As an initiate of Ordo Templi Orientis myself; the PGM really is an amazing resource for anyone practicing ceremonial magick! Practically every tradition can find elements of its history in its pages. Working with it has been such a profound experience, magically. The rituals are also highly adaptable. Many authors mine the pages of the PGM for new material all the time. I consider this essential reading!! Another great & well informed video from Angela!!! Thanks for all your wonderful contributions to religious studies!! 👍
📜The deeper we delve the harder it is to say the "other" person is wrong. Love the Woo. :) Great video, and your back ground..... now I want to go back to Egypt. It will be a fun Magus lecture this coming Sunday. It is so interesting how so much of the PGM has influenced the ceremonial portion of Wicca. Sad, in that it seems the deeper meaning behind the magik is not being taught, or is simple not understood in a way that can be passed on. Hopefully those that are trying to walk in the world of magik will see this video and be inspired to study the PGM and thus deepen the energy of their circle. If you want to achieve a higher level of efficacy in your magik, understand why you are doing each step in the ritual. Thank you Dr. Puca. Great work. Namaste
I have always wondered why some magical practitioners were so against mixing or blending pantheons in workings when it seemed like a natural progression (if you will). I have never read the PGM, but am on my way to purchasing my own copies now. Thank you.
it is due to the present changes in the field of Pagan spirituality, where many practitioners of magic come from. Paganism these days is deeply immersed in conflicts over the legacies of different ages and cultures. Reconstructionism that says everything should be "authentic" and historically reconstructed as meticulously as possible is doubled with devotional polytheism which claims that gods are "separate independent beings" and thus will most likely get offended if you happen to call them by a "wrong" name.
You have a point. I keep on being told never to mix traditions. Yet golden Dawn, galdrabok, Greko Roman, Greko Egyptian,...even Solomonic magic ATRs and New Orleans Hoodoo, Appalachian Conjure, is all a mix systems !
I have never heard of the PGM before this video- I always assumed that the fusion of various cultural practices in modern spirituality was a new phenomenon accelerated by the internet. Interesting to see how wrong I was!
Another fabulous video, Dr. Puca! I've seen the PGM referenced many times, but I haven't taken the time to look into what they actually are 😅 thank you for a really accessible starting point, the branches of esotericism cross in so many places it can make your head spin 😂📜
📚🗞📒📖✒📝⏳🎓I searched but i couldn't fund a scroll emoji! So I chose a some other academic ones! That was a brilliant lecture- I knew, vaguely, the golden dawn took from ancient sources but i didnt know which as it was many years ago when I looked into that. I also find the syncretism of magical knowledge and thought fascinating. I find I draw on many sources but often feel strange about my scattered beliefs. However the more I study I realise that it is less important and many/all ages have drawn upon the previous eras for magical thought and practice! So, why shouldn't we now have the whole myriad of options for whatever calls to us individually for our magical thoughts and practices! Thank you for all you do to make esoterica accessible to all!

📜 I like the all purpose spell calling on Selene/Hecate, since I’m a devotee of Hecate. I’m very familiar with the PGM since I am studying it and used some of the knowledge in there to help me with the publication of my book on Hecate ❤. It’s a very interesting texts, really!
📜Excellent lecture! I have the Greek Magical Papyri in Translation - Volume 1 Edited by Hans Betz. Haven't done much with it it. Will have to look more into it. Look forward to your webpage!!
I quite like the Greek even had they hellenized their base stories from earlier cultures (I believe they did) they had a wonderful way of putting it in their own words .
The movement between dogmatism/purism and syncretism in light of the pgm I think debunks the idea of purism being traditional and syncretism/pluralism being somehow a violation of that tradition. Clearly syncretism can be as traditional and what we might call purism in magical practice (for example manifest in how many of use practice both GD or OTO enochian [which are not at all the same thing of course] as well as "Dee purist" enochian. And Dee & Kelly's Angelicall magic is a great example in that it continued to be practiced as a traditional Christian form of angel magic (undergoing natural developments) until the GD. Fast forward today you will be hard pressed to find ANYONE (myself included) who argues for enochian as an exclusively Christian form of magic, yet that is what it was revealed as only 500 years ago. So the syncretism seems to be nascent within and as a part of traditionalism in every respect. Anyway, such a great episode, Dr Puca, thank you and I hope you enjoyed my two cents. Rock on!
great video! I'll look into these texts! I myself worship mostly Greco-Roman, Indian, Andean and Yoruba deities. It's really nice to find a good connection to my ancestors. 📜🧿🕯️
Well, I'm pretty interested in the Headless (which Crowley used, mistrranslated, as the "Bornless"). It's led me to an interesting complex of ideas of headless spirits in the Middle East, seemingly going back to Göbekli Tepe! 📜
So interesting! As you described vox magicae I was struck by the Hindu/Tantric parallel of "seed mantras", known as bīja. Ditto for your description of a multi-step process starting with purification, which is paralleled in Hindu/Tantric puja vidhi (ritual worship procedure).
Eh, it was a self-evident statement that didn't need a cite prob, but that's cool (somewhere in the 9th minute, between 9 and 10 I think). Separate topic, it would be interesting to learn the origin (as far as we know now) of common specific magical practices (circle, quarters, etc etc). I assume much of the most basic stuff's origins are lost to time, but maybe others?
Love the content. I find all of the editing cuts distracting though, at least in the visual. The audio is smooth. I am having to listen and not watch. Keep up the great work.
I can't do emojis...!?! :( I have been looking at the PGM for over 20 years now! One of the spells (PGM VIII, if I remember correctly) was discussed in my doctoral dissertation very briefly... Several others have been important in my spiritual work as well, for what they reveal about the historical cultus that I've been heavily involved in reviving for the present age. And, one bit of evidence in them will be quite essential in the academic article I am currently preparing that, when it comes out, you'll be especially interested in seeing the results of, as it relates quite directly to some things that I know have been of interest to you! ;)
So. Um. One of them calls for Diafiy a cat. Like drowning it. As you o Hold it down. Another one. To have the severed head of an OK at your feet as you sleep can we contimoris
Dr Sledge talks about the PGM a lot, I wouldnt say I have a favorite spell (I'm more about blessings and direct communion) but it is actually very reflective of my own practice aa I dont limit myself to any one pantheon but rather formed a covenant with those deities, spirits and other persons mystic that are aligned with my morals, ethics and goals.📜🤹♀

I think it's a search for validation and legitimacy, something the ancients didn't care about.

Excellent stuff. Really made me reconsider my biases against the tendency of, say, Wicca to be so eclectic.

Count Drunkula is following the Queen.
Pretty much every pagan polytheist nowadays is syncretic/eclectic. I think it's historically accurate.
Only if PGM did not have any Abrahamic influence,I would've considered it as my holy book.
Love the content.
