My wife just ordered me one for my birthday. I knew this was an issue, but I didn't say anything to her, because I'm happy that she's looking for this kind of stuff. Glad I found this.
Awesome, a Star Wars birthday gift is definitely an excellent gift!! That’s very thoughtful of her and I’m glad that my video can be of service as well. It’s really a great vehicle 😃 I’ve been considering picking up a third actually.
@@ToysAreTheWay they're on sale for like $58 on prime
@@codyhoney9101 😎 I saw! That’s a pretty good deal
Great video. Worked for me. If it ever loosens up, I can "re-do"' easier than glue.
Awesome, I'm glad it helped! Exactly, it's simple and doesn't damage the vehicle. ✨✨✌️😎✌️✨✨
This is awesome. I just got this tie for the first time a few days ago and I’m glad I found your video. I did this “fix” before anything even broke. Little preemptive strike if you will. Thanks!
Nice!! You're absolutely welcome. Glad you were able to pick one up and avoid any of the nonsense haha. May the force be with you! ✨✌️😎✌️✨
So happy I found this video! Thanks!
Thanks so much for checking out a bunch of videos and supporting the channel, I really appreciate it! 😎😎
Excellent solution!
Thank!! Glad you think so, it's definitely a neat and simple solution! 😎😎😎
Awesome fix, thanks!!!
Anytime!! Glad I could be of assistance. This is the way ✨😃✨
I found your video this morning as my tie fighter had the same defeat. Awesome fix! And you saved my frustration.
Awesome!! I’m so glad I could help out and lessen the stress. It’s never a fun time when something goes wrong in the collection room 😎✌️
I can't believe (but I do) Hasbro didn't provide a fix for these cool tie fighters especially at $80 bucks. I bought 1 at regular price and a wing had broken. I returned it to Wal-Mart for an exchange of another and IT broke. I then watched a couple of reviews for it and realized it was a common problem. These are the best looking ties yet IMO, so when they finally went on clearance I picked up all I could find. Even if I had no remedy for the wing defect $19.87ea for clearance fighters was impossible for me to resist. I wonder if a spring with less tension would eliminate breakage of the retainer? I like your idea because it doesn't further damage the toy. Forcing the wings the opposite way is not an option in my book, you might as well use glue at that point. Great fix, simple, non damaging and effective. Thumbs-up on your videos. I dig and I'm subscribed. Keep up the good work!
I know, it’s very unfortunate. I don’t think Hasbro gets to reality check these issues the same way collectors do, with first hand experience seeing all the defects. Luckily there’s been great constructive feedback within the community, especially recently and we can only hope the next release can and will be improved 🙂
As for the look of them, I totally agree! They display wonderfully and for that clearance price they’re a must.
Once you get the spring out, you’ll notice they are VERY strong, so perhaps something with less tension and a better plastic retainer could eliminate the issue.
I’m so happy that this fix is being received well! There really needed to be a solution that wasn’t damaging and helpful to others within the community.
Thank you so much for the kind words and support! I really appreciate it!!! 😎😎😎
Can't thank you enough!! Honestly!
You’re absolutely welcome!! Im glad I could help! 😃😃😃
Subscribed! Absolutely unacceptable hasbro pulled this mess on us for $80. Glad I bought them at a quarter of the price.
Yeah it’s unfortunate for sure, I hope they can vastly improve the next tie fighter. Especially considering the price point. My wishlist vehicle is the Tie Defender from Rebels! That would be super cool!
I didn’t know this was a common problem and I had sadly put my TIE in storage and contemplated returning it. This is a simple but brilliant fix and you saved my fighter! Thank you for this!
Awesome!! I’m glad I could help! 😎 it’s such a great vehicle and display piece otherwise.
It’s definitely a wide spread problem with this release, which is mind boggling to think about how many broken ties there are out there. So it’s great seeing all the positive feedback from everyone who had given up on this tie fighter 🙂
love your hangar display !
Thanks a bunch!! ✌️😎😎✌️
Excellent video. Thank you
Thanks and no problem! Glad it was helpful. ✌️😁✌️
Worked on my tie interceptor in 2024, thank you!
Awesome!!! Glad it helped! ✌️😎😎✌️
Thank you. I will try this.
Awesome!! Good luck and I hope it works out for you! ✨👌😎🤘✨
Thank you for this. I bought one from a collector but it was in the box. Come to find out the latches were broken. I like the way you fixed which seems much better in my opinion. Thank you
😃 You’re absolutely welcome!! That’s such a shame that it was already broken, but I’m glad this video was able to offer a quick solution!! MTFBWY ✨
Worth every penny
Ah, thanks for this!! It’s a real shame this is a problem with these since, while I get most people probably find the spring wings unnecessary or a nuisance, I actually really like the feature.
😃 Anytime!!! I totally agree, it’s not a bad feature at all. Definitely a shame that it just causes more problems than enjoyment. Glad the video could offer you a solution and fix!
Nice job. Thanks for this. I just bought one on eBay for $25, listed as having the wings problem. I planned on just gluing them on (it'll be displayed only), but I'm gonna try this first. Cheers!
Awesome!!! It's an excellent fix, and I have never had any problems since making this video. Also, nice pick up for that price ✨🤘😁🤘✨
@@ToysAreTheWay thank you kindly. I didn't have the same materials you use in the vid and tried a few alternatives. I probably would have pulled it off with more time and effort, but as I am only displaying it, I took a shortcut and just removed the springs. It is a totally cool tie. Happy new year to ya!
I haven't put mine together yet so going to do this right away before my little tabs break off
Awesome, you won't be disappointed and it will display wonderfully ✨🤘😁🤘✨
Great idea! Thanks!
Thank you!!! Anytime, happy to help!! 🙂
I won one of those in the 70s off a contest on a box of cereal. One of the best thing i ever won.
Wow! That’s a very cool and awesome story! 😎
@@ToysAreTheWay the best part is that 6th grader me had totally forgotten about it in the 3 months it took for the prizes to be awarded. So it was x mas in the middle of summer for me.
@@yvc9 haha that’s great! Something exciting to occupy that time until the next holiday season!
Absolutely fantastic fix. Happened to mine too. I used the tape. But I will definitely remove the springs. Great job and wonderful how to!
Thank you! It was such a bummer when it happened to me, so I’m glad to help! 😎
Excellent video. I recently bought a Lucas film TIE which was in need of repair. Thankfully the hooks are still in place on the wing mounts so I have it now as it's supposed to be. But, should the mechanism self destruct, I now know how to deal with the problem - avoiding certain despair and misery.
Thank you! That’s so awesome to hear!! Glad that I can help, it’s definitely a traumatic experience when these wings give out haha.
Gracias !❤
De nada!! 😃✌️
Okay but can you make a video about shooting the cannons if you can I want to add to the playability
Thanks! just did mine!
Awesome!!! This is the way. ✨🤘😁🤘✨
@@ToysAreTheWay Worked on my VC interceptor as well!
I am definitely going to try this. Thanks for the tutorial!
Awesome!! You’re very welcome! It’s great knowing that it’s helping fellow collectors 😎
Nice video, I appreciate the work you put in. Mine isn't out of the box yet but I was wondering can the spring be removed even though my clips haven't broken off?
Thank you! You’re absolutely welcome! I really wanted to share a creative solution with the community and help out 😃
The fix works on both a broken or brand new tie fighter. I have a second vehicle fresh out the box that I removed the spring from and have had no issues!
@@ToysAreTheWay thanks for the response here and on the other video. I've just got finished building some shelves and now have space to display my fighter but I didn't want to deal with the wings falling off, so thank you for this video I will be trying it out.
I just had to hot glue my Scout Walker's legs so that it would stand unsupported by something. The vehicles are really awesome detail wise but the craftsmanship in them are sometimes questionable.
@@gafoxx263 😎 anytime! You’re very welcome and I’m always happy to help.
That sounds like an exciting start to fun collection display. I’m sorry to hear about your Scout Walker, I’ve heard similar stories over the years about the leg issues. Fortunately I’ve been lucky enough to have no standing issues with any of mine. It’s definitely tricky finding their center of gravity for the best stance, but somehow I’ve done it with no problems.
I like your channel keep. Good tip on the wing issue mine is still in the box...
Thank you, I really appreciate it! I’m happy to hear positive feedback, and hopefully it will be helpful if you decide to open it up :)
Very helpful
Awesome! Glad to be of help!! 😃😃😃
I just recently bought this fighter, got a great deal. As soon as I got mine I just took it apart and removed the springs that way, now everything holds together without any additional work. There's only 4 screws it takes about 5 minutes.
Nice! I tried the screws on both of mine and it still would not come apart, so perhaps something was different with your production run. ✨👌😃✌️✨
@@ToysAreTheWay yeah I had to pull pretty hard to actually get it to separate. Thinking about it now, with broken clips my method may not work. Mine are in tact.
Great idea for a fix!
Appreciate it!! I just couldn’t leave my fighter in that pile of wreckage haha 😎
Where did you those beautiful Star Wars wall panels
Hey there!! Krazy D Customs is a great supplier of walls, this is his online store! 👌😎✌️

🙂 You’re very welcome! I’m so happy the info has been helpful for collectors in the community
Thanks
Anytime! Happy to help 😀
Do you know of any 3d model designs for the wing clips?
I sadly do not have any leads on 3D model designs for that. Apologies!
I'm glad I only paid $40 at BBTS when this was available. The wings jumped off mine immediately after displaying. I just removed the springs and have had no problems since. The red plastic lazers on the front don't pop out and are stuck also. This blue tape method is what I had to do to Poe Dameron's landing gear.
There are several at this store where i live going for 50 bucks each and brand new too
Wow that’s pretty cool, not a bad vehicle for that price! 😎
I just did this to both ,and you didn’t mention that the buttons are just down, I tried putting paper for it to stay up but look awkward once the wings are fully inserted. I remember when it first happened 😂 , _o_ . Luckily these were Walmart clearance. The white ones from Target are still intact tho from all these years .
Yeah, the ship & box were great! Too bad, they never beefed up the ejecting mechanism when they beefed up the wings. lol
I'm gonna have to give your trick a try.
Absolutely! It’s not a bad feature, just wasn’t thought out or tested very well for this release 😎
Awesome, I hope it works and is successful! ✌️
It's a great looking tie fighter for sure, most screen accurate to date. However Hasbro has always been lazy to update their functions, for tie fighter and xwing sfoils.
Totally, I sometimes wonder if it is just not worth their time and effort. Obviously we would truly appreciate the proper updates to an X-Wing or Tie Fighter, but I am also not surprised that Hasbro uses the existing mold out of convince and practicality.
I would love to see a better tie or tie defender some day ✨✌️😎✌️✨
Thanks so much man! Just went to take my tie fighter off display and the wings wouldn’t snap back in. So I started freaking out for a second like “oh crap is it broken?”
But now the wings aren’t popping off thanks to this tutorial you made 🫡
Awesome!! I'm glad the video helped out!! I know the feeling when stuff seems like it's broken for good, I definitely had that moment when this initially happened. ✨😃✌️✨
@@ToysAreTheWay Frfr worst feeling ever 😩
Just an FYI on my 1983 Tie the springs need to rotate clockwise
Oh interesting! Thanks for that info 👌😃✌️
The wings pop of to keep pilots from defecting with there tie fighters to the rebellion (cartoon rebels)
😂😂😂 oh yeah, the kill switch. That will take care of those traitors!
Why use an exacto knife at all? Use the scissors & cut in the center if the tape once wrapped around.
This fix is flexible, and nothings set in stone. I just used what I thought was best in that moment 👍
It's the cheaper plastics that Hasbro is using. It would be nice if they used either metal or better plastics to make that gimmick work. I only paid $40 for mine, but my Fighter only lasted a month before mine failed.
I agree, that plastic can not handle the spring tension, but sadly I don't see Hasbro going out of their way to spend the money needed for metal clips inside. Glad you were able to pick one up, $40 is a great price!
I've heard that the wings are not very solid and droop over time. Have you noticed this? I don't own this one.
Hi there! The wings themselves are a very solid plastic, so I’ve had no droop issues! It’s more the wing peg that gets inserted into the slot on the main body of the Tie.
Since that connection wasn’t very secure the wings would angle inward slightly if they drag on the surface while placing the vehicle on a shelf. But after the fix it’s much less of an issue and it can be easily straightened out and then vehicle displays as seen in this video, with no issues!
Also the tape and fix method I share in this video makes that wing peg much more secure and snug, therefore reducing droop issues, mine have been displaying perfectly since this video 😃😃😃
what do you do when that inner plastic hook piece cracks, and separates off??? Vintage starwars is like Hiya....
shit broke under it's own weight displaying...
The plastic clips broke on mine, due to the stress from the springs. Therefore this fix was all I needed to keep the wings on and presentable 😎
@@ToysAreTheWay thank you. Probably gonna try. :)
@@artkingofwholefoods74 awesome!! I hope it helps!! 🙂🙂🙂
Insignificant issue compared to the overall quality of the vehicle
Definitely a great vehicle! It's my favorite Tie release!
Great now my tie won’t go kaboom lol
Hahah glad I could help!! 😎🤘
I just flipped the wing upside down and forced it into the slot and it works perfect. No tools needed.
Oh interesting, I thought about and tried that but it did not work for me.
