    Great show guys ! Thank you !!
    Awesome back n forth discussion for the Angels future.
    From what I've read and seen, the players we didn't trade was because other teams really low balled us. I was really disappointed we didn't make more trades but if other teams tried to undervalue us then at least I understand.
    Almost 71, been an Angels fan since 1961.
    That being said, 1000% agree with the rebuild with our kids.
    Keep adding more kids !
    I absolutely don't want to go backwards and start over with another GM's ideas.
    This young rebuild will work if given a couple of seasons and with patience.
    9 years of losing and mediocre, enough is enough, unacceptable.
    To be honest, I do agree with Jared but alot of Nate's ideas were really good.
    It's a tough call with Perry's future but I am inclined to keep Perry and let the rebuild continue and get stronger for the future.
    I do know that our only hope to get back to being a winning ball club is with the kids.
    Our kids are our only hope and I hope Arte realizes this and doesn't do anything to ruin it, I just don't trust his judgement and ideas on our future.
    Take care, awesome show !!
    Go Angels !!!!

    In the last three years we have added, a young great catcher, first baseman, shortstop, second baseman and letting two young outfielders get games in. We are looking better and younger. I see the plan. Don’t hate. Ride or Die Angels!!

    Nate is right about Perry’s plan of relying on top draftees to fill the roster because the Angels can’t develop… why? Arte. How do the Angels MiLB coaching staff - in terms of salary and number of coaches? In terms of tech in minors? Compared to other teams? Perry is working within the limits set for him by Arte, Arte’s budget, and how deep the hole that Perry had to try to fix.
    It’s also obvious that part of Perry’s plan is getting the Angels to actually develop pitching and have been more successful than under previous GM. Not saying Angels pitching development is good, just saying that by eye test, it seems better than before.
    Eppler had a plan too. It relied on drafting high ceiling guys and filling in MLB roster with free agents. It dint work, but the FA money wasn’t spent wisely, with 1 or 2 bats getting the lump of the FA $ and filing in the holes with FA players on their last leg. But worse, Eppler’s plan didn’t deal with the reality that Arte didn’t want to spend $$ on scouting and developing players.
    Perry’s plan that has a mix of college players and prep players/international signings is an attempt to work within his budget, mitigate the risks, and d still field some sort of team.
    The lack of success of the MLB Angels under Perry through 2023 has to do with Arte’s MLB salary limits while relying on risky FAs to fill the roster, plus the fact that about of MLB salary was for 3-4 players.
    Nate’s claim that Perry doesn’t call up young players in September and keeps older guys is preposterous. Jordyn Adams and Paris were called up last fall when they weren’t ready. Adell has been called up on many occasions such that he has no options left. Bachman and Joyce were up last year. O’Hoppe was called up as soon as Trash Pandas were out of the playoffs in 2022.
    While you acknowledged that there were reasons why Anderson, Ward and Rengifo (because of injury) may not have garnered the offers that Angels had hoped, do you guys think the team should have traded them for peanuts? Like Jared said, if Perry traded those guys for peanuts, you guys will still be complaining.
    Maddon had to be fired either way Arte’s consent and it was the right decision. Guess who still doesn’t have a job? Maddon. He may be smart but I think execs have found him to be difficult to work with.
    I wouldn’t judge Perry for what he couldn’t accomplish in the last three years. He was working out of a home with a straight jacket.
    Begin to judge Perry on how he builds a ball club that can compete in 2 years. I don’t want to see a new GM for now because I want to see where Perry’s plan goes. Relying on top draftees to fill the MLB roster takes time (and I acknowledge it would have been faster if Ohtani was traded last year). A new GM now means a new plan starting at point A, but with the same constraints imposed by Arte.

    I think plan was to see what they have this year. Rotation and outfield especially. See who takes next step and who doesn’t. Injuries and regression happened instead. Perry draft been decent and trades have benefitted but free agents have been terrible.

    I like Perry but not as a gm I think he would make a perfect director of scouting. As a GM he seems to have multiple plans but none of them have worked out until this current one which is calling up college players.i think if arte wants to save face he hires a president of baseball operations with a record just overpay for him to bring in his guys. I am 100% behind that but if it’s another first time guy I’d just rather have Perry there isn’t going to be a massive difference

    Nate has a good analysis. We are not playing for this year or next year. This team has to lose its old formula and adopt the formula of developing and building around young, controllable talent. A lot of successful teams with payrolls under a 100 million who are killing it.
    The Gaurdians, Orioles, and Royals come to mind. Those GM's aren't on their way here.
    The debate and smoke I have around Perry is I dont know how much he is constrained by Artes choices.
    Since Perry said he made all his choices autonomously I am going to give him a D.
    Fire him if you promise me we are getting a Mike Elias or JJ piccolo type. The really smart ones who know how to build an organization from farm to table.
    Another unexperienced GM wont cut it. Another Eppler wont cut it.
    I dont think we have a lot of experienced GM:s who are out of a job and fit what the Angels need

      leadership attribute for a bottom 5 team in the entire MLB? Unless they sign Burnes and maybe trade or sign another starter on top of that, it's going to be another bad year.

    Since you guys would to know fans comments I give you mine who has been watching each Angels game and been talking with other podcasts what I think may happen. I been pretty much creating a future roster of the Angels and what could be since last year. I am not stats nerd, but try my best to know on info seeing what Angels been doing and what I think they should be doing create an onfield team. First with Perry. Is he staying? I believe so. Many saying all season he is leaving and am I like where is any evidence of that happening? If we assume that Arte is very hated owner to work with from info we always known throughout years. Who in their right minds would work and ruin their reputation to be GM for him? Only Ron has joined sunce he saw vision and some people assumed he was tricked or maybe how we going after Ohtani. Well Ohtani people debated if he shouls be resigned by mnay podcasts but everyone agreed if no contract there or ever given such high amount try atleast, he should been traded. We all believe Arte did that. Now what GM would want that stuck to them they failed trade Ohtani and fail to win with Mike Trout with mega contact? Also bot even including Rendon massive contract. That in my opinion, Perry has more years. Because he has this year shown with development of better and faster throwing relievers and moving players up to big leagues for noa that is working. For atleast that part. Now this is right now my future roster projection on how I see it and its scenarios. Also tell you how I came to these players as well at the end. 1:Nolan Schanuel at 1B,
    2: SS Zach Neto, 3: 3B Luis Rengifo, 4: C Logan Ohoppe, 5: LF Taylor Ward, 6: RF Jo Adell, 7: DH Matt Thaiss, 8: 2B Christian Moore, 9: CF Mickey Moniack. Now this is most stable lineup. If add Trout you just put him higher and bench Mickey or Adell depending who is better and the hitting. For now Mike Trout stays in CF until he says so. If DH Thaiss role will need be new position or Nolan depending on needs. This can make positioning complicated. Now lets go the bench spots. These spots are very important since more controllable players here and not older guys is good sign so lets see who is here. Assuming Trout bats fourth in linup above and move everyone one spot down the bench will be. Mickey Moniack and Michael Stefanic. With 2 bench spots up for grabs. However where is Anthony Rendon. Well if his contract is released before season starts helps out the roster. If he stays he takes a bench spot for someone and makes playing time again more compicated with player not playing and that position affected may be tied to outfield or 3rd base. But what happens if Trout and Rendon are injured? Well you get temporary bench roles open unless they both get injured for whole season then may change outcome who is in those 2 extra bench roles for that season only. Now lets go to relief. Why not starters next? Well there is issue there clearly and relief seems more stable for that reason. Relief P1: Jose Marte, RP2: Guillo Zuniga,RP3: Roansy Contreras,RP4:Jose Quijada, RP5: Sam Bachman/Kenny Rosenberg RP6:Reid Detmers, RP7: Robert Stephenson/Victor Mederos, RP8: Ben Joyce. Marte era has improved drastically and is at 2.55 ERA. Then Zuniga throws real fast and was traded to Angels but never played much due to injury and players blocking him. After Roansy has had impressive outings in tough innings keeping them close as cleanup relief. Next Jose Quijada gets on relif but needs more pitches than fast ball, hope they work with him to give him more pitches in my opinion. Kenny/Bachman why? Well Bachman I think can be good relief guy and has been injured while so Kenny is there as well if not ready. If Robert is back he gets a spot clearly but if not Victor takes his spot simce Angels have called him up a lot to pitch and last time he was up was better than first joined tbe league, he also fits what Perry wants since he throws very fast but honestly any minor league pitcher can take his spot. Just going off of most called up pitcher for back up for Robert still injured. This doesn't include if Cisnero, Adam, or Hunter resign. Now for starters who would that be? I see so far these players. SP1:Jose Soriano. SP2: Tyler Anderson. SP3: Chase Silseth. SP4: Griffen Canning. SP5Carson Fulmer/Davis Daniel. The starting Pitching for Angels is clearly very not stable. Since none of these guys pitched much didn't prove who should be here or even in Relief role like Kenny since Davis and Kenny are inter changable again. Carson Fulmer has proved himself to be in relief atleast but starting no clue. While Griffen can be good or bad at times. Silseth injury worries to develop. Also even Soriano two tommy johns worries. Now that isn't good at all. What I can see is Perry maybe getting cheap staring pitching as depth. But rather be just depth. They honestly lacking the ability there to get anyone starting roles there, and we need to buy starting pitching which we have not seen in modern Arte time. The Angels starting pitching may come form relief roles too but they need those guys like Bachman not get injured and get proper development. So my idea is that they need to be protential starters in relief roles in majors and then convert them to starter roles if needed and when they trade those starter contracts if they get any, but that is just my idea of course and what form I seen from Soriano. Also, I would start that with Jose Marte in my opinion since he fits that role especially with his improvements. This doesn't include other pitchers like Patrick Sandoval and Andrew Wantz injured and ned to be up of healed. So toaugh decisions there. There are weak spot is outfield with hitting and some type of athletic defense since as you see Ward is bag of not hustle but not as bad as Adell or Mickey to lose a spot. While also being older than them. So Luis, Griffen, and Ward cpukd be traded of other guys in off-season so we weill just see since helps see what future they want and ideas. If no contracts signed as well, we could see Rockies where Arte doesn't want to pay anymore. So hope they lock up guys with exstensions or trade them at end of the year. No clue with Arte. Remember also Nelson Rada and Caden Dana could get called up as well. If not Kyren Paris and Jordyn Adams get called up. Maybe being their final chances but again blocked by Adell and Mickey. So one there may need be traded or all if there not the future you see. Chad Wallach or Juan Flores take a bench spots for backup catcher if they resign Chad or want Juan Flores good framing with young guys. Finally, is the ball changed this year for less home runs or is pitchers getting better with new pitch like Splitter or Splinker mo has seen nuch until now to catchup? If not the Angels pitching again is effected by a ball and maybe get more home runs while also having worser with all pitchers or certain guys not like Soriano or Silseth stuff,speed, and good pitch locations. A much bigger thing than most may think if is true ball is truley effected. That means development in pitching could be seriously mestup for our guys so Thaiss can focus on hitting and not to not worry about him injured if he can not catch. So we just have to see. Same for defense as well, with harder hit balls. Now then if you look at that info do you like it or not? Do like what players and open spots are available for the future next season? The worris and certain unknowns depending what Arte wants and Perry does? Hope enjoyed reading all who read this comment and thanks again for the fun podcasts and your guys insights. Also Kevin Pillar could resign Angels veteran since he likes it here it seems from recent articles. Have good day!

    The Dodgers got Kiermaier for a reliever they had DFA'd who is also a rental only. Would it make sense to trade Pillar for something similar? Drury and Moore are untradable. Anderson I believe was at -16M at the start of the season and at -1M at the time of the trade deadline. If he keeps going at this rate, he might actually have positive trade value in the off-season. Would you rather trade him at -1M or at a possible 2M or 3M or more in the off-season. Rengifo and Ward have value to trade next year, and this trade deadline was very thin for hitters/outfielders. I understand not trading them for cents on the dollar this year.
    I would give the Angels a C in the trade deadline.
    I don't understand why Angels fan are so hard on PM. He's made some good moves and most importantly he passed on some bad signings. Everyone in the off season wanted him to sign Snell, Montgomery, and other pitchers that have been bad, or in the case of Snell hurt for most of the season.

      Anderson is having a dream season. Nobody thinks he will be good next season especially at his age. He was one of the few good pitchers that was available in a seller's market. Perfect guy for a team that wants to go all in this year. Nobody is going to trade for Anderson in the offseason, his value was highest at the deadline. Anderson wasn't traded because it's a cheap contract for his performance and that's the way Arte likes his payroll on starting pitching.

    • @willpina
      @willpina 2 месяца назад

      @@davidb-bw1hf if you're gonna go all in, you don't trade for Anderson. He is a regular season pitcher, an innings eater who gives you a chance to win and make it to the playoffs. He isn't a pitcher who will make the playoff rotation or be able to pitch in the bullpen. At least that's the way the current post season rosters are built.
      If he continues to have a good season he will have actual positive trade value next year. But like you mentioned, his value might be too good to trade, specially with the uncertainty of Silseth and Detmers.

    • @davidb-bw1hf
      @davidb-bw1hf 2 месяца назад +2

      @@willpina I'm too lazy to look up every team that's in contention's pitching situation but Anderson has era below 3 and has been that pretty much all season. I know he doesn't have overpowering stuff but era under 3 behind a bad defense is someone I would want in a postseason game. You're look at it from a pure money standpoint and I think that's the same way Arte was looking at and the only reason he didn't get traded. No way he gets moved in the offseason for this very reason. Arte is only about money and cutting cost in the starting pitching department. The only way the team wins under arte is if two of our young starters are having ace years at the same season much like back in 2014 with Richards and Shoemaker. The last time they made into the postseason i should add.

    • @willpina
      @willpina 2 месяца назад

      @@davidb-bw1hf Personally, I would have loved my Braves to pick up Anderson if it wasn't for the $$$, although they picked up Soler and screwed up their CBT situation anyway. But the way teams are looking at pitching now is all about avoiding contact and getting the most strikeouts.
      And yes, I do think that not trading him in part was a monetary decision. Like I explained before, Anderson at the trade deadline had a negative trade value, unless he was packaged with someone like Rengifo or Ward, his trade would have been close to a salary dump only. But he is trending positively and could actually have excess trade value next year, but while that would mean a better return, that also would mean that keeping him could be most likely.
      It's simple math, you value 1 WAR at $8M, Anderson is owed $13M next year. So far, this year he's tracking to have a 4 WAR, but regression expected will cut that in half. But even at 2 WAR, that's a $3M surplus
