    I've been using the compact to solo acoustic gig in rooms of about 50 for years. It's been great. Portability: compared to the dual Mackie arm 450s on stands was worth the price alone. Reliability: never had an issue using multiple times a week for ten years. Sound: frequently get compliments on how good it sounds. Versatility: So here is where the L1 compact is slightly lacking and seems to be a "Bose thing" they give you great sound and quality components and construction. But they seem to, (what I can only assume is on purpose) leave out some of the simpler things. Like a basic reverb that would make a more complete package. I mean it is called the compact. Well it is... But now I have to bring separate effects, cords, power strip etc. Adding bulk, set up, and external processing noise and cost.
    So long story short I settled on buying the Bose tone match T1 to get a strickly bose shaped sound for guitar and vocals. So while it was shipping I'm viewing RUclips reviews to justify and come across your vids on the S1. So thanks! I canceled the T1 bought the S1 and love it!
    I used it for the first time out last night in a room probably 50/60. I wasn't sure what to expect even though I'd been loving it at home. So I bought my L1 in case. Set up both, ran into the S1 and out to the L1. Basically using the S1 as mixer and speaker but if I needed more volume I could just turn up the L1. Well I was very satisfied with way the S1 filled the room with a well refined and classic Bose style sound. It's like it sounds more like "Bose" than the L1 does. If that makes sense. I didn't need to turn up the L1 at all, in fact when I did experiment with turning it up it seemed to take away from the refined sound I was enjoying from the S1. What's more is ran the S1 on the battery for the whole show, three hours non stop. Didn't need to but I wanted to know that it would. That will definitely help when the place your playing has few outlets and the ones that it has have bad grounds or a neon Heineken sign plugged in...
    OH, and as for Bose seemingly purposefully leaving you wanting just a little more... Could you possibly have included fantom power? Oh well maybe in ten more years. Seems like Bose and Apple share the same incremental improvement strategy.
    PS. Hmm battery powered speaker+wireless guitar and headset mic =... Rock n roll guitar aerobics class in the park!! 🎸🎸🎸😅😅🤘🤘🤘

      I just got two of these Bose S1's for Father's Day and I love them. They are just for home use, when I am lounging around playing old playlists from my old 3rd generation iPod mp3 player. Anyway, do you know if there is a dual channel Bluetooth (Left Channel, Right Channel) device that is made so I can transmit left and right sound to the auxiliary ports on each S1 speaker for a true stereo sound? There is a Bose App that works on newer devices, but my iPod is outdated and won't download the App. Oh and I have a pair of old Klipsch Chorus 3 Main Speakers with several Klipsch surround, center, and Subwoofer speakers that are ran off an old Yamaha rx2090 receiver that i got in 1992 and these new Bose speakers really rock. I will for sure be looking into more of the Bose line of speakers in the future. Any advice would be welcomed.

      I did an outdoor show. I had recently replaced my batteries in the S1's. with backing tracks with bas drums etc. I was doing 6 hrs. yes it was chilly out. but I got 5 hrs and 55 mins LOL. Might get longer with just guitar and vocals but having to drive lower frequencies eats some power...

    Great comparison! I had two L1 Compacts and sold them to get two Yamaha StagePas 600i systems to rent them out. Side by side I think the Yamaha StagePas sounded better than the Bose L1 Compact. I Bought two Bose S1 Pro(s) as a small lightweight PA to use instead of the Yamaha StagePas since I am doing a one man band now. I did a side by side comparison of the Bose S1 Pro(s) with the Yamaha StagePas and the Bose blew the Yamaha away for sound fullness and clarity. I never got to do a comparison of the Bose L1 Compact and the Bose S1 Pro so your video scratched that itch and thanks to you now I know.

    I normally don't like listening to or watching speaker reviews on RUclips as obviously you can't really hear another speaker through your laptop or phone speaker, but I felt that there was a big difference in clarity between the S1 and L1 Compact. The S1 sounds really great, and for the size, you can't beat it.

  • @DJJASProductions
    @DJJASProductions 6 лет назад +14

    Compact sounds fuller, as it should-- it's got a bigger woofer for bass, bigger, and the array is much bigger. S1 sounds really good but thin in the upper mids and midbass compared to L1.
    For mobile use, the L1 compact makes more sense as it sounds better, gets louder, and can extend the top array.

    I have both. Portability go anywhere anytime the S1 pro has become my favorite. But reaching the surroundings I still love the compact. The compact is awesome. So I find myself connecting the S1 to the compact and I virtually never use my L1 model2 or my F1s . Great speakers. All of them. It all depends on what I need and it is nice to be flexible and the Bose line of equipment has allowed me to be that and not break my back(but I can’t say that about my bank account though). I do wish that the F1 could do what it does and be totally portable like the S1 with battery, Bluetooth and EQ. 😊

    I played live with battery powered traynor tvm 50's. I am lucky I got extended warranties because the batteries had to be replaced every 2 years. I bought them a year apart so every year I took 1 in. The bose s1 came out and I listened in store and bought 1. First gig I had a traynor and a bose. bose set flat traynor with treble almost zero and bass max and the bose killed it. I bought another bose shortly after and sold the traynors. I had a gig promoter show up to a gig recently and he was asking where my sub was LOL. I use a ketron sd40 for my backing band and I run a flat response and a stereo setup with a couple s1's. I have done 8 hrs of music on mine with zero problems. Many of my musician friends have switched to bose s1's after hearing mine. I did a festival opening for a couple bands a few weeks ago (I am a one man band). I had to help them put the massive PA speakers on stands... the band after me asked if I was plugged into the pa... nope. half volume on these little guys. you can go ahead and plug in I don't need your 400 lb pa. last band said they are getting some bose now

    I have both and L1 and an S1. The only thing I don't like about the S1 is having to control the volume for the tracks from the laptop as the speaker itself is too far away to use the volume knob on it while you are actually playing. Same with the microphone. I hook the L1 to a Tonematch 4 so that solves it with the L1. If you hook the mixer to the S1 it uses up one of the channels you need for guitar or vocal.

  • @NormStrauss

    Bose L1 is best heard with speaker extension. Separates the lows and mids from the highs and gives a much better sound. If you ad the tonematch T1 mixer to the L1 than it's no contest. L1 is much better sounding. I have toured with this system for years now.

    Este tipo de teste serve apenas para ter alguma noção de timbre das caixas. As duas são de categorias diferentes, se você medir uma bose L2 ou compact de perto com outras caixas a bose perde fácil. O show dela está na distancia. A S1 vai morrer a 10 metros e a Compact vai estar linda. A L2 de perto com um caixa de 134 db toma um banho, mas vai dar uma volta a uns 20 metros que vc vai ver o que uma bose L2 pode fazer.

    My first pro speaker was/is a JBL Eon One. Man it is big and heavy! But the sound it puts out is just fabulous. Fully balanced sound, so rich. I got an S1 Pro in June this year. Amazing given how compact and light it is. Bass is surprisingly deep, sometimes too much so. For listening to a variety of music I love my JBL and super for karaoke. The S1 Pro is great to take to friends homes for parties. Last week I used the S1 Pro on stage as a stage monitor and it did a great job...so nice not needing a power cord.
    Oh one last thing. In 2016 I listened to the L1 compact and found the Eon One much better. But without a mixer its volume is low.
    Bottom line if you want just one speaker for music or karaoke or to perform for 50 people, get the S1 Pro.

    How is the bass on S1 compared to L1?

  • @steviejames3343
    @steviejames3343 5 лет назад

    Good review well worth watching if looking to purchase.L1 has a much more balanced sound.Bass is good but muddy on both and clarity is questionable on both at the price point.L1 is better which id expect at the difference in price but if just wanted for playback i’d be buying the s1.S1 would be ok for busking which is why i was looking but tbh there is much better gear out there for the same money and less.Bit like the headphones good but over priced especially at UK prices.

      HappyRider Reviews yeah you use the S1 sorta as a mixer...I have the whole L1 compact set up AND the tone match...but I was never happy with the tone match..so this way works great...plus Im getting the LD SYSTEM Maui 5 go fully battery next week...depending on how it sounds I may do the same with that and the S1.
      I gig almost 1 hour a day like 4 or so times a week and need to set up break down . No wires no plugging in..fast. So well see how this works
      Ill keep you posted.
      Thanks

    The L1 still handle frequencies close to 50hz better than the S1. But it is still a good buy is you’re not pushing 100 people.

    L1 sound much better, much louder, more bass , with the sound it should even reach much farther than s1 ever could, but it lack mobility without battery support... and functionality of reverb... but as far as sound go.. L1 is much better

      I have been running the output from the S1 over to L1 input. This sounds AMAZING thanks to the built in tone match on the S1. So if you have both, give this a try! Especially for vocal, this combo is amazing!

      @@HRR thank you so much for the swift reply. i am just concerned about the bass, if we compare it with L1C, but the s1 pro has its own advantages, it has got bluetooth, portable and can be paired easily. it will give me stereo sound as well as i am buying two.

    • @HRR
      @HRR  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, those are all good points about the S1. The built in tone match on the S1 is also amazing. The L1 does have more bass than the S1, however, not by much if you’re using 2 S1. Getting a small sub would definitely implement it and have them sound better than the L1.

    Listening with headphones, the S1 Pro sounds a little mid-range heavy, a little muddier than the L1, which makes it sound just a little deader.

    I knew the great BOSE era, the 802, the made in the USA, really fabulous and legendary. Here it breathes, it stinks of made in china. Research done, BOSE does not have a factory in China, it is all under contract and tootmuch expensive compared to the cost of labor.
