You Don't Lap Plates?! Interior Wall Layout Project 150
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 17 окт 2024
- Basic, very basic interior wall lay out. The biggest difference here is that all three of our plates are identical, we strap them instead of lapping them. Big time savings, less ladder work, and no loss in strength. In New Zealand they do something similar and its built into their code.
The Makita 10 1/4" saw is lightweight and powerful, no cord to trip on. The Big Foot Tools layout stick is a cheap jig that is worth using in my view.

Please remember that I'm not showing the best way to form footings, but just the method that works well for us. Thanks for watching!
Oh and another takeaway, if you use a drone for commercial work, you need to be part107 certified. Commercial work includes social media like RUclips if you plan to make an income off of that. I watched a video about this last May and then purchased the Part 107 Course sso.teachable.... I studied and learned for 1 month and then took my test. I scored a 95%, which is a testament to how good Greg and the crew over there teach. That link will save you $100 off the course and support this channel.

Logged in to RUclips just to say thank you! These videos are solid gold. Please keep making them.
I love your videos, and I learn a lot... Then I remember I'll never build a new home, and every house I'll ever buy to fix up is from the 1820's, so I'll get to use line 0.002% of what I learn here. Oh well, still good content!
I’ve been framing for 8 years, in construction for 14, I’m 28 now. I’d love to come work for some one like yourself. Smart and Efficient . Hard to find a boss like that .
Newish framer here, I like your methods way better than some that I've been taught. Just curious, if you're connecting all of the interiors as you go how are you getting them plum? We stand them up, anchor on our line and brace then plum them all at the end when we connect them and fill in top plates. Your processes are much more streamlined and seem like they make a one or two man show go a lot smoother. Great content as always!
Do you find in your area that you get more two X material that are 16’ that crown as opposed to 12’ that aren’t crowned as bad ?
You guys are awesome. You and Kyle are teaching me a ton. So when I go and build my own house I will have the confidence it is done right and structurally sound. Like and awesome framer. Keep feeding me the information guys. Keep up the awesome work guys. Also how can I get an awesome framers hat. I got to have one. Lol.
You're a framing genius.
What kind of a saving do you see framing 2 feet O.C.?
Is there a reference in the IBC that allows this strapping instead of overlap or do you need an engineer to stamp the detail for your code official?
As always... Absolutely Awesome 🥳🥳🥳
Nice touch having the definition of heretical in the video for those of us who, intentionally or otherwise, like to misunderstand the words of controversial statements.
I don’t like or dislike the straps. It’s just another added expense. However, if I were training new carpenters I can see the bonus in have the straps. Great work as always.
Whats the best way to convince a local inspector for this strap technique?
does double checking yourself twice mean do it three times or four times
You are framing walls on three 2x4's, what is the size of wall studs you are using?
It’s a regular 2 by 4 wall that your bottom plate top plate and double top plate
Great video!!
The heats in the tools!!!!
Thanks for the video!! What keeps you from moving to single top plate if you're not overlapping? Do you still need the flexibility to not stack members sometimes?
Isn't it for nailing other elements, trim, etc?
Special length studs. And if you have to cut them, that's more work. Better to stick with double plate and precuts.
Double plate is also for holding the vertical weight from the roof down.
Would love to do plumbing at your builds 😂
Makes total sense...
Excelente trabajo 👊 💯
Like your humor: I know cause I never done it, at least that's what my mom told me.
Lmao at people whining about not overlapping.
Simpson specializes in making hurricane proof structural products. Strapping the plates is perfectly acceptable and just as strong
Does your sparky ever hit the straps while drilling?
No because they hang out far enough to see
Does it have the same shear resistance? Thanks for the video Mr.:D
Of course.
Simpson makes strapping and clips for hurricanes lol
@@evictioncarpentry2628 Ofc I know what Simpson does doh, I was just wondering if that piece of tin is stronger than a 2x4. I use similar bracing but only to counter uplifting..😀
@@nZebco Doubtful
@@nZebco If it wasn't as strong or stronger then a wood connection, would it be hurricane rated? Lol
If you're pulling apart a partition wall, which these are, they're not structural, it's going to be the same shear force pulling them apart as a vertical strap with uplifting.
Larry Haun just "cut by eye." Great video though.
I assume the thickness of the straps and nails isn't enough to cause issues with the future floor system / trusses potentially sitting on top of them.
He said towards the end that he tries to keep them off layout if possible, but I would assume that 1/16” to 3/32” thick strap won’t make much of a problem either way
I have had material out of the same bundle that is different thicknesses and widths. I would have thought that if they are in the same bundle that they came from the same 4 sided planer so they are the same. Maybe I'm thinking wrong. To respond to your question, I don't think it would make a difference. By the time each piece of wood shrinks differently who knows how thick each piece will be. Again, maybe I'm all wet.
Love your videos, like your style also. Never seen one of those ladders, where did you get it?
Everyone I've ever worked for always told me that heat is in the tools
I’ve got the same 6pack as you 😂👊
Yes, it keeps us from bending over too far and hurting our backs. :)
Heats in the tools.
Fuking awesome
3 leg ladder?!
Great content!!!Liked #26 BAMMMMMMMM
No
..no...
Don't listen to Any of this! you'll be better off.
Too much notice. You have to be kidding mr
Watch Larry Haun’s building walls video and realize how silly this is.
You don’t think building construction has progressed at all in the last 20 years? I’m pretty sure that video was released in the early 2000’s…
@@TheRealBeardedBuilder What he is doing is not acceptable. He comes up with his own ways and thinks he had the best technique.
@@Faruk651 I’m sure it’s perfectly fine if an engineer signs off on it. I’m sure you probably use a bunch of 2x12 material stacked together for your headers instead of moving to a single LVL too. It’s ok to be more efficient and progress in your trade.
@@Faruk651 why is it not acceptable? These are partitions, just there (mostly) to hold drywall. I'm genuinely curious as to why you think this is substandard.
@@TheRealBeardedBuilder I use steel for beams.
Don’t frame like this.
