Oh, and how could I forget the complete disaster that is the civ 5 world congress. They took the base-game civ4 UN, which sucked, fixed it in Civ4 Beyond the Sword, and then made it 20x worse in civ 5 than it ever was in civ 4.
One of the first and only civ5 multiplayer games I was in was completely ruined by one guy who got the patronage ideas and completely monopolized the world economy because he maxed out influence with all the city states, which gave him several times more delegates in the world congress than literally everyone else in the game combined, and the used them to place trade embargoes on literally every other country in the world, so nobody except him could use trade convoys. This is despite the fact that I had managed to get my population higher than his and all his city-states combined.
He effectively disabled a game feature for everyone else on the server and none of us could do anything about it. There is no way to defy resolutions even though 90% of the world’s population was under a trade embargo.
Sorry for the rant but It’s to this day the most frustrating and unpleasant game experience I’ve ever had.
PS: We couldn’t just declare war on him to get him to screw off because on top of him having all the city-states, he started on an island and played as England. English Ships-of-the-line are probably the biggest pile of BS in any game ever and made him impossible to invade until I researched submarines, and by the time I did he had already destroyed basically every single coastal city in the map. I cannot describe how angry this one game of civ5 made me.
