  • Using the Fisher 1265x field test and deep silver dug. Live digs using this vintage machine ....... I'am impressed with the depth and its easy to use. It will hang with any of the big boys today no problem and its almost 30 years old ! I guess detecting technology really hasn't gone to far has it !

Hey Jeremiah, I wanted to thank you for posting your Fisher 1265X videos. I have found them very helpful. I started metal detecting back in the early 1980's as a teenager with a Garrett Deep Scan TR-Discriminating unit that I still have and that still works very well. I have pulled many thousands of coins over the decades and after a long period of child raising, recently dug it out of the closet and started detecting again. While searching a local school yard I was approached by a young father who said he had found a Fisher 1265X at a garage sale, in a box... basically unused. With his new family commitments he no longer had time for the hobby and asked me if I wanted to try it, so I did. Although it was produced in '86 and isn't a lot younger than the one I already had, it is a different technology so I wanted to give it a go. Your very positive videos encouraged me to go ahead and buy it from the man, which I did. I have been using it with success but am still learning to tell the difference in signals. I've dug a TON of aluminum slaw which to me almost always sounds like a really good signal on this unit, but have also found a lot of coins, too. I have no doubt the 1265X is detecting the signals. The machine WORKS! What I am wondering is, do newer models offer any TRUE and SIGNIFICANT advantage? Is it worth spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a new, modern unit, when I have this excellent, older model (assuming I'm coin shooting on dry land for the most part)? I'm not wealthy, so I don't want to pay for bells and whistles if they don't add to the success rate or dramatically improve the experience. However, I might be willing to splurge on something significantly better that reduced the amount of time digging up garbage; anything to save wear and tear on my knees. What is your opinion on that as I have not been able to try a modern unit like the Fisher F75 or Garrett AT Pro, Minelab X-Terra 705 or any of the many more expensive units $$$. Most of the online videos don't compare modern units with vintage units. Thoughts?

I learned on this very machine, and found hundreds of deep silver coins with her... found a silver nickel at 10", no problem. Nice to see someone still swinging it!

Nice review on the 1265x. I bought one of these machines in the 80's and found a lot of civil war relics with it. Fisher is a quality detector, always has been. In 2005 i bought a 1270x and its a super machine as well. I live in NC its sandy soil and you can get good depth. Great machines good price easy to use what more can you ask for. Thanks for making excellent videos, I always learn something from them...

Do You think the 1266 is deeper than 1265? Also is the modulation the same as 1265? Been using CZs for Years, But never a 1200 Machine.

The 1265 x and 1266 x have no difference in the depth.

If not fixed...it's possible only the wire's, I have brought 5 with this problem. Corrosion is the main problem..just re-wire and solder.
