Hey. I love you matter of fact and practical videos. Too often we try to emulate rock star's routines and it's yous great if you can maintain climbing and have fun.
Your commitment to your climbing, physical and mental well being is admirable and inspirational Rob...may you long continue to climb your favoured crags ...from a fellow septagenarian 👍👏💪
Great video. I’m 80 and still enjoy weights, but have given up climbing as I have a pacemaker and tricuspid clip. I don’t want to gave an “episode” halfway up a crag. Your points about intensity and recovery are absolutely on the button.
How do Rob👍. Christ I get injured getting out of bed at 53!😂. Mainly weights, walking an a bit of running these days. Still pull off the ground now then. Good effort mate and encourages me to keep going👍. All the best mate.
No need to go to failure for strength (more useful for hypertrophy). Generally heavier loads (low rep counts) useful for targeting strength with a rep or two in reserve. I would avoid going heavy for conditioning exercises (like the external dumbbell rotations you show) - easy to overdo it for smaller muscles, as you say, even for someone even younger than you! Thanks for the excellent behind the scenes.
The beauty of them is that they are so adjustable depending on foot position. Thanks for your comment. I have met Rab on numerous occasions since the 70s. A special guy. Ask him about the night in the Padarn just before us Lakes boys did the first ascent of Lubyanka on their patch. Great days.

Thank you so much for sharing this! Great inspiration. I'd be happy if I could just climb at all in my 70's let alone climb E7 now in my late 30's!
Cheers Barney --- Set your target a little bit beyond what you think you're capable of -- and GET THERE
Thanks for a great routine, especially encouragement for the rings instead of pull ups. Sometimes you can get further by just backing off a bit!
Good Advice, From A Rock Legend. Thanks Rob..
Thanks for sharing this. It's always interesting to learn how others achieve success.
Thanks Pete ! Success is often achieved by trying other peoples ideas. And being a bit OBSESSIVE !!

Thank you Trevor ! Now I know I'm a septagenarian. French I presume !

Really appreciate your comment Bill. I am sure you will continue to push yourself, within the realms of safety, in whatever activity you choose.

About time you started up again Ed !!
If getting out of bed isn't working for you, you need to stop going to bed in the first place 😉. I bet Rob Matheson doesnt go to bed.
Nice! Sharing older brothers...
We need all the help we can get !!

Thanks Simon. As you know I an no training expert and always open to good advice. Thanks for the comment
Hi Rob. What sort of frequency do you carry out your routine? Really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
Thanks for reply Andy. Twice a week, but once if I was doing other types training and/or climbing. A 10 day week is no bad thing when you get older !
I like your diagonal row rings - I've been looking for an exercise like that. Incidentally, do you know Rab?
