I almost feel like crying watching this video, how a nation can be destroyed by ignorance.I have always said the same things about farming, but most Nigerians dont like to hear it,maybe until they travel to europe and America and realise oyibo are actually the biggest farmers.Even government mandating every home to plant a fruit tree in their yard would transform Nigeria.When we were in primary school then we did not know what hunger was because most of the houses on our way to school then had one fruit tree or the other.lt was always free food on the way back from school,from bush mango(ogbono ) to pear (ube) etc.l was shocked recently when l saw someone on youtube buying papaya in Nigeria.😀When l was in Nigeria nobody even planted papaya,it grows freely,willingly on it own in our backyard,all we had to do is pluck when ready and eat.😅 Today,Nigeria is talking about hunger yet they are surrounded by one of the best arable lands in the world.Fruit trees in every house and cities would also mean healthy and fit people/nation,less flooding and erosion, beautiful towns and city,less dependent on foreign import,appreciation in the value of naira. Same thing is happening in infrastructures, Nigeria has one of the worse roads yet rounded by the best granite stones most countries would wish they have access to.What is stopping federal government from blowing up some of these granite for the best road construction l may never know.When the bible declared my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge it is talking about Nigeria.Nature,God has blessed Nigeria with everything good, no winter cold,no hurricane,no typhoons,no earthquakes just wonderful, glorious sunshine with rain to step it down when it gets hot,yet Nigerians and the leaders dont know what to do with it.Always wanting to import food which is even of lesser quality than the things that grows in your backyard for almost free.The more l think about Nigeria the more l shared tears! Who will enlighten our people,teach them that the deliverance they are looking for is inward?For the kingdom of God is within you says the lord.Not in the sky,not in the western world but within,inward.A bit off topic,sorry! 1000 likes for such a brilliant and thoughtful presentation about farming. Honestly it is borderline insane that some of our folks who have land will thumb their nose on farming and complain of hunger and being broke.
Why it is so overlooked these days beats me.
I don’t know why Africans complain of hunger with all that fertile soil. I don’t know any about farming but I tried to plant plantain in my backyard and within a few months started bearing fruits already and I was amazed.we have stop consuming all those china made processed food and grow what we eat.I agree with you 100%..
It's why I don't like the idea of these estates ..I really prefer living in a compound where I can plant stufff
I live in Canada and my husband is a gardener. He only puts in maybe 2-3 hours max each week and we don't buy spinach, basil, chives, oregano, etc in the summer. In the winter, he plants garlic and leaves it till July when he harvests it. We dont even have a huge garden and we havent bought garlic in years.
Those who live outside Nigeria recognize the importance of planting the basics more than people who live in the best climate for agriculture. The irony.

You're correct, Naira was stronger than Dollar and Pound sterling.... once upon a time. It was not the strongest currency in the world, but near enough.
At one stage, it was 56 kobo for $1.
FACT!!! I remember as a child it the 1980s going on holiday to London and my parents cashing out travellers cheques and we got more pounds sterling for Naira. As @Flo Finance said we don't taking farming seriously. Yes there are FHM security issues but it is worth doing. Personally apart from meat and other items most of my food is from my backyard and village farm.
Onochie FHM do not disturb farming in my village but walking through the village you will see lots of uncultivated lands. Some people don't have a good reason not to be farming. It's just that free handouts are easier for them to get.

Aunty Flo, something you forgot to mention is that with increased technology and globalization, farming is no longer sexy. My generation can barely take care of a balcony garden not to talk of farming a piece of land next door 😂
If they like let them be rating it unsexy, when real hunger waya them, dem go chop sexy. 😂 This year's hunger will be nothing compared to the one coming next year if people do not practice back-to-land this planting season.

@Alexander-sp6xd I'm not insensitive to your experience of marauding herdsmen who have been allowed to wander unchecked wreaking havoc of people's farms and lives.
This unfortunate phenomenon is a result of lack of security regulation by the government at all levels. Federal, state and local government to protect the farming industry especially in the southern regions with fertile arable land for farmers.
Agriculture is still the best investment for Nigeria to grow its economy .

People are still heavily invested in agriculture in Nigeria but the security issues, poor yields from lack of high yield inputs or machinery.
So, it is easy to sit in the comfort of your house in Europe and pontificate.
It'll be easier, as people are guided through the money market with examples, those invested in farming are taken to the farms for hands-on training on overcoming headers issues, getting affordable inputs, machineries, adding values to their products, preservation and access to a ready market.
So sad that you know all these yet not a single video about it on you channel. Why? You can't end at typing typing typing. Make videos to reach more people with that accurate information please!

Our government doesn’t support local equipment manufacturing they prefer foreign equipment hence our problem. The so called agricultural subsidies don’t get to the farmers. Until we solve our over 40 years of corruption and lack of vision of nation vision.

Thats not accurate. In the 70s Naira git really high coz he found oil and all the foreign investments made our currency really high however in the 80s, oil price slumped which drastically affered the Naira
Crop farming in Nigeria of today is a no go area. Don't even dream it, b/cos is a futile project. "Fulani herdsmen" will just use your farm as a grazing reserve🐂🐂🐂🐂.

Thanks for the inspiring content. Sister Flo, I enjoy your commentaries but sometimes, you minimise the root cause of these problems. Nigeria is not a nation free of external meddling. There're far more overarching reasons why the nation divested from agriculture but I understand why you shy away from the meaty points, you have to protect yourself and investments afterall. The nation is ran by clowns that are bolstered by external entities. The ppl haven't been given adequate education, which largely explains the lack of priorities and collective confusion. A sad state of affairs.
Edit: beautiful content as always! On a small scale for personal use, ppl can definitely do something with their immediate area. But on the larger long-term scale, that's where most of the problems sets in.
There's no way two people (you and I) will see things in perfectly the same way. Even twins have different perspectives on issues. So instead of waiting for me to say your mind all the time (because I think that's what you want from all your comments), set up a camera, say that your mind so that you can educate people. The more people set up their cameras to educate Nigerians, the better for all of us. I alone will not do all the work.

The 500% calculation is way too optimistic. You work abroad, so maybe you do not know the damage the herdsmen have caused to the Nigerian farming ecosystem in the 8 years Buhari was in power. Do you know how much farmers pay these bandits in protection money to be able to cultivate their land?
I addressed insecurity in this video. And that kind of insecurity is not everywhere in Nigeria. But as always, excuses must abound and there will always be people who would want to play the smart devil's advocate. Kontinu.
@@FloFinance Madam Flo no vex. I have farms in the North, and palm plantations in the SE and SS. I have confronted Fulani herdsmen several times. What I said does not come from a standpoint of excuses but personal experience of 10 years.
Again, I addressed insecurity in this video. Do not comment like you did not watch that part by telling me I work abroad etc etc. I know what is happening in Nigeria more than most people that live in Nigeria. I condole with you on what you are going through, our leaders are really failing us but again that kind of insecurity is not everywhere in Nigeria. It would not affect say a plot of land in an estate that is lying fallow. People can still farm in my part of Anambra State but they are not doing it as much these days, most people are looking for free handouts.
I addressed many people in this video so saying that I do not recognize the mayhem that herdsmen are causing does not follow. Rather you can contribute better to this video by sharing what measures you have taken such as contacting your representatives etc yet the issues persist. Your anger should be directed towards the government who swore to protect the citizens not me. We are all victims.
@@FloFinanceI watched a video of late Jerry Rawlings farming with women and participating in road construction as a president. Such things shape the mindset of young people on dignity in labour. But if leadership does nothing while people loot the treasury, or engage in banditry and collect millions from kidnapping with no consequence, most youths will not engage in farming that requires a lot of hardwork and delayed gratification.
The fact is the West has actually been reducing the farm operations and are now making it even harder for farmers to farm. Farmland in Canada is reducing by 3 farms per day. The West in abandoning farmland unfortunately and the governments are not supporting as they used to. Hopefully Africa will not follow in this pattern.
