I am in online class at North Shore Community College in Lynn, Massachusetts, United States. This is very useful for my current chapter in my business class about manufacturing operations. Thank you !
Production of goods in large quantities after processing from raw materials to more valuable products. It is called manufacturing.Industrial development is a precondition for eradication of poverty and employement. It also aims at bringing down regional disparities by setting up in remote and bacward area. It not only help in increasing agriculture which forms the backbone of our country but it also helps to reduce heavy dependence of people on agricultural income. Exports of finished goods expands trade and brings in much needed foreign exchange. The country which convert raw materials into finished goods and then sell, they are found to be more prosperous because they get higher income for finished goods rather than raw materials. India's prosperity lies in improving and diversifying the manufacturing industries. To set up industries, the factors responsible are : Capital, labour, market, raw materials, power supply, water and electricity, also govt. policies. It is rarely possible to get all these facilities at one place, so they try to set up industry where these all can be arranged at low cost. When industries come together to take advantages provided by the govt. it is called agglomeration economies. Urbanisation and industrialisation go hand in hand. When an industrial activity start urbanisation follows.Sometimes industries prefer to set up near towns so towns provide them facilities of consultants, financial advice, market, labour, transport. Agriculture and industrial development are not exclusive of each other. They move hand in hand. Agriculture provides industries the raw materials. Industries sell finished products like pesticides, insecticides, pipes, pumps, etc. to farmers
