounce typical words! Ev-ahh, ! Lol!
Jelly- from juice, jam- mashed fruit, preserves- chunkier with larger bits or even whole fruit, Butters- pureed fruit (ie Apple butter or pumpkin butter).
@@rbfoster it rubs me the wrong way when Brits/Europeans call any sandwich a burger. A Burger is Beef or Veggie Burger in the US. Anything else is a sandwich.
@@marshsundeen You can order a chicken burger or turkey burger at almost any diner across the US. It will consist of ground (minced) meat, shaped like a burger and served on a bun (or any bread of your choice). Ground meat defines a burger (on any bread of your choice). Not ground? - it's a sandwich, regardless of the bread.
On a note, the drink dispensers one of the dispensers has a small switch to dispense water only. Also individual mashed potatoes always comes with gravy. Large sides of mashed potatoes comes with gravy on the side in a separate container. You can order any of the sides as extra so go for the mashed potatoes and the mac & cheese together, or add any of the other sides just to try them all.
If I were going to recommend a place to eat, Popeye’s would be one of the last places on the list. Never order popcorn shrimp. If you want shrimp, go to a seafood restaurant and order the biggest shrimp on the menu. If you go to Cracker Barrel, ask for blackberry jam. When you ask for biscuits, they bring jellies and jams to the table, but typically, one must ask for blackberry ham. BTW, at Cracker Barrel you can request both biscuits and cornbread. Breakfast is served any time of the day.
All of those self serve machines have filtered water. It is usally a little black tab next to the ice lever or one of the other drinks. And usually a (too small) label that says water. You have to press it to "clear the line" of soda that it's normally mixed with, until it runs clear, and there is your clean, filtered water. This was a learning curve for ALL of us when these machines came out, but since all are piped with water to make soda, they also all have a 'water only option"! This applies to all fast food places, movies, or other places that have these self serve machines. They pretty much have to offer regular water as an option because many people only drink it, or need it for baby formula mix, or any number of reasons. Water is always an option, even if you have to look for the tiny lever or dig through the silly digital screen, it's always there.
2:56 the American equivalent of KFC!?!?!?!?? KFC (short for *Kentucky* Fried Chicken) is as American as apple pie, and so is Popeyes. Well, if you all ever go back, if you order the FRIED CHICKEN Lia, you have a choice of spicy or mild. The mild might still be too spicy for you, but you should try it. Also, try the red beans and rice, it is very, very good. I often skip the chicken all together and just have red beans and rice. When you go to Louisiana, there will be plenty of restaurants there that don't serve Cajun or Creole style food. You can get plain old hamburgers and pizzas, or a nice steak.
When that chicken sandwich came out a couple years ago. It was a huge deal, everyone was talking about it. So I went to try one. It was a HUGE line. I waited for 45 minutes in the store.
There were people getting in fights over spicy chicken sandwiches not only at Popeyes but also at Checkers and Chic Fil-A. In fact they showed two guys wrestling on camera on the floor in the drive up area on the news over the last sandwich. The spicy chicken sandwiches got to be so popular that customers would get upset when they ran out.
Where I grew up Popeyes wasn’t exactly a competition to KFC, but rather an ethnic fast food place. You went to Popeyes for Cajun chicken and red beans and rice, you go to KFC for perfectly fried chicken like an old time Sunday dinner, and you went to Church’s to be disappointed. 😂
I beg your pardon! I don’t think you know much about really great fried chicken. And Churches has the best biscuits especially when they’re fresh. Popeyes crispy chicken is how chicken should be fried . The original KFC chicken isn’t crispy. It’s tasty but not originally crispy as fried chicken is suppose to be.You have to ask for crispy chicken at KFC. And some of you have to use tact when you make ethnic references because Joel and Lia do have black fans in America. And sometimes some of you can be very offensive. Be kind!
@@Kim-427 I ate at all three in only one city. It may be that my observations only apply to the stores located in that city, but to that extent I stand by what I wrote above.
@@marydavis5234 I just figured that out in a recent video. They got a burger on bread (maybe it was a patty melt), and Lia said “why do they call it a burger, when it’s just on regular bread?” And then the light bulb clicked on for me. For them, a sandwich is on bread, a burger is on a bun. Bizarre!!!
Yeah... It's totally bizarre to me when I hear Europeans say "chicken burger" instead of "chicken sandwich"... There IS such a thing as a chicken burger, but ONLY if it's made of ground chicken. Popeye's chicken sandwiches are made with a hunk of real chicken breast, so definitely NOT a burger. Type of bread is irrelevant.
@@joecalabria3472 agreed, but not to them! I have a Canadian friend who says “chicken burger” too. I didn’t have any idea they made the distinction based on the bread!
On soda fountains, there is usually a water option. At 1:22, you can see between the Sierra Mist and the Tropicana Lemonade a white tab. If you push that down, you will get water.
Can't believe you guys are in Florida and haven't seen you try alligator yet! When else will you ever have the opportunity?! It's SO good!! You really ought to. 😍
Alligator pretty much just tastes like chicken. That said, I wouldn't expect someone from another country to even consider trying that. They probably don't even know it's a thing, much less be interested when they find out. It's easy to say they should try this or that as people that live here because we already know the culture.
4:02 Haha I was screaming at my iPhone the entire time “mashed potatoes and gravy is totally normal in American culture and the mashed potatoes from Popeyes come standard with gravy”😂😂😂. It was cute seeing this unfold.
You'll definitely not get nice jams/preserves at a Popeyes. Their fried chicken and biscuits however are what I grew up on and totally love it. Popeyes biscuits are also good with honey and butter.
Did Lia not see the water tab on the soft drink machine? It's the little grey tab right beside the regular soda spout. Also, Popeye's is KNOWN for its spicy chicken!
Ok y'all, I'll explain jelly to you and I think you'll understand. Jelly is like fruit flavored aspic. Our Smuckers jam and or preserves are quite nice. Yes they come in flavors of strawberry, blackberry, apricot, raspberry, and many other fruits . But you usually find these at the grocery store. That grape jelly is inexpensive, that's why it's at fast food restaurants. Oh and the iced tea, when in the South, always, always get half sweet, half UNsweet mix. Especially if you aren't from the South. Because I'll tell you, in this vid, you unknowingly had southern sweet tea. It's not the same as sweet tea in the North. And up in the North, you'll have to ask for sweeten iced tea, or you are just as likely to recieve unsweetened iced tea or a cup of hot tea. Iced tea is really a southern thing. Back in the old days, ice tea was served to hide the fact that people were actually drinking bourbon. Back in prohibition times. Also, ask for Southern chicken and it won't be the spicy stuff they're known for. I hope this helps.
Couldn’t believe Lia got the two worst things on the menu and no one even tried their fried chicken, the Cajun rice, or their beans and rice. The spicy sandwich is great, but obv too much for her - but the bland version of the fried chicken would probably have been fine for her. It will take time to figure it out, but jelly jam preserves.

Hi Lia, at 01:42...the water dispenser is the little white tab/lever just below the Tropicana Lemonade dispenser. If you push that little white lever, filtered water comes out. Most Americans don't know it's there!
Jelly: Made with only the flesh and/or juice of the fruit Jam: Made with the flesh and the skins Preserves: Whole smashed fruits including the seeds. That's how Americans differentiate it.
The whole dipping the biscuits in the gravy is different. It’s like making it into some kind of dumpling lol. I usually get the butter and honey from the cashier. Takes so good.
FYI: That tiny little white lever on the soda machine gives you water. 1:43 if you pause it's right between the sierra mist and the tropicana lemonade. Push that down and it will pump water not soda. Many places will label it water but that button looks too small for a label. Tip: if you just ask for a "cup of water" it's usually free (and often smaller and different than the soda cups so they can know your cheating if you try to fill it with soda lol). Not that most people working care at all. Personally only ever get water now at fast food mostly cause it's cheaper and i dont' need to make my calorie intake any worse than it already is with eating fast food.
After watching this video and a few others when you talk about American jam not being very good...just wanted u guys to know we have 3 different types of "jellies" here in America. We have jelly which is clear. Made from the juice of the fruit and doesn't spread easily. This comes in grape, apple and red pepper. Then we have jam which is from the pulp of the fruit. We seem to have a lot of grape in jam and a few others. It's lovely and spreads really nice. Not as sweet as jelly. Then there is my absolute favorite PRESERVES. Preserves have the pulp of the fruit but also chunks of soft fruit in it as well. My favorite preserves are apricot for sure and then strawberry and blackberry. Anyway as with all things in the USA there are many choices and kinds.
Do you understand what she actually meant by that comment though? KFC is the top chicken fast food chain in the UK, so she was wondering if Popeye's was the US equivalent to that.
@@TwistedSisler Yes, I understood that. Do you understand that many British youtubers - and so presumably many Brits in general - seem to incorrectly assume that a lot of imported American brands are British in origin? Glad you went to the "interior" of Miami. I moved to Miami 14 years ago from Philadelphia where you visited as well! They have both but I think she just spotted the sweet tea and went for it. They apparently have never noticed the white tab to get water only out of a soda machine.
You two are funny trying things you don't have any experience with. A suggestion from me would be, bring someone with you from the area to help you pick out food items. And, that person could help answer your food questions in real time. Also, you might try getting a large number of different items to try. It seems you pick some things even many Americans don't like. For instance I love Popeye's fried chicken but I would never eat the shrimp. And I don't like the sweet tea either. You did not know, there is usually unsweetened tea available. Keep exploring and have fun.
Biscuit and jello, lol. I love how you call the biscuit “stunning”. I love you guys.i was just there in Miami. My daughter and I. That place is crazy! I like when you showed fas5 motion and how you used your camera.
Why was this tasting hilarious? When lia tried the mash potatoes and they were spicy 😂😂😂 And Joel insisiting lia keeps dipping her biscuit in the gravy 😂😂
Fyi, the little white tab you see hiding on the soda dispenser gives you water. In your video you can see it on the Tropicana lemonade dispenser, just to the left of the ice dispenser.
Ĺouisiana has 2 very distinctive cuisines, Cajun and Creole. They are a combination of French (Louisiana was owned by France), African and Caribbean (origins of slaves) and Southern cooking. It's distinctive and delicious but you're going to need to embrace some heat.
In America to qualify as a "burger" it has to contain ground meat (beef, chicken, pork or even fish, eq: salmon burger). If the meat is not ground, even when it is between two round shaped bread, it is called a sandwich.
Water is available where all the fountain soda is dispensed. The soft drinks you use the cup activated lever behind the spigot for the soft drink. On ONE of those fountain soda dispensers is typically a separate white lever (sometimes black w/ label) next to where it'd say Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Coke, Root Beer, etc...that may or may not be labelled WATER. If you press down on that lever, you'll get water from the dispenser without the fountain syrup added to the fluid being dispensed.
Totally get Lia's sensitivity to spice, but as I got more into my 30's I started adjusting and enjoy it now. Well another one to cross off the bucket list, lol. Thanks for the upload, see you soon.
Well, aren't we the demanding little princess, lol. Thinking they knew it was going to be a bit on the 🌶 side, and I think Lia handled it like the trooper she is. I guess it's different strokes for different folks. Cheers
...and they love it so much that on Christmas Day Japan makes a gift of KFC to itself. Too bad KFC is not an American company or maybe we would do the same thing
There is decent jam in America. Unlikely to find it in restaurants, sadly. I'm glad Lia liked the Popeyes biscuits. They are definitely the star of the show at Popeyes for me. So buttery and delicious. I'll also say that while I like their chicken tenders, they're very different from the average fast food tenders, and I can see how some people don't enjoy them.
FYI!!! The water is the little white tab behind the lemonade. It’s like that at all soda fountains in the US. it’s sometimes behind the tea if they don’t have lemonade.
I loved this, you guys are hilarious. Talking about the poor little shrimp 😄. Note to Lia: you can mix sweet tea with unsweet tea if it's too sweet (which it usually is, in my opinion). Restaurants in the South have both sweet and unsweet tea.
That popcorn shrimp looked pretty sad once you took the batter off. A lot of people eat chicken strips with ranch dressing. It's cool and creamy to balance the heat.
The farther from Louisiana one gets the generally less good are Popeye's restaurants. Edit: It is usually because the food is insufficiently spiced in other parts of the USA. I can't tell if the one in Miami is like that. Sweet tea is intended to be consumed with ice added. It cuts the sweetness, (no one here drinks it w/o ice because it's too sweet) You can get honey to go on the biscuits but you have to ask for it. Even the mild chicken at Popeye's is spicy compared to the USA average. Actually, you CAN do Louisiana - you just have to pay attention and not order spicy dishes. Ask your waiter. I also think the popcorn shrimp is too "fried".
Just a heads up. There is a small little white tab on the soda fountain machine that you can pull down and water will dispense. On that machine, it was located under the Tropicana lemonade. They do that so that people will get the sugary drinks and also because getting a cup of water is usually free versus ordering a soda for around $2 or $3.

The jell or gel is from cooking the pectin that's naturally in the fruit. Some fruits have more pectin than others so sometimes pectin is added to make the final product more firm.
Jelly is thickened fruit juice.
Jam is thickened mashed fruit.
Preserves are made with whole pieces of fruit.
Wrong
The mashed potatoes are ok, but the red beans and rice ... Next Level delicious! That is my favorite Popeyes side dish.
Biscuits and red beans and rice!
Same, but if the mashed potatoes were too spicy the the beans and rice would for sure be
It's all about the red beans and rice with a biscuit when at Popeyes;. And Jelly is different than jam. We have jam in America too but most fast food places will give you jelly.
Agreed
I sometimes go to Popeye's and just order a large red beans and rice and a couple biscuits. Then I break up a biscuit into small pieces and put it in my red beans and rice to make a heartier meal and it doesn't take away from the taste of the red beans and rice.

I scrolled to the comments just make sure this was mentioned. Ha
To Lia, water is spicy. Explaining an American biscuit to a Brit is impossible, it's a scone innit? NO! Jam has bits of fruit, jelly doesn't.

If you are doing Popeyes you definitely missed out not doing red beans &rice for a side
Absolutely, don't get their cajun fries because the other sides much better.
You should have gotten the red beans and rice which is the best thing at Popeye's
This American agrees that red beans and rice is the best side at Popeyes
At this point Ive seen a real trend with them of going into restaurants and then completely bypassing the staple items that the restaurant is best known for. So people don't order chicken tenders in a chicken restaurant?
@@paintedjaguar Sanders was right. Lee's Famous Recipe is the best I've had.
Joel & Lia: judging American jam by grape jelly packets in a fast food restaurant. 😆
Sweet tea is intended to be over ice, so it is rather too concentrated to drink without.
Yep.
Yes!!!!! Who drinks it at room temp...gross!!!
Yes and the flavor is not right when it's warm. It's meant to be drunk iced.
Outside the South, the normal name for that drink is Iced Tea, for good reason.
@@tomhalla426 But outside the South they normally serve it with out sugar or with sugar packs on the side to add in. Southern sweet tea actually has the sugar boiled into it.
FYI to get water … if u look at one of the soda selections there’s a tab next to the dispenser labeled water
Bojangles is better lol
Popeyes is sooooo good!! Never tried Bojangles but I've heard it's good!!

@@Desert_Dreamin024 I’ve had Bojangles and Popeyes is still my favorite….probably because that’s what I grew up on. We didn’t have a KFC, Bojangles or Church’s near my home town..only Popeyes
You have to do half unsweetened and half sweetened ice tea if it’s too sweet, that’s what I do.
Me too. At Southern restaurants is you ask the wait staff for a tea half and half they know what you mean.
Interesting, I'm more of a preserve/jam person, but when I was little I loved Apple jelly on hot buttered toast.
I love homemade jam and preserves especially blackberry and gooseberry!!!
Have you ever tried Black Currant with blackberry, it's incredibly delicious.

I agree because when I visited London I thought they food was super bland. If I ever go back I’m packing my Tony Chacheres
Don't forget about Texas.
Texmex > Californianmex
Where I live in the United States almost nothing is spicy. I agree with Lia spicy food sucks.
Do we get to have the whole jelly vs jam discussion again? Oooh, I'm so excited!
When you see an iced tea dispenser in a restaurant, try putting 50% iced tea and 50% lemonade (ACTUAL lemonade, not Sprite- most fountain dispensers have it) in the cup
It’s wonderful! Americans often call this an “Arnold Palmer” since the famed golfer was fond of drinking these
I would recommend using UNsweetened iced tea for this, if it’s offered- The lemonade provides enough sweetness already
Add vodka it's called a John Daly.
Or you can put half sweet tea and half unsweet tea. I agree that the all sweet version is too much.
Btw jelly and jam are 2 totally different things we have both here in the us. For us jelly is just more common since it doesn’t have fruit bits in it…
The biscuits are the bomb...
Yes-please don’t let the 2 things you ate at Popeye’s stop you from trying all the good food of Louisiana (nothing against Popeye’s)
@@themindfullone Daiquiris are yum! I think they would both get behind that.

“The American version of KFC” lmfao 💀
It's not that jelly is 'American' for jam, lol. Jelly is jelly and jam is called jam. Jam has a bit of fruit pulp while jelly is made from only fruit juice. McDonald's has strawberry I think. Yes, Popeye’s is all breading pretty much. People go crazy for the chicken sandwich that Joel had though. 🤷♀️
Chicken “burger”
@@rbfoster it rubs me the wrong way when Brits/Europeans call any sandwich a burger. A Burger is Beef or Veggie Burger in the US. Anything else is a sandwich.
@@marshsundeen You can order a chicken burger or turkey burger at almost any diner across the US. It will consist of ground (minced) meat, shaped like a burger and served on a bun (or any bread of your choice). Ground meat defines a burger (on any bread of your choice). Not ground? - it's a sandwich, regardless of the bread.
@@alexshkoditch4593 yes, I guess I left our turkey burgers. Brits and Europeans call non-ground meat sandwiches burgers also.
Even more American. Unlike apple pie, KFC was actually created / invented in America.
She didn't mean that literally. KFC is the top chicken fast food chain in the UK, so she was wondering if Popeye's was the US equivalent to that.
She got flavor for the first time in her life and called everything spicy lol
Food has a lot of flavor without spiciness
When that chicken sandwich came out a couple years ago. It was a huge deal, everyone was talking about it. So I went to try one. It was a HUGE line. I waited for 45 minutes in the store.
There were people getting in fights over spicy chicken sandwiches not only at Popeyes but also at Checkers and Chic Fil-A. In fact they showed two guys wrestling on camera on the floor in the drive up area on the news over the last sandwich. The spicy chicken sandwiches got to be so popular that customers would get upset when they ran out.

😂Yeah, here in Louisiana, we go a bit crazy with the spices. So if you are coming here, prepare for the heat and have a damn good time!
I’ll never understand no ice. And now I want Popeyes. The gravy is everything.
Be kind!

Jelly: Made with only the flesh and/or juice of the fruit
Jam: Made with the flesh and the skins
Preserves: Whole smashed fruits including the seeds.
That's how Americans differentiate it.
Normally when we eat biscuits and gravy, its with white gravy. But you go ahead and eat your biscuits with what ever gravy you like.
The whole dipping the biscuits in the gravy is different. It’s like making it into some kind of dumpling lol. I usually get the butter and honey from the cashier. Takes so good.
Love this! Im always interested to see other cultures and regions try new food! Even if its “fast food” I hope you both enjoy your trip!
I'm so glad you enjoyed some of the choices. I would have mixed sweet and unsweetened tea. They are also known for good rice and beans.

They have both but I think she just spotted the sweet tea and went for it. They apparently have never noticed the white tab to get water only out of a soda machine.
Popeyes spicy chicken sandwich is my favorite lol. Also love the time-lapse at the end, very cool. Love you guys!
😂😂😂
Fyi, the little white tab you see hiding on the soda dispenser gives you water. In your video you can see it on the Tropicana lemonade dispenser, just to the left of the ice dispenser.
Ĺouisiana has 2 very distinctive cuisines, Cajun and Creole. They are a combination of French (Louisiana was owned by France), African and Caribbean (origins of slaves) and Southern cooking. It's distinctive and delicious but you're going to need to embrace some heat.
Both amazing!
In America to qualify as a "burger" it has to contain ground meat (beef, chicken, pork or even fish, eq: salmon burger). If the meat is not ground, even when it is between two round shaped bread, it is called a sandwich.
You must add ice the southern style sweet tea.
I do half and half.
Cheers
1:41 white lever, left of Tropicana is usually water....They say Americans are impatient, Really!
3:45 Plenty of Ketchup! Notice the mocking tone?
Popeye's spicy fried chicken is the best!! Love the Cajun gravy too!! Glad you guys enjoyed it!!
they did not care for it but they did not order what they should have. I love the fried chicken too!!!
Spicy sucks
Glad Lia understood that kfc is actually a Japanese brand.
...and they love it so much that on Christmas Day Japan makes a gift of KFC to itself.
Homemade jams, jellies and preserves are much better than the store bought ones!! Those are loaded with high fructose corn syrup!!!
Popeyes also has "naked" tenders that have no batter (though I think they're still fried) and you can get them regular spicy or mild if you prefer.
I usually order half and half. Waiters Southern restaurants are used to hearing people say half and half. Or an Arnold Palmer which is half lemonade
In the US, all mashed potatoes come with gravy. And yes, fried shrimp will taste like it's fried 😂
That popcorn shrimp looked pretty sad once you took the batter off. A lot of people eat chicken strips with ranch dressing. It's cool and creamy to balance the heat.
I don't care for most non chicken things at Popeyes unless we're talking sides.
This was so hard to watch lol, Lia thought the plain chicken was too spicy and the biscuit was "Stunning" hahaha
The farther from Louisiana one gets the generally less good are Popeye's restaurants. Edit: It is usually because the food is insufficiently spiced in other parts of the USA. I can't tell if the one in Miami is like that.
Sweet tea is intended to be consumed with ice added. It cuts the sweetness, (no one here drinks it w/o ice because it's too sweet)
You can get honey to go on the biscuits but you have to ask for it.
I am a southern girl who despises sweet tea. I like a spoonful of sugar, not a bulldozer full.
Hate it
