Hey Sarah, you probably already know this, but you can use an empty spice jar with a shaker top insert when planting these tiny seeds. I find with as much as I plant, it is faster and much more uniform in spacing than using my fingers. Can't wait to see your crops growing. We are also living the keto lifestyle and feel so much better than we used to. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
This last spring I mixed a variety of lettuces, radishes, Swiss chard, rutabaga, spinach in a bowl then just sprinkled it in to one of my raised beds. It was AMAZING! Highly recommend trying this.
I saw the wheelbarrow comment. I also use buckets but at my age I use 2 buckets half filled to balance the loads. If I have a huge amount to move then put filled buckets into mu garden wagon...holds 5 buckets filled. My garden wagon is quite old now, 30-40 years with a wide wheelbase, and has move everything for me from concrete, 600 pound boulders for the pond and yerd, sand, wood for the stove, soil, oh so many uses. I could not exist without it.
I have used Nappa cabbage in stir-fry for a noodle like texture. I used the top part for that to get more veggies in the food for the kids. Just an idea.
My Brother-in-law raises beef cattle and we managed to score about 18 of those mineral tubs. No green house here in Michigan yet, but really looking forward to using them next Spring. BTW I truly enjoy your RUclips channel. May God bless.
Sara and Kevin, My friends and mentors, just sending you a whole bunch of Love and serious appreciation!! Just sent you a whole new group of new foundlings , home stead families who will Love your teaching and farming, milk cow family members as well!! I am thrilled for them that I could introduce you two to my dear friends! What exciting times to see my dear ones grow and learn from you guys!! So, love love love you and thanking you again for your service to others through the Lord’s work, and gift of cultivation, preserving and happy hard work of farm life in general! It IS the future, living in the Traditions of home stead life❣️ God Bless my dears, I’ve NEVER missed an episode in all these years from your beginning of this beautiful journey! Hugs and appreciation ❣️
I love MIgardener seeds. Only place I order from. I put in an order on the 1st of this month at their 2024 seed kickoff and got them in the mail by the 4th. I was like a kid at Christmas opening the envelope to look at them all.
Maybe this has been answered but do you no longer use Baker Creek? I'm homebound so live the lifestyle through you going back to your beginning on RUclips. My how this site has grown in sharing the lifestyle and your gained knowledge and willing to share. I'm 81 now so I'm a couch gardener.❤
All lettuce is good, but I read that green has more vitamin and minerals than red. Flavors vary. All is good and the best of luck with your winter crops. Thanks.
Sara and Kevin, ( not sure if I spelled your names correctly 😊) you two sooooooo inspire me! You both work so well together, sharing the workload as do my husband and I. I truly enjoy watching your videos. There is a feeling of true love and appreciation for the work, each other and, especially, Abba God that you both just glow with it!! You are a beautiful couple, and I simply love your hair, Sara!! And, Kevin, your gentle voice is so refreshing to hear! You are a truly Godly man, and it is absolutely evident that you love your wife. The same goes for you, as well, Sara. I also love your t-shirts!! Blessings to you both!! And…thanks for sharing!!🙏🏻📖⚔️💥🥰
No broccoli/cauliflower/cabbage this fall/winter? Whenever I planted lettuce, I would buy a bunch of varieties of green and red, and then add in some arugula and frisee. I mixed all the seeds together and sprinkled them all to sow. I loved the surprises of everything growing together and the rainbow of colors in my containers. I don't garden now, so I avidly watch to see what comes up in your containers!
You can grow 9 of the pak choi in each tub. Hopefully we'll get the heater fixed in the GH tomorrow or my tomato plants are toast. We're getting a nice break in the weather this coming week so we'll finish putting the garden to bed till spring. Sad!! But already thinking and planning for next year. Thanks for sharing. God bless and protect.
Fantastic! I wish in northern Michigan I could do a winter garden but even with my greenhouse- I cannot - unless I heat it. I’m not willing to pay for that extra electricity. I’d rather keep my freeze dryer going.
Thanks for sharing with us Kevin and Sarah, that will be an awesome winter garden that you two just planted. Looking forward to seeing you harvest it before long. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.
Have you tried the quick growing kohlrabi ready in 45 days? We use it for potatoes too and love it even more than turnips. What about broccoli and cauliflower or cabbage? We raised them in our unheated hoop house successfully. We've even done celery and then FD extra. We're keto and love them all.
I'm kind of surprised that you're not including other things like spinach, kale, swiss chard, and radishes with your fall planting. I love your sprinkler system in the greenhouse. Can't wait to see how everything turns out.
MindyCollier, I am curious what growing zone you are in to grow radishes and Swiss chard? Do you have a heated greenhouse? My green house is NOT heated and I have had no luck sprouting in Winter... it dips too cold at night often 20 degrees... most plants either go into hibernation or die at those temps.
Consider selling those buckets. On the east coast, we don't have anything like them for growing. You could wrap them in plastic and slap a shipping label on them. Nice and easy!
I'm growing all winter in GA. I'm not growing anything you are though. I was going to go with rutabaga, but they didn't come up..0 germination. I'm growing broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, elephant garlic, Swiss chard, Brussels sprouts, parsley and persistent weeds, mostly rhizome grass.
I wish they could hear us as we yell at them while we watch. Also start at the furthest tub, so that when you are tired at the end of the project you have less steps to take.
I just spent all day yesterday planting seeds and transplants for my winter garden and several tubs of different types greens for my chickens and ducks to enjoy as treats through the winter. Great minds think a like!!! Love your videos!!!
I thought you might have emptied all your buckets into that pile so that you get a mix or life and add all your cold compost (rabbit bits) to blend over winter.
Love your video! Thanks for the info! This year I grew daikon radishes for the time they grow pretty fast and there huge. There also great for a potato substitute. Have a good one and God bless!😊
You need a little tractor, a small little tractor with a little wagon or something and you fill up a bunch of those and bring them in and dump them and go back so that you don’t have to carry them! That’s how I got a hernia! So, please be careful😊
You actually don't have to fill the containers all the way up. You only need enough in the container for the roots of the particular plant in the pot. It looks nicer filled up. But it's also more expensive and just not necessary.
Happy Saturday Kevin and Sarah ❤❤ We have crazy weather too ,I'm done with planting till spring 😀 but I enjoy watching winter gardening with you both 😀 Much love from Toledo OH ❤❤ 18:00
🫶 thank you for displaying the varieties that you will be planting in your fall garden to the see the name of the variety and the picture helps a ton in my decision making for my own garden.
I'm looking outside and thinking I should do some planting, too. Then I remember it's mid November and I live in Minnesota. We're supposed to get into the +60's this week which is really unusual. I might have to plant a few turnip seeds indoors to see how they do😊
As always, fantastic video 👏 I am surprised, though, at how late you are able to plant these vegetables with how little daylight we get. I can't wait to see it all grow Thank you
Do consider planting a whole mineral bucket chives and letting the bulbs mature over the course of a year or so. Chives take time compared to some of the annual produce, pretty easy, and are incredibly hardy. Place them in a little shade and in the path of rain run off to enable them to naturalize about the property, under roses, in orchard areas, in horticultural plantings, and more. They do great things for the soil, worms love to live under and around them, aphids and a number of other pests shy away from them, bees love them, and if youve found a place they are happy in you only need to water them every 2 to 3 weeks during a drought.
Looks great guys! Great choice of seeds for winter growing. Can I suggest, Tatsoi as a great winter crop that works well as cut and come again or as a full head. Its so vigilant to winter temps. Also, since you like reds, beets grown for the greens can handle the winter cold. I've had great production with these in my cold frames here in Boston over the winter. Enjoy the laid back life of winter farming.
Hi Guys, when you were filling up the buckets and carrying the soil, I kept thinking why didn't you use a wheelbarrow, you could of filled it up high and no stress on the back 😍🥰😍
I do the same thing they do. It's the difference of shoveling once and getting to just dump it in the container once you pack it over. I fill up buckets and use a garden cart to move the buckets. But being able to just dump them instead of using the shovel again is a great bucket perk.
Yes, less shoveling. That’s harder on the body than carrying the buckets. And in the end it’s less mess of spilled dirt. It’s also faster because navigating around the greenhouse with a wheelbarrow would be difficult and take more time.
Good morning Kevin and Sarah!🤩 The weather has been crazy here too(MN). Our frost date was a full month late. And this week we will be in the 50's and 60's! The giant sugar maples in the yard still are not done dropping leaves! To have fresh greens in the winter is wonderful! What we do not realize is that uncooked food is so important for our bodies because of the living enzymes in the plants. I lost a lot of weight eating keto and mostly raw veggies and had wonderful skin. I was well into my 50's and people thought I was 40!😁 TK & GB😇😍
This question is for both of you. I recently watch a video from self sufficient me and it was about the top tools needed for gardening. Well thats in Australia. Wondering what do you two find to me your most important tools? Thank you
I remember when you switched your sprinkler heads to the ones that spray when fully charged. I tried to find that video to see where you bought the sprinklers but I couldn't find it. Can you please tell me where you purchased them? Thank you and God Bless!!🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾
Got all my fave varieties of lettuce except butter crunch and Paris island! Don't know what's keto but would think you'd do kale onions carrots and radishes too in greenhouse.
I have cabbage and kale plants in containers, cabbage plant is slow growing. Ive been garden going on 2 years, brainstorming about potatoes and sweet potatoes. What would you advise a less experienced gardener?
Could you please do a video on that irrigation system for those tubs? I use those same kind of tubs, but can't get the watering part done right. Seems like its either way too much or not nearly enough. I have my drain holes on the sides, but I have small holes, I notice you have large holes. Is that important???
I plant almost exclusively in mineral tubs. I fill them about 1/3 to 1/2 full with tree branches, organic matter, and soil out of my chicken pen. Then top it off with a potting soil/compost mixture. It's easier to manage moisture than in a raised bed and eliminates the need to try to loosen our clay filled soil.
When I plant my tomatoes in pots the whole bottom of the pot is filled with roots. I kinda sift all of the roots out and then fill it up with new potting mix, etc. They don't seem to decompose over winter.
We live on top of a hill with lots of wildlife in our woods (deer). I set up a unique raised bed garden area. I have had NO success growing lettuce. On Prime day in July I purchased a Hope Garden countertop garden and had such great success I bought a second one. We did not buy any salad lettuce until last week. I have new seeds sprouting right now in both Hope Gardens I wanted them both on the same schedule as far as their lighting routine. These countertop gardens are great if you want your own salad greens but no space to grow. They actually work. I even got one lipstick pepper from the one seed I started but the plant was just too big. I'm going to stick with salad greens.
That info about the turnips and rudibaga is interesting. When or if you make them into a recipe, would you do a video on it? Would love to know how you do it. I have never used them like that. Love the winter planting. Cant wait to see how it does.
I'm so sorry but I must share my story about MI Gardener- when he began selling seeds- I was one of his growers. I grew out and sold him glass gem corn seeds as one of the original sellers. He bought 2 small orders, and then year 2 put in a very large order. We had a price and I filled it. This corn is 120 days seed to harvest- plus dry time and labor to harvest. He decided when the order was ready to ship he did not want it- he had found a cheaper supplier- whom I was aware was far less quality- yes, my mistake for not having a contract but I thought Luke was a stand up handshake guy. Buyer BEWARE> his seeds are so cheap because he buys outdated seeds. He is nothing but a middle man. I will never stop sharing my story- even after nearly 10 years.
Hi kids,if you had insulated the ground inside the green house it would be really nice, just trench around the perimeter 2ft deep and cut 4x8sheets of Styrofoam board insulation leaving inch or so above ground, this should work ok because you should be insulated below the frost line, enjoy
How long will your plants last in an unheated greenhouse? I live in NE Missouri, zone 5b. Gets cold and I've thought of doing this as well. Already have the greenhouse, my mineral tubs are outside around the yard. I only have a small greenhouse, 10' x 20' and shelves in there as well.
I grow lots of lettuce in a big bed and in pots. Heirloom and ordinary. I just pick leaves off each one for continual mixed salad. Do you ever grow parsnips? They are delicious.
Sarah,I love your hair. So many people are afraid to show any gray,It is going to happen to all so why not go with the flow..Good for you Sarah..
I had long hair, took me 16 months total to grow out my silver! So glad I did it! Love it! And no more poison hair dye!
I love her hair.

I love the way you and Kevin work together, good luck with your winter planting. I watch you all the time.
Lol I’m glad I’m not the only one who wants to garden despite the weather.
We used to move so much compost and dirt around.... the best purchase I ever made was the bucket for my tractor.
Try radishes for a potato substitue, you will be amazed
Got my seeds, used your link! Thank you, GOD bless
I have used Nappa cabbage in stir-fry for a noodle like texture. I used the top part for that to get more veggies in the food for the kids. Just an idea.

Thank you for ALL your good teaching!! I love the Merlot Lettuce, deep burgundy color. God Bless you, Kevin, and family!
The greenhouse is amazing and your knowledge on how to make the best of it. Thank you for sharing
I did a mystery purchase of seeds a couple years ago. It makes you try new stuff. I got my seeds from MI Gardener.

You are an amazing couple! I am so impressed, best wishes for all your fall veggies!
I believe you have a drill bit auger for planting , FYI they work fantastic to mix in amendments like adding compost to pots

I'm having the same weather in North Mississippi. I will be planting lettuces and rutabagas today in my greenhouse. Thanks for the timely tutorial.

A winter garden sounds great the vegetables you picked sound even better I hope they well for you
While you may have heard of this particular cabbage variety by a number of names, pak choi and bok choy are the same plants.
Thanks for sharing with us Kevin and Sarah, that will be an awesome winter garden that you two just planted. Looking forward to seeing you harvest it before long. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.

Your hair is so elegant, nothing more beautiful than a natural woman.🥰🥰
Carry two buckets at a time to keep your body balanced. Easier on your shoulders and back. Fill them less full if needed.
I wish they could hear us as we yell at them while we watch. Also start at the furthest tub, so that when you are tired at the end of the project you have less steps to take.
What an excellent suggestion. We all have ergonomic issues.
I just spent all day yesterday planting seeds and transplants for my winter garden and several tubs of different types greens for my chickens and ducks to enjoy as treats through the winter. Great minds think a like!!! Love your videos!!!
Love your videos Sarah and Kevin, always a busy day for you two
Watching the seedlings grow my favorite part of growing vegetables
Thank you Kevin & Sarah. Prayers. God Bless you all in Love. Lets go home soon ! Maranatha ! ( shared to f/b )
Always enjoy watching your videos when you’re working on the farm. Just curious and would like an update on the pigs and milk cows. 💕
I thought you might have emptied all your buckets into that pile so that you get a mix or life and add all your cold compost (rabbit bits) to blend over winter.
LOVE YOU GUYS!
Love your video! Thanks for the info! This year I grew daikon radishes for the time they grow pretty fast and there huge. There also great for a potato substitute. Have a good one and God bless!😊
Being from Michigan it's good to see you using Migardener seeds!
And they are the best. They also do you tube videos. I have learned so much from them.

Great video.
I absolutely LOVEEEEE young boc choy! I grill it in my George Forman grill and top it off with seasoned olive oil! So healthy and super yum!
You have the most beautiful things happening with your hair.
God Bless!!
Happy Saturday Kevin and Sarah ❤❤ We have crazy weather too ,I'm done with planting till spring 😀 but I enjoy watching winter gardening with you both 😀
Much love from Toledo OH ❤❤ 18:00
I can't wait to see how fast they grow.
Good afternoon! Absolutely love your green house!! Cant wait ti see your sprouts!!
Always put one foot in front of the other good luck with your garden
A+ Content- Green House coming along nicely
Have you tried roasted radishes? They are great!
Thank you guys for taking time out of your busy day to share your wonderful videos.
Yes, pak choi is my favorite of the choys. Good choice. 😊
I might have to plant a few turnip seeds indoors to see how they do😊
Awesome! Will look forward to see your garden grow!
As always, fantastic video 👏 I am surprised, though, at how late you are able to plant these vegetables with how little daylight we get. I can't wait to see it all grow
Thank you
Sarah, please keep us posted how they are doing.
Our weather is like that too it's so silly how the weather is . Can't wait to see what the harvest is . 😊
Looks great guys! Great choice of seeds for winter growing.

Love bok choy. Great in salad as well as cooked. I learned to stagger the plantings a tad for my needs. Your lettuce assortment is wonderful.

It hasn't rained for a while- that compost pile will probably be pretty dry and light...
@@LivingTraditionsHomesteadThank you for giving me the reason why you do it that way ♥️💙
They probably want the excercise!
No Spinach? I’m surprised, because it is so delicious fresh cut in salads!
Maybe because it's high in oxilates?
Planting a seed is always about hoping and believing for what you cannot see … not what you see.
We are receiving a Big dump truck load of compost from Hansen's tomorrow !❤
That is awesome!
I tried the LTH10 at MIGardener and it isn't working. Just thought I would let you know. Thanks for all the videos!
did not work for me either

Well, that’s too bad. It seems like a better option would be to forgive and let go of it. Doesn’t he get heavy carrying him around for 10 years?!
A tractor bucket to the greenhouse door would be easier on the back as well. Where are your rabbits? Do you still raise them, or have you stopped?
Hi kids,if you had insulated the ground inside the green house it would be really nice, just trench around the perimeter 2ft deep and cut 4x8sheets of Styrofoam board insulation leaving inch or so above ground, this should work ok because you should be insulated below the frost line, enjoy
Hi Kevin and Sarah,
Where can I get some of those buckets?
I think you have to know a generous cattleman!
Do you have your other greenhouses? Did you bring them from your old homestead??
