    I’ve been thinking about MCT because of your reviews for some time now, but that breakdown of Language Arts cost via Timberdoodle PLUS the rewards you’re seeing in your kiddos AND how to make it easy to use… by golly, I’m sold!
    Love it: Mystery Science!!! Absolutely love. Still having so much trouble finding an additional secular curriculum to pair with it for upcoming 4th grade, but glad we have ONE THING that we’re happy with.
    Leave it: History Quest! Maybe. I can’t really find an alternative we love. Just not loving the stories other than the History Hops. Still on the fence and definitely thinking about at least trying the other levels if we can’t find a replacement.

    Love it: Core Knowledge We use Geography & History, ELA and Science from them[we don't always do all the parts] and love it. We have loved everything we've used from CK this year. I've loved the LA Learning strands to teach not only reading but spelling. Kiddo has learned a lot.
    Leave it: Other than ELA and Math I don't want to use the same curricula all year. We like doing units where we can switch it up learning different things maybe we don't feel like learning about mammals right now lets do a unit on simple machines and come back to this later. I don't want to be trapped with the same reader for half the year.
    We're over Composer/Artist studies and have switched gears to diversify our music/art History studies.

      Yes! We love Core Knowledge! We dabbled in a few units last year for kindergarten and my goal this year was to really use it fully for first grade. It's been great! We love jumping around to different topics and not sticking with one thing for the whole year like some other curriculums have you do. My daughter has learned so much and made so many connections between seemingly unrelated topics.

    Hey… Thanks for the video! We used timberdooodle kits too and we love them… I feel kind of the same way about Discover science as you do so We just started sassafras science. Which is fun and will use it starting this week and through the summer, And see how it goes… I just ordered Mosdos for my third grader, and we love it so far… How do you think it would pair with Michael clay Thompson (we have the poodle level). And my daughter is wanting to get away from so many workbooks. She can’t stand language smarts and we are almost done with word roots. Do you think Mosdos and MCT would complement each other or would it be too much?

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
      @MakingEverydayMagic  6 месяцев назад

      I think they could pair well. I'm going to link the videos I have on both to give you an idea on how we have used the programs. I do have a new poodle vid coming next week.

    Thank you for this video!!! I'm curious, which 2 levels did you do in one year? And did you use and go through all the books in each level that year? Also, I too am a Timberdoodler, so if I did Poodle this year, could I not do Language Smarts, Daily 6 Trait Writing and Beginning Word Roots? Or would I still need all 3 of those with Poodle? Question for your upcoming Poodle video: Do you think Poodle is beneficial or easily skipped? Thank you again for all of your insight and help navigating this home school life!

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
      @MakingEverydayMagic  6 месяцев назад +1

      Island & Town levels.
      If you want to use Poodle, you could easily add it with those. In my experience with all of these products, I chose to not do another year with those and Mosdos and chose Island level for my oldest instead. You can skip the level easily. We used Poodle as a family read aloud long before my youngest was expected to do any activities in it.
      I also take the wild approach to not force writing early. We did the daily 6 and all the kit things....and it just wasn't for us.
      This video talks through my first 2 levels of MCT

      @@MakingEverydayMagic thank you, just watched this one too, I didn’t know this :) . I hadn’t heard of ‘faith neutral,’ so Bookshark is faith neutral but not secular? Secular means no Christian teaching? Interesting. We use Sonlight science, and I don’t see any faith or Christianity in any of the books used, but there are notes in the Instructor Guides though. I have looked at Bookshark’s 3 week samples and they use the same books, Usborne, but don’t have the Christian notes in the guides. I’d be genuinely really interested in learning more on this if you are happy to share. Always enjoy your videos and all your content,

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
      @MakingEverydayMagic  6 месяцев назад +2

      Faith neutral in science usually means that they aren't addressing creation, big bang, or evolution. Not necessarily that they are or aren't mentioning God. They just avoid teaching things that would be in contrast to Christian teachings.

      @jessicajones611 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@MakingEverydayMagic I see. Thanks so much for sharing this. I can see why faith neural isn’t that great an option, if it omits talking about the creation or anything that could be in opposition, missing great chunks of information. Is MCT mastery based or (as a first time homeschool family) am I able to start my to be 5th grader with the voyager level?

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
      @MakingEverydayMagic  6 месяцев назад +1

      Not mastery based. It goes through everything every year but with increasing complexity. I would evaluate the placement.
      If your learner:
      Still learning to read: Poodle
      Reading to learn: Island
      Good sentences but not paragraphs: Town
      Good paragraphs Not essays: Voyage
      I will be sharing our use of Voyage level next Wed so that might be helpful.

  • @ravenbird3014
    @ravenbird3014 6 месяцев назад +1

    Do you use any other LA’s with MCT Town level? I hear it is not strong in its writing assignments and punctuation.

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
      @MakingEverydayMagic  6 месяцев назад +1

      We did not. I feel like it's enough. I think we tend to want to do a ton based on our public school counterparts. The focus is on a well written sentence but there are writing assignments in the instructor manuals. Every chapter of Sentence Island has writing assignments. I will be back with Town level again next year. I will add a spelling (AAS) and that's it.

    • @MakingEverydayMagic
