Great video. It would have been super awesome if SD Powerhouse put even a fraction of the work they put into this bike into the two bikes I gave them to rebuild, only for them to sit on them for five months and give them both back only partially rebuilt, leaking from several places and still in need of engine work. Great job, Bob. It's good to know that you know how to build a bike the right way, you just don't do it for everyone. 👍
Are you sure that your bike didn't have problems beforehand, and you didn't pay him enough to get all of the work completed?? I've NEVER heard of their work being bad - had a friend that had their 450X modified from them. They have a top-tier reputation! Just wanting to know the full story of what happened, cause if it is on them I want no part of their business in the future???
Fun fact, That lower Triple clamp is a Forging not a casting. In aerospace they use forging over billet. They are stronger. MX guys us machine billet, they look cooler but are not as what forging can be. The machined billets are plenty strong, just not as strong as forgings.
Some guys lose sleep over that bracket holding the top of the engine too. How many holes, what size, polished vs sanded, what torque the bolts are at... they say the can feel it. Of course when there is a mill riding on the race I'd consider every detail too, but how about the pit strategy, length of time between injuries, stamina of the rider and what lap number your on, how long the dust lingers on the course... I would think all these parameters mater far more than these minute details.
I am curious to what head mods youade I'm not educated on the baja 1000 rules for the 450 class but I'm curious is it for power or a modification to help keep the head cooler on top of the upgraded cooling system bc keep the bike cool is a key factor in any racing especially in desert racing
Well I can tell you this bike $10,000 ecu $1065 fmf powercore 4 $400 smog delete kit $50 megabomb header 375 stage 2 kit 700 port and polish 250 that’s as far as I got so far do the math and it’s not even done yet still need Scott’s Steering stabilizer kit that’s like 1000+ and a lot of other little things chains and shit like that so about another 1500 or so
Dude, but that's an adventure bike...totally different category. Plus that 70HP comes at the expense of much more added weight...this modified race bike is 60HP and MUCH lighter, and better handling over desert whoops at 80-100mph. That KTM could not compete with this bike in that environment on any level...if they did they'd beat the Honda in Baja...they've even managed to get the Dakar win on this platform. This is a BEAST of open gnarly terrain...that 690 enduro is good for fire road and tarmac. lol If they wanted the 690 enduro to do well offroad they wouldn't have put those sucky Xplor forks on them! And I can say this because I bought and SOLD my 2020 Husqvarna TE TPI two stroke because there were better bikes for me...like my new TM Racing EN300ES 2 stroke and Honda CRF450RX...I would like this San Diego Powerhouse/Twisted Development 450X race bike in the future as well...it CAN'T be beat in the desert!!! 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
Just waiting to mod my bike what should I do first to get some more in first and 2nd gear it’s a 2022 crf450x feels a little under power on the bottom end
Drop a tooth in the rear sprocket if you're trying to find a sweet spot to avoid shifting. This is gonna take sum of the hit out of it but speed will increase slightly. Add 1 tooth in front sprocket = -3 teeth in rear. To get more hook out of rear tire make sure you're sag is correctly & deflate to 8lbs if using stock wheel set up ( no tubliss, mousse etc).
Damn, this could be a 4 hour video and no one would complain!
looks so good. would be great to see some HP numbers out of that beast.
I have a 1988 XR600R and am so glad I have it when I watch this, the Baja is soo awesome!!
I'll still rock my xr650r beast
Sweet, I could only imagine the feeling of finishing that race on that machine!!
An updated 650 would be pretty sick!
Thanks for sharing. Outstanding work.

fantastic build guys well done

Woahhhhh just sitting here drooling

Wow.. Satisfying to watch.
What other parts do you need to swap water pump housings ?
were did you get that water pump cover bracket from?
You guys testing at Plaster City?
I still believe you could build up an older XR 650 r and beat these 450's in Baja.
Great video!
Dear Santa......
Bike looks sick
Beautiful!
How much for a build like this?
Can you give us a ballpark $ how much to dial a 450 in like that! Cheers 🍻

what about lighting? straight baja design kit?

Dang!!!
Why did you grind the master link on one side like that?
They use a chain with no masterlink for more reliability thats how you make them
how much for all your work?
I thought for sure he was gonna sharpen pegs to resemble a Giant Tiger fish..
I really wish Honda would bring back a 650cc race bike. Engine work is nice but there's no way to compete with an 80+hp 700cc machine from KTM
