Maybe there’s been a deal struck from higher populated countries-that they won’t start a war to invade, if other countries like Canada, Australia accept their citizens - the take over of our countries silently with immigration and their citizens being able to invest in our country buying up property and land. A friend asked a rest estate agent recently who is buying all the houses because everytime they are listed they are under contract within minutes sometimes and the agent said it’s cashed up, overseas Chinese investors. They have to pay high taxes in order to purchase but they can afford it.

A list of electorate offices to be invaded and camped in would be a dam fine start. Tents on politicians front lawns would be a good follow up. After World War Two the governments of Australia and New Zealand built houses in massive numbers for returning soldiers. They then made it easy for them to buy them. This is a government created problem to be dealt with by government. Leaving it to developers will provide half arsed solutions and non compliant houses that leak. I do not need help in this matter.

In Australia. If you're a citizen and think secure, this proves that you can be in a good position one day, and on the 2nd day, you could be homeless. It can happen that fast. Evictions, price hikes, lack of rises of wages across the board, businesses crashing, families breaking down. Lack of government rewards for hard workers, the government supporting ongoing slackers, but refuse to support those in crisis mode because you need to be at rock bottom for a little while until you qualify for help. This country has no real good reason to work hard and long. Rich dominate and the working class slip into poverty.

No immigration crisis, it is the housing crisis that was created by the gigantic real estate industry and banks. They are the ones who have control on the price of selling the housing like the products.
Houses became the financing and investment products instead of the personal living home, with more banking manipulating the interest rates, the house became unaffordable in the long run.
The unethical capital interest maximization economy development model has created this type of multilayer crisis.
Blame the greedy real estate, landowners, banks, and lobbyist groups, and the loophole system from the government. They are the real powerful and influential force behind this whole living Crisis.

Immigration is NOT the problem... the FACT is there are literally 1000's of properties sitting vacant across Australia... the issue is negative gearing... Michael Biercuk "Abbott saying immigration is the problem with why housing is so expensive is the complete odds with the facts" "there are 230,000 vacant or underutilised homes in the Sydney area and the ones with the most vacancies are the ones with the lowest rental yield and the most negative gearing tax deductions."
Let me explain how it works to be eligible for the negative gearing tax break a property has to be made "available" for rent... so all they do is jack up the rental until it is unaffordable and no obe will rent it... technically they have made the property available and can not only claim the fees for advertising and property management, rates and other expenses they can also claim for loss of rent and thereby reduce there personal tax burden.

It was under John Howard's Liberal leadership that the turbo chargers were put on immigration, with well over 150,000 to 250,000 invited in each year. However John Howy was a very "clever" politician he focused a lot of attention on illegal boat people, and stopping the boats whilst laying the red carpet for hundreds of thousands of "legal" migrants via airports, I think it's called the "bait and switch", and Howard excelled at this.

Wowww i remember renting in sydney in the inner west, about 15 years ago, some places i lived in was a 2 bedroom unit at $220 a week, and a 3 bedroom house was $380 a week!!! I got rentals everytime i needed them as I had a really good long term job and the girl at my real estate would find me a rental straight away without even having all the hassle of going to open inspections. I got out of sydney just before they started the massive rent increasing, there's no wayyyyy I could afford to live in Sydney anymore not without having to rent out every bit of space to extra renters but it gets too insane living with so many other flatmates who are messy and party and sneak other people to live with you for free, yea I had to get out of that crap.

We've been hit with a unaffordable rent rise last year, we're just hanging in there. I sold my 4wd and bought a old bus that I am trying to get liveable. Though it's taking a long time due to my health and trying to save for materials.
We both work, I'm on a DSP and work part time at a bus depot and my wife a community carer. There is no affordable rentals in our area (we are not in a major city) that we can afford. Being private rental at the moment our rent is actually lower than most in this area thanks to our landlord, he could easily be getting another 100-150 a week from this property looking at the other rentals in the area. We simply could not afford that. The bus will be our home, and they cannot take that from us. Just have to find somewhere to park it. Rental prices even way out west are ridiculous, greed in it's finest. I feel for those that have already been forced into their car or tents.

I have solar for fridge, lights and devices, bit of investment there but no more bills. I get water off my tarp or collect it from a nearby rain tank. I filter all water for consumption. Cooking mostly on charcoal/heat beads hibachi under tarp, plus butane sometimes. No rent, no debt, no water bill, no mortgage.

Australian housing is overpriced and way laden under debt. The bubble has been brewing for decades, and most people assume the highest price sold for a property applies to all properties in the area. It's this thinking plus real estate agents encouraging such thoughts that drive the prices. Supply and demand, fair enough, but the psychology of people has been so engrained with the highest price thinking it's quite psychologically sick. Australia, the bubble is here.

That is a gross exaggeration of the number of truly vacant dwellings.
On census night there may be 1 million dwellings in which no person slept. However a week or two later people are sleeping there.
The number of truly vacant properties in areas of need is much much smaller.
Here are the reasons why many dwellings are reported vacant on census night:
      * People on holiday, and soon return home.
      * Rental property between tenants. When tenants move out it often takes a week or two to inspect, arrange repairs, and find new tenants.
Do the math. If every investment property has a 6 month turnover and is vacant for 2 weeks between leases then this gives an 8% vacancy rate for the entire rental stock.
      * Greedy landlord trying to get a higher rent leaves the property vacant for longer
      * Holiday home that is vacant most of the year.
      * Home that has been sold and buyer is about to move in. Often properties are vacant for a few weeks. Some buyers like to renovate before they move in so the house is vacant for 6 months or more.
      * house-flipping. Sometimes tradesmen, builders or DIYers will buy homes, renovate them and then sell for profit. These dwellings can be vacant for 6 months to a year while the renovations occur.
      * AirBnB house. What used to be available to live in permanently now functions as a hotel/motel for short stays
      * Non-vacant. People are unwilling to fill in the census for some reason such as illegal activity or privacy concerns
      * Overpaid rich people who work overseas in Dubai or Singapore and can afford to keep their original Australian home empty for occasional visits.
      * Elderly people sick and in hospital or recuperation ward or nursing home. The old person has a lifetime of belongings in the house and hopes to get better and return home, but sadly they remain away for many months or years before dying.
      * House is inherited by children and they take some time to clear the house and decide what to do with it before fixing it up and selling it.
      * Rich Chinese buy property and keep it vacant as an investment.

There was a comment made of not putting the mentally ill, older persons and addicted all in one clump of social housing… Why are we not permitting smaller dwellings/tiny homes and working with developers to make it more affordable? Developers also need to put a cap on margins . Problem is volume, supply and tradies up skilling. We need to put a pause on migration to just repair. It is the real estate agents, false pricing in unison, artificial bump price.
No new houses built and why?

Awesome video to show the reality of the situation in down under! Australia is definitely rich enough to build affordable homes for everybody. It just needs to get the right politicians in government.

I feel sorry for renters. It's a zoo out there.

I know a few Australian homeowners and renters who have reach retirement age and would like to live overseas like Thailand, Bali, Vietnam, Europe and list goes on. The problem is the government has this rule that you have to receive two years pension in Australia before moving overseas to get the pension. If they can scrape this and bring it back to 67 this would free up more rentals. Just a thought.
