just bough a 2009 ESV with the 6.2L fully loaded for 5k 218k miles most reliable engine ever came out of GM along with the buick 3800, great sounding engine
You're a braver man than I am. I've owned three escalades and the brakes are horrible at 70mph, let alone over 100mph. I'm debating spending about $5k to upgrade front and rear to larger rotors and 6 pot/4 pot calipers, or upgrading my 07 to a 15 or newer, again putting about $5k into upgrading the brakes. It's a comfortable ride, that's for sure but in stock form I'd never take nine that fast.
You could put brakes from a 2019+ Silverado which are 4 piston calipers compared to the stock 2 piston caliper as a cheaper alternative for a bigger brake upgrade. There’s plenty of videos but it’s literally a direct swap besides a little grinding down of a hump on the caliper itself to clear your wheels and a washer as a spacer to center the caliper on the rotor. I just did it to my 2012 Yukon Denali and it’s a great upgrade, stops on a dime.
@@GoldealWow, thank you for the tip! I'm going to look into that. I looked at the Willwood kits, but I didn't want to spend $7k on a vehicle that's not worth a whole lot more than that, even clean with low miles like my 07 is.
@@GoldealWow, you lit the fever in me for a big brake upgrade again! Found a kid with an 03 Silverado who did the upgrade you mentioned. That video led to one where a guy put 2021 police package Tahoe with six-piston front's and 16" rotors, for $1200. That's a lot less than I was looking to spend. Now I'll have to see what a rear upgrade would also look like as well, I wonder if there's a police package rear.
gotta love this generation of the GMT's Especially the Yukon but the Escalades not bad either.sad that they had to close Janesville and move to Arlington to finish this generation.the 6.2 Vortec sounds good But so does the 5.3 Vortec give the 5.3 props atleast.
I picked up a 2009 escalade, it's an amazing car but a real gas guzzler. Mine uses E85 fuel which goes for about $3.25 a gallon. Im getting about 8.9 MPG and I live in a hilly area. If you get one research which years to stay away from and also be prepared to pay for some maintenance. I had to replace front struts, control arm, oxygen sensors, motor mount, etc. I also did cosmetic touch ups. almost 4k out the door for all of that after buying the truck. it's very expensive but the ride quality after the repairs is immaculate.
As a BMW guy I'll say it's a lot cheaper to maintain especially since it's GM parts but a lot of dumb Knicks and knacks will break so you have to be the type that is real OCD with keeping things on the up and up. Imo really bad corrosion so aim for a warm weather lived unit. I still have my 2011 on 24 inch TCS rims and get compliments to this day and I refuse to sell it
I have an '08 ESV with a custom tune flashed in the computer, and some other things. It has 126,000 miles on it and I drive it every day as a work truck filled with tools, material, ladders, and I drive it hard. Very reliable, just change the oil regularly because it has an all aluminum block and heads and you have to keep good fresh oil in them, service it by changing coolant, and trans fluid, the transfer case, differentials lubed, wheel bearings lubed and these 6.2 litre small block 376 cu in 10½ : 1 compression motors will go 300k miles. Just normal maintenance.
WoW...8mpg that's about 29l\100km. More than an average loaded 40t truck. Maybe 30 ton or something like that. That car is immensely ineficient! And limited to 105mph. Interesting car.
I have the same truck but mine is the EXT and is all wheel drive. The MPG is "average" not instant. Meaning it's telling you the average from a programmed amount of miles. I don't know how many miles it averages but I would imagine it included some city (stop and go) miles as well. That is where the truck is horribly inefficient. I get 8-9 MPG towing my 7,000 pound trailer at 65 MPH. I know this because I have one of those tuner computers that tell you everything like instant MPH, engine temp, oil temp, trans temp, etc. Regular highway driving at 75-80 MPH the truck gets 12-15 MPG and will get 18 MPG cruising at 65 MPH. It's a full size SUV with a huge V8, not really built for these speeds. In the USA we don't have an Autobahn and the speed limit on most highways is 70 MPH and less on some.
I'm guessing this won't have any carbon build up at the end of this run. Any way did these even have a GDI engine? Or were they naturally aspirated then? I love the escalade.

Had a tune flashed, upgrading everything plus removing the speed governor, and have supreme duty brakes and rotors, and I have had it up to 148 MPH fully loaded and the A/C on driving out in the desert outside of Los Angeles. I drive it everyday as a work truck on the L.A. freeways and I drive it hard like a hot rod. I've only got 126k miles on the truck. It runs like a champ.
Yeah because you'd want to drive a full-size 3-ton SUV faster than that when the tires it came on were rated at 112MPH lol. What's even worse is trying to make a turn with the rollover risk and trying to stop a full-size SUV at those speeds.
@@user-uq4ly6fp6m you know that you can change the wheels and tires too 😂? I get it’s a heavy SUV but 170 kmh it’s just a hilarious. Q7 / Touareg (V12/W12) from that era could do much more than that
