The RAB activated one time and I thought I hit something backing into something, got out of the car, inspected the car and surroundings - holy moly RAB was aggresive!
I think the blind spot monitors are using the rear sensors. I think it calculates the relative speed of the car behind vs. your speed, I had them flashing early when a car was approaching very fast.
I imagine that’s right! And I’ve noticed the same thing. Slow vs. fast approaching vehicles triggers the system at a different distance, that’s pretty cool!
I was backing out of the kindergarten parking lot at my son's school and the RAB slammed to a stop because of a tiny, flat, cement gutter. Turned it off forever and never looked back.
That doesn’t sound fun! Mine hasn’t gone off very many times, but each time I did I understand the reason why, even if I knew how I was backing up wasn’t in line to bump something. But I’d say the couple times it was legit I’m grateful for. I’ve never tried to turn it off so thank you for sharing that it stays off! 🙂
Just bought a 24 OUTBACK wilderness last night traded my 2020 limited for it, i live near Tahoe so i feel this will be more of a beast up here , wish i would have gotten it last week b4 the 10foot blizzard we had😂
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 why thank ya🤗,, same color as yours , it's missing some of my "luxury items" I had but I'll live lol, big difference in the screen rez not as good but I'm super happy w it so far, I go off road w my dogs a lot in summer too can't wait, the other one was too nice for all that lol, thanks for the reply have a super dooper day
In my 2024 Forester Wilderness, I've noticed in higher crosswinds the lane assist struggles and at times the car is over the center or side line. I'd suggest not using it with any fairly windy conditions. Also, if there is any road kill, thunk .... thunk, it will run right over it.
Oh great insight! Thanks for adding those two points! Yeah, strong cross winds with the sensitivity of Subarus steering wheel is something to be careful about! 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208I tried my 2024 Forester lane centering while there was a light breeze. It just kept swaying left and right in the lane on the interstate with clear conditions and good lines. I ended up just shutting it off because it was making us car sick.
I get that, I’ve occasionally had to turn lane keep assist off as well when it acts up or doesn’t compensate well enough to the circumstances. Thanks for sharing this experience!
Nice! Do they seem to work well and be a very mature system in your Audi? Obviously not every system is created equal between manufacturers. I know some of these systems are better in other cars or brands, and obviously others are worse. But in general it seems like the newer the vehicle the better tuned the system is. 🙂
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 Yes, I know some people don't like "nannies," but as I inch my way towards 60, I don't mind them at all. One of my favorites, is the stop and go dynamic cruise control.
Never owned a Subaru but plan on the 2025 Forester Touring and have a real good feeling that owning a Subaru with these features is going to save me a lot of money and headaches
I heard the adaptive cruise control with steering assist is not hands off the wheel but helps keep you in the lane while you still need to keep your hands on it. My 2024 touring XT will alert you if you don't keep your hands on the wheel. And I have the 3 camera setup
I bought a new Outback in May 2023 and the RAB stopped me twice while backing out of my driveway. I talked to the dealer and showed them a video when it happened. They said that the angle of my driveway makes the RAB system kick in because it thinks I am about to hit something. They said to back out slowly and at a slight angle. Never had it happen since.
I’m glad you were able to figure it out! That’s so strange, I’ve never experienced mine become activated when it didn’t at least make sense why it thought it needed to.
Yeah, most of them can be turned off! But when the weather is bad enough like thick fog or heavy rain eventually the system will turn itself off until it thinks it can sense the road again. 🙂
I did love my Subaru, But it was too much of a LEMON 🍋 to keep. So now someone else is enjoying it breaking down Constantly. My 23 Tacoma isn’t as advanced in technology as my Forester Touring 🍋, but that means there’s less to go wrong. I LOVE my Tacoma TRD Off Road, which with all of the options, it’s a Limited with the TRD Off Road pkg. I’m quite sure that my Tacoma will be the last vehicle that I’ll ever have to own, which is what I was hoping from my Forester 🍋 was supposed to be.
I’m glad you’re in the Tacoma now, those are such awesome trucks. And the last year of the naturally aspirated examples. I’m curious to see how the 2.4 turbo tacos do, hopefully they’re sound engines.
@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 I’m sure they’ll do great for 80K to 100K, but then the demand for the pwr and torque that is needed for a work horse or even day to day driving will comprise the engine. Yeah that engine is great in the Hylander and other SUVs as people haulers, but for what people put their trucks through is totally different. A friend of mine and I are taking our Tacoma’s over a rough dirt road from Wenatchee to Ellensburg this summer and 4 of us are going on a different more rugged road over Blewett Pass this summer as well. We will NOT be abusing our Taco’s, so if you’d like to join us in your Wilderness, you’re more than welcome to join us. Yes our wives and will be joining us. They’ll just be day trips. Nothing too hard. I’m sure you’re Subie can handle it.
I love Subarus and I'll probably end up getting one when the insanity dies down, but I have to say something about all these safety features. I'm 66. Anybody my age will know where I'm coming from. All of this safety stuff everywhere we go is going to do the same to us as spell checker and grammar check on Microsoft Word. It's going to make us stupid and incapable of doing anything without checking, "The Machine." If we are so dependent on everything except our own brain and capabilities then we are going to be in serious serious trouble in the near future. I'm already seeing it everywhere.
My wifes Outback is the most intrusive vehicle I've ever driven and I have a modern truck as well. The slamming on of brakes while reversing is absolutely absurd. Bike rack on the car? Forget about it. And the biggest problem with that is that turning it off isn't easily found because it, along with many other functions are buried deep in the menus (massive center screen with no physical buttons) not user friendly whatsoever
Some of those features have on screen shortcuts to turn them off or on when you are in that mode. Like backing up and the rear camera is on, there are on screen buttons to turn off the RAB when you say have a bike rack with bikes on the back. But to turn it off before you go into reverse, yes it is deep in the settings menu.
@jefferycampbell9182 yeah, that particular experience was the 1st time driving with the rack on and she wasn't there. It's her car so she set it up how she wants it. The old man in me much prefers dedicated buttons and less intrusion.
the "CGI" looking great LOL
Thanks for watching! 😁

Yeah for sure! It’s very aggressive lol.

Loved this video. Very helpful! Hoping to purchase a 24 Subie Forester this summer.
I’m glad it was helpful, I had a lot of fun making it lol. That sounds like something really fun to look forward to in a few months! 🙂
RAB has, saved me from tapping a few cars in my parking garage
That’s awesome! It’s a feature I’d rather have than not.

My 2023 Forester does the same. It’s reading the road but if I go slow I don’t have an issue.
Can you do the same safety feature breakdown on your New Subaru Forester? Thx.
That’s a good idea! I’ll see what I can do.
Does the Wilderness lack the driver monitoring system?
Correct, no mitigation system on the Wilderness (at least the U.S. spec).
Lol, the EAB sounds like something from a TV Game Show.
Yeah, the intensity of the brakes electronically engaging is a horrible sound lol. 😂
Does heads up display shows speed and navigation directions?
No, it only has those lights. It’s a very basic system. Mazda and Chevy have a more legit HUD than this.
