- In this video I fix the bad thermostat that came in my replacement engine and do a timing belt service while I'm in there.
I also install a smaller blower pulley for more PSI'z.
WOW!!! This really brings me back 12-14 years in the best way. Wrenched and wrenched for hours and hours on my b5 2.8 30v, was my first car. Sits in my barn now collecting dust...PES G1 setup that I intercooled, smaller pulley running a piggy back tuner style from 2009-10 😅
I also had a 200 20v (pearl white) but was an idiot an sold it about 4 years ago. Put so much into that car. Yours is amazing...I remember rebuilding the distributor cog and hall sensor, having the drive the little roll pin out the replace the crappy plastic cog to upgrade to the brass one 🙄

I'm doing a custom W8 supercharged engine for my Passat. This V6 looks great.
I'm working on an adapter for the 3L supercharger to the 2.8. heat exchangers where the intercoolers go on an S4. It's my own thing I've been working on. My project is a 2001 Audi A4 with S4 interior and gauge cluster, TT RS Bbk, dropped h&r suspension, and some 18" enki's.
Ive been thinking of doing that to my b5 s4, i already have a supercharger from a Buick but need a different snout head to shorten it... any idea's?
I am 100% not a wrench, but damn do I need to learn.
I picked up a 2.8 1992 100CS Quattro, and I'm struggling with maintenance. It's stuff like this that helps inspire me to figure it out.
How did y'all start, by the way? I don't have that confidence to do any major projects on my daily driver, and that's all I can afford to have.

Hello there and greets from Germany. I have an 1998 B5 Quattro Model in very very good condition and my next project will be kind of the same. Your channel inspired me alot and I am glad to see other persons out there going the way of a supercharger instead of a turbo setup! Nobody in Germany is willing to help me with my supercharger project because all say things like. Awww too expensive, save ur money and buy an s4 instead bla bla. The thing is i want to have something custom so badly. I purchased a used 2.8 engine and in phase 1 of the project I will rebuild that engine from the ground of to prepare it for the supercharger. :) Did you run into any problems yet in terms of reliabilty? I am planning to use this car every day also for long term highway rides like 1000 miles. Do you think this will work with the supercharger setup? Hope to see more content and wish u a happy new year!
Thank you for the kind words my friend! I like to do things that are a bit different as well and my goals for this car are not to be the biggest or most extreme build out there. The engine is all stock internally and the setup has been very reliable so far. Just keeping up with normal older Audi maintenance is key. The torque curve is very flat which helps preserve the drivetrain as well as keeping stock internals happy. The one thing that may be a concern for you is fuel. I run on nothin but E85 which helps immensely. This supercharger kit does not have an intercooler and creates a very high temperature air charge. Without proper fuel, ignition advance has to be very mild to prevent pre-ignition (knock) and with very conservative ignition timing you don't end up with a ton of gains like I'm seeing with mine. If you have E85 available then you are in good shape, if not, you will want to look into a custom intercooler setup potentially.
Either way, keep an eye out for new content coming in 2021. Working on some B5 content as well as getting youTube updated with some of my Audi 200 content as well.
@@amdisthebest Sorry for my late reply. Thank you very much for the advice! It helped alot. Anyways. So far I just disassembling the 2.8 V6 engine. The next thing will be a complete revision of the cylinder heads. I think I can increase the displacement by 3.0l and at the same time reduce the compression level a tiny bit for lower combustion chamber temperature.

Looks clean! I picked up my first 2.8 Avant for screaming deal with the PES supercharger already installed. I’ve always had 1.8T‘s and have done the ignition conversion on those. I notice better throttle response and a slightly better idle, did you notice any improvement doing the coil conversion with the wasted spark system? What Supercharger pulley did you use? I would like to run a smaller pulley and E85 in the future.
Wow, sorry for the delay.
I did it mostly for cleanliness since having the coil pack up on top of the blower ends up looking a little busy in my opinion. If replace known hood components, there really isn’t much of a performance gain by jumping to the FSI coils but they are resonantly priced and readily available which is always a plus.
The pulley system I used from from a cobalt SS site but I had to make my own hub to adapt their hub. The pulley system is now modular and I can swap out to other pulleys with relative ease. I can’t go any smaller than the 2.6” though since I already had to clearance the blower snout a little bit.

Raul Robles that’s the supercharger bypass valve opening and closing. It’s stainless steel so it reflects light when it flips open and closed.

Thank you! The supercharger was made by a company called PES. The kit was called the G2. Used will be your only option these days and even so they are really hard to find.

My wife has a B5.5 Passat and I would LOVE to bolt this kit up to it, swap a new tranny in, and have it tuned. It would be the unique car she’s always wanted.
They didn't come with a blower from the factory, you are correct. This blower is a Magnuson MP62 which is quite similar to an Eaton M62. This was a kit produced by a company called PES Tuning and this kit was specific for the 2.8L 30v Audi/VW engines. This kit has been discontinued for a long time. Injectors are not stock.
Finding a complete kit now will not be easy, unfortunately though they do pop up used every now and then.

Thanks man! The center display is from colormfa.ru/en or Litke LLC in the US is a distributor of their products. The 200 wagon was sold back in the summer of 2018. Miss it everyday. It’s in good hands up in BC, Canada now though.

You can only find them used and they are very rare. Quite expensive as well when you do find one.

The kit has been discontinued many years ago. They were also very rare but you can get lucky and find used ones once in a while. Search for PES G2 on eBay and Facebook.

It's been running well! I did end up finally getting a fender but I haven't installed it yet. Soon hopefully.

A quick question, instead of running E85 do you think a heat exchanger similar to a M62 on a cobalt ss would be a viable option of bringing down the inlet temperature
Adding an intercooler will help quite a bit I’m sure though I don’t think it would unlock the full potential like E85 can. The two combined would be nice and I plan to build my own intercooler one day.
That awesome will be looking forward to that. I was researching on the PES G2 kit and the limitations of the m62 and wondering if a TVS adaption is a better option to a 2.7t on pump
ECU QUESTION - who did the tune on the ECU? Are you running a GIAC chip? My 2000 A4 B5 2.8 Q needs a new ECU - the mechanic can’t find someone to add a tune for the PES G2 Supercharger set-up.
I did the tuning myself as I received my kit used and without ECU. I custom tuned it for my particular injectors and I run my car on E85 as well.

I would appreciate help here as the shop/mechanic is telling me that they can’t do the tune and cannot find anyone who can (Denver/Colorado Springs) so they recommend that I return the car to stock (but who wants a stock 2.8). Would sure like to learn how you tuned it. Apparently - this is an increasingly rare skill.
I don’t have a video on tuning the ecu and it’s not exactly something that would be very easy to explain. Not to mention it’s just not easy to do in general.

yo dude, i got my own B5 2.8 v6 and im thinking of slapping a turbo on it as well at some point. i really cant find anything online, everyone just talks about 1.8 b5. how has your experience bin so far with it? a lot of my friends say its super expensive and not worth the hassle. but im not looking to pimp the ride to like 500 ps or so, im more than happy with just a regular turbo and some tuning to reach 250 ps or so. don't want a ticking time bomb as a motor :P im daily driving it.

The kit is no longer made so used is the only option. It was made in the mid 2000’s.

This was a kit specific to this engine. Made by a company PES Engineering back in the mid 2000's. The blower itself is a Magnuson MP62 which is quite similar to an Eaton M62. PES did make a "G3" kit which worked on the B6 3.0 engines as well.

I did the tuning on my car but it's specific to the ATQ engine, Bosch 550cc injectors and E85 fuel.

This kit can work on that engine and I’m sure there would be some nice gains with the proper tuning. Tuning will definitely be the tricky part though.
Have you had piston issues at that level of boost? I have the same set up and want to go to a smaller pulley but I hear the pistons like to melt at around 10 psi.
The pistons only have an issue when the tune is poor. Or fuel. My car runs on e85 and it’s unlikely that I’ll ever have an issue with the pistons.

These are oem coils from a later engine. Sometimes referred to as R8 coils. I just go to the dealer and buy them.

The block is all original. Nothing changed or added internally. The bottom end is very similar to the S4 engine which has proven to be plenty strong with proper tuning/fuel.

The kit was sold in the mid 2000’s. Google PES G2. You can catch them for sale used every now and then.
If you swap to the smaller pulley do you need to have the ECU retuned?
colton I can’t comment for other tuning but I’m tuning this car myself and I didn’t need to adjust anything.
colton w the maf reads more air volume and compensates properly.

Any recent progress with the B5 G2?
I moved and the car has been in storage since I've moved sadly. I finally got a set of new fenders and front and rear subframes to replace the crust northeast ones. Aside from that, I have a Syvecs ECU waiting to go in it as well. Hoping to get back to the car very soon though. I've been missing it!

Jomar Ferrer the pulley system is for a Cobalt SS. I machined my own hub to adapt it to this supercharger and now I have a quick change system.

@@drewm9185 as long as it’s a 30v engine this kit will work. The earlier 30v engines have different ecu systems though so the tuning will be different.

I actually bought it off of eBay. Brand is Maximizer if I recall correctly. Looks identical to OBX as well.
Would you do this to a non Quattro?
The power is manageable and linear so I think a FWD would do pretty well with a kit like this. I do think Quattro would be preferable but not a necessity.

@@igotWeedinhereCowboy it’s custom made from a few different parts. I used the heat shield from 034 Motorsport originally intended for the B5 S4. The air filter and velocity stack are from Vibrant Performance and I made the MAF adapter myself.
