Well with my bank's online app I can choose how it works, I can opt to open the app and then hit "tap & pay" which is slower, but there is also the faster option of just unlocking the phone and touching the phone to the terminal for faster payment without having to log into the app. Still have to unlock the phone though.

Nokia 6.1 or Nokia 7.1 we used tap n pay on machine online or offline. No need for iPhone.
