Wholeheartedly agree. Been carrying my manix 2 lightweight in maxamet for over a year now. I reprofiled mine to a convex edge, and she stays screaming sharp.
I like maxamet because it’s super fun. If you mirror polished it then the next day it would start to look gray. it’s not tough at all and it rusts and chips ridiculously easy and is very difficult to sharpen but when it’s all cleaned up the edge feels like it wants to bite you because carbides fall out of it like crazy and it actually adds to the burr
I've never had any of these things happen, carbides don't fall out of steel, that's not possible. And it's not difficult to sharpen you just have to use diamonds, no it's not a tough steel but it's not supposed to be
Easily on of my favorite knives ever. Got one last year after visiting steamboat springs. Wanted to visit Golden and checkout the factory store, but ended up missing the chance.. so getting on the plane back to Florida i ordered that exact knife from DLT trading.
Cool, but it's brittle so unless your just slicing cardboard in a very dry atmosphere it's not ideal. Tip snaps easy, very prone to corrosion etc.. cool knife though

Meanwhile My S&W cp404 in 7cr17mov hair popping sharp: 😬 Not/never saying its better, just works for me without needing insane cost or insane DMT stone solutions to keep an edge. I own a CM154 and that still considered Low grade 😂
I hope Spyderco releases models with REX-121 eventually. I understand it’s extremely chippy but if they can dial in the heat treat it will dethrone Maxamet.
121 does have better edge retention which is insane, buy in order for it to have that insane edge retention it's not going to be tough, but it's not supposed to be, as long as it's used for cutting purposes only it should be fine. Also the kind of edge you put on can help
