I am actually sad to see him go. Probably the best defender among the lot we have right now. I think the likes Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw should go first.

The Varane-Martinez partnership was an embarrassing joke. SEVEN to LFC, SIX to City in a 45 min blitz, THREE to Arsenal, TWO to Newcastle, TWO to a managerless and relegated Leeds at Old Trafford., hardly any clean sheets. The idea that they were some sort of defensive powerhouse is absurd and bears no relation to the factual reality. They are one of the worst CB pairings to ever play for the club

Can't you see what kind of a mess United has for the last ten years, at least. After seeing all that, you have to be realistic. Yes the standards are the guys like Rio, Vidic, Jaap Stam, Bruce etc.. guys. But you have to be aware pf your situation. We are not a league winning squad.Also among our current crops of centre backs, Varane and Lizandro stand out as very good players. Whenever he could, Varane put nearly 10 out of 10 performances for us. He was very good. But injuries were always a concern. So yeah, he was very good. And also it's not the time to talk about STANDARDS.

The reason Man Utd don't make money in sales, is because everyone who signs for Utd, get massive wages, and nobody else can afford to buy them, so they stay at Utd, till their contract runs down or out.
Same problem at PSG for years with players like Kurzawa Draxler etc
Not just wages look at Anthony as an example, the club will never be able to sell him for anything close to what we payed. It was good business from Ajax, it was close to the end of the window they could see how desperate United were and managed to get almost double what he was really worth. Not even an isolated instance we've allowed other clubs to make us vastly overpay time and time again.

To be fair ALL the top name clubs rarely sell their big name players for anywhere near what they payout. Utd just seem to be repeatedly at the top of getting nothing or pittance. Our business strategy is absolutely dreadful.

i like the positivity but the real exodus actually starts when ineos make hard decisions on players like maguire rashford mctominay shaw lindelof antony . Varane and martial are the easiest people to remove because they are out of contract after this season . A lot of work to be done still . We need a chelsea like summer where we sell 7-8 players for more than 100 million and buy half decent players who can actually play a possession based system

Brailsford was brought in to reduce costs, when you look at player wages compared to performance output then most players haven’t been worth the cost. We NEED to introduce a performance wage structure.
Exactly an actual football DOF comes in and looks at this team he instantly sees no bang for the buck. He sees a retirement home and super young players with nothing in between. Zip every player 30 or over out the door regardless to start with. Replace with mid twenties players. Pivot from one to another to get the wage structure right and don't add any players on ridiculous wages again.

There's nothing special about a player leaving on a free. Pogba and De Gea left for free under the Glazers. Getting rid of fan favorites like Rashford, Shaw, and possibly Bruno would be a sign of ruthlessness. SAF got rid of fan favorites all the time. Players like Martial, Casemiro, Varane, and Sancho want to leave. They're not been forced out.
That's what an ambitious club would do but sadly I see no ambition from this club anymore.

They'll have the money, even if it needed to be on multiyear finance. The problem is that Ineos have made it clear that this is a fire sale and Sancho is a particulalry dodgy piece of stock to shift with a bad attitude, poor work ethic and sky high wages: no-one's going to bid against them, we're desperate to sell. Expect a near total loss of purchase value and we'll probably end up paying between 30-60% of his wages too, but if Ineos decide to try playing hardball you might easily see him recalled, dumped to the reserves and shifted out like De-Gea in a few years.
Sad Varane is going but can understand it, his injuries are a problem and we need a solid line up not play a game miss a game. But can’t fault his performances when he did play, always gave everything for the badge, what a legend glad I got to see him play at Old Trafford
Varane 4 Champions League winner, world cup winner, leagues with Real Madrid, won a cup with United.
Yeah he got injured often but this man is Class, I'm thankful for his time in United.

Why do you always overlook harry Maguires 190k a week. Varane going means more of Maguire and I don't believe well win anything with him as a starter. If I'm wrong at the end of next season I'll put my hand up. But he's not elite

No one believes we can't win anything with him (neither do you). I think you need to give this a rest. He's a guy who has been through hell and fought back to prove he has the mental fortitude to be at a club like Man United where the club is subject to the microscopic analysis of the media. I'd keep him.
Also, keeping him is a better choice because too many changes in one summer is not exactly a great thing.

Our best football under ETH came with the varane Martinez and our longest run without Maguire starting. Let's see what happens and maybe with the right coaching Maguire could still be a success

Varane is one I'm sad to see go. Wish injuries hadn't hampered his time in United. He gave everything when he was fit. Maybe he is past his prime, but man, what a player.

You know your on the top of the food chain when the most exited you can get about transferring players are the wages being saved.
A million a week is good money. They basically wasted 50 million a year these past 2-3 years. It's not a top 6 club.

With players like Varane and Martial leaving on a free, if United manage to sell players like Casemiro, Sancho, Eriksen, Lindelof, AWB, Greenwood, McTominay and Donny, they will save around £1.8m in wages per week. That's almost £97m saved in wages per year. Add Maguire, Antony and fringe players like Amad, Hannibal, Brandon Williams, and doubtful players like Shaw, United will save almost £100m in wages just by clearing these players out.
Add about £180m sale price to that and with amortization, United can effectively buy 5-6 players for £70m each, £150k per week wage. That will be £420m spent on players, £180m from player sales, which is £240m net spent.
Wish the players leaving were more like Maguire, Rashford and Mctominay but a starts a start i guess.

Correct me if i’m wrong but losing Casemiro, Sancho, Martial, Varane and more will greatly help our FFP restrictions because if wages are taken into account for FFP, each of them is around £13m to £19m a season on wages.
Absolutely no faith they will bring in better replacements just seems like cutting the highest earners. Be lucky to get 8th next year if better players don't arrive.
Sam, these are easy decisions to make. These 2 are no brainers, I will be impressed if they pull the plug on Sancho, Maguire and Casemiro.

For Varane, it was our fault because he is injury prone and we signed him. Martial has not even played but gets paid a fortune. CRAZY
We are selling Verane, our best CB, while we are keeping Harry, Victor, and Rashford whovearnsc 300 thousand.

A reduced contract for Varane would have been OK. He could still play 15 games a season. Sancho may work better under a better manager.
