This has got to be the craziest video I have ever made, mostly because it features a crazy amount of celebrities yet, everyone seems to have forgotten about it!
Also, if you look at the 1 second movie website, a decent amount of charities and businesses donated thousands upon thousands to help this out as the end goal was of course... CHARITY!
Finally, check out this News article here that believes if it wasn't for the 1 second film we wouldn't have sites like Kickstarter & IndieGoGo filmindustry.network/why-the-...

"What if I told you about a scam that has more celebrities attached..."
Is it Scientology?
Literally my first thought
"The profits will go to charity" - If people really wanted to give money to charities, why didn't they just give the money to the charities directly instead of this random stranger running a project?
A good question to ask the people who pay during YTer charity livestreams...!
How can people know you’re giving unless you tell everyone?
Easy. "Hey, its just a buck, Mr. Movie Star."
Reminds me of the Completionist
I sponsored the film Lost Arcade on a whim.
That feature was shown at Texas Theatre and I was able to catch it with my son.
My name as a contributor was shown on the screen at the historic Texas Theatre.
A good documentary and I’m glad I helped.
15:27 He’s right!
“Dr. Drew Pinsky, Todd Oldham, Stacy Peralta, Richard Edson, Robert Carradine, Justin Berfield, and McKenzie Westmore” STILL have their 1 second film photo as their main Wikipedia photo.
I actually contributed to this all the way back in 2009. I'm so glad someone's covering this massive scam, especially since the hackfrauds behind it have more or less scrubbed all traces of it from the internet.
“Profits” in Hollywood means something completely different than to the rest of the world. Return of the Jedi has never made a profit by Hollywood accounting standards, so this guy knew exactly what he was doing from the start.
What a scumbag. If he was only scamming celebrities, that'd be one thing, but it's just plain disgusting to say you're going to give to charity and run with all the money.
charity scams are a special kind of evil.
My 1st thought on this introduction was "Sciencetoliagy" lol
TBH I don't think they would waste their time for just 1 million to them that's peanuts
@@TheDarkVampire666 money is money for some even those super rich they are tight with it not spending money on a delivery charge for food instead driving to get the food themselves others like you say could buy a country like I'd buy a can of coke. So yeah I basically agree with you
One might say this was one of the oldest crowdfunding scams ever committed
For sure, I found articles aiming that this was the campaign that birthed Kickstarter
Cannot believe I stumbled on this video - I remember giving $1 to this many years ago when I was a kid! Have occasionally wondered what ever happened to this
Yep, and, nothing... Nothing has happened
I wonder if once the whole thing started to go the wrong way one or more celebrities, or the people that represent them, reached out to the film maker to prevent the credits from being created or to prevent their names or likeness from being included in the credits. Once that started happening the whole excuse of "whoops, the credits got corrupted" was created as an excuse. Without the credits the 1 second film on it's own isn't really worth releasing.
Sounds possible tbh.
2:24 The book made it pretty clear in the nut sorting room part that Wonka had a pretty normal diet, so it stands to reason that Charlie was going to enjoy quite a few steaks in his future.
They were born slippy. Living in that underworld of sleaze.
:P an absolute classic
We're Slope's Kickstarter Room now
Trainspotting had such a great soundtrack.
Thanks for reminding me about Born Slippy by Underworld. A freaking great track!
Amazing song
I'm surprised the Charity got $220 from Tom Green.
You would have thought he smelt a scam from a mile away and donated only 1 penny while screaming at the guy incoherently.
Yeah, although I think he was spurd on by Andy Dick
Even if he has no more interest in editing the documentary part, he could always just pay somebody else to do it. If he doesn't want to be bothered with a proper release, he could even just throw it up on RUclips and donate whatever ad revenue he gets. It's one thing when a kickscammer gets in way over their head and can't possible deliver, but I'm always amazed that the ones who could easily make things right (or at lease right enough) don't do so. You'd think it with be worth it just to make the controversy disappear.
Exactly, all that work, effort and money is gone
yep, I fell for this and paid for a Producer credit. Pretty much forgot all about it, it's been that long.
It's been a very long timr
Very interesting, I don't recall this at all from the time. I thought this video was going to be about Kony lmao
Bro same😂
Same. I literally said out loud "an internet scam involving celebrities BEFORE kony?!" 😅
*same lmfao*
1 Second Movie? o_O;
On the other hand, 5 Second Films is still going...
Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention, I'm still upset I was scammed so long ago and I thought I'd be a "Producer" of a movie.
Great job on all the work.
Hello SGR, I watched one of your videos about a physical copy of a game that had been DMCA’d by kickstarter and you managed to get your hands on it just by going into Argos. I went into CEX on holiday in the East Coast and found an unusual game I’ve never heard of, nor could I actually read because it was all in French (I’m assuming). The title of the game is called Stay. If you know anything on it, I’d be interested to see a video on it.
Great video, really enjoyed it!
The cherry ontop was the electrifying optimism and wistful nostalgia conjured up by using Born Slippy as your backing track, fit the mood perfectly! Curious if it's easy to license, or has it been released to public domain (or owned by a defunct/inactive label that doesn't pursue copyright control)?
Ahhhhh so glad you thought so.
I feel like I should just say that the documentary about the arcade feels a lot more like taking advantage of a cute kid's little moment that should have been kept a small intimate memory.
I mean, I think that kid might actually grow up to be something with a creative drive like this, but it will be a huge impediment for him if this is the first thing about him to come whenever he goes looking for work.
And why it is bad for the employer if they hire a guy who had a popular arcade as a kid?
@@Pehmokettu Did you ever hear the story of Frankie Muniz getting pissed off when someone praised him for Malcolm in the Middle directly after he finished a set with his band?
Did you even know that Frankie Muniz was in a band?
Most people don't want the reputation they formed as a child to proceed them as an adult.
If that happens to work out for him great, but he never really got a choice as he made that decision as a child, did he?
Unlike Muniz, I really doubt this kid made a lot of money on this, so I really hope the defining moment of his entire life didn't occur when he was 10.
He didn't really lie. 'The profits will go to charity'.
no profits.. well.. alrighty.
Still not good
Love the video, but HelloFresh is notorious for mistreating its employees (low wages, union busting, and unsafe working conditions)
HelloFresh also owns Factor, iirc.
Came to comment this, but knew in my heart someone else would point it out 😅
Idk why they're pushing sponsorships like this, they need to just treat their staff better.
Omg I remember this from way back when. You bringing up the name at the start had memories flooding back in about me excited and waiting to see this what would this project would look like.
Im not mad about this. It seems it had good intentions and a lot of work put in that just didn't pay off. They didnt appear to be asking for large amounts, the donations was voluntary and it seemed an art project over all.
6:10 Wait, the unknown was involved!? Where do i sign!? =P
Nah, but for real, I... don't think I've even heard of this, thanks for sharing!
I remember when this was a thing, almost forgot about it myself!
Music from Trainspotting!
"Born slippy" by Underworld in the beginning.
Great video!
Thanks!
That Hello Fresh dub was well done =)
Saturday Slopes? Definitely! ❤
Homestly in 2001 thats a super novel concept
Just started the video and what am I hearing? Born Slippy, oh yeah. 😎
I pay extra for these choons. Glad you enjoyed it
A classic case of an Icarus parable.
Love that wonka part
That song is in Trainspotting
That it is
Slope’s kickstarter videos give me life
Gondry is French. Michel is pretty much pronounced like Michelle.
Good to know!
never heard of this a single time before this video somehow. weird!
"One second movie was done but they run out of money during editing" How much editing does one second long movie needs?
No its the documentary part that was to play after that needed to be edited which he said was over 4 hours long. Still no excuse though.
@@mistertagomago7974Name is miss leading then.
Wait...?!?!? Was there an ad in this episode? Everything was so seemless, I don't know.
I think there was one for Nord Raycon Legends towards the end, but take that with a grain of salt as I am prone to bouts of complete lunacy.
Interesting story, I remember heard the 1 Second Film before but I thought that was a current Hollywood joke that I didn't get it, didn't know this was actually a thing. 😂
And it was never finished?, that's crazy I mean the dude just could do this:
* Start the movie *
_Thanks for the money suckers!_
The End
* Roll the credits *
😂
I don't know how this was ever taken seriously. Like....how is a 1 second montage of unrelated portraits an "animated film"? What's the purpose? It doesn't have a message, there's no real artistic meaning, it's just a very poorly conceived flipbook.
Given how Hollywood types tend to be, it wasn't the content of the film itself that won them over, it was probably the promise of the profits going to charity.
Same thought. It's just a slideshow. I HATE this side of filmmaking that cares nothing for the art and only works on the advertising. And this is just exactly that, no exaggeration.
it's also really cheap to make.
paintings aren't that expensive to make on a principle. they're as quick or long to make as you want them to be.
Tbf it seems like the documentary part was the real draw. Seeing how they get all the celebrities.
@0:48 "How are people not taking about this?"
They are in cahoots. Money is money after all
True that
This song slaps
Hehe. It’s Stephen Col-bear. Not Colbert!
It's also not "Michael Gondry."
He’s an a**hole so he doesn’t deserve proper pronunciation
It's so weird to have a scam video sponsored by HelloFresh, a massively destructive and horribly overpriced company.
Bruh they are a legit company that delivers meals to people; how are they destructive? Because you can’t eat 5000 in one sitting for the money? The fuck outta here

Stupid premise, stupid celebrity my connections, stupid outcome. I literally couldn't possibly care about something like this
Thanks for watching either way
@@slopesgameroom Don't think my point came across well here, sorry Slope. Your video was thorough and well done, I just don't see why people wouldn't have thought it was a scam and why anyone would care enough to put money into a literal single digit frame count single second movie. Wasn't a dig at you
Hahaha it's all cool matey. I agree. It's an odd concept. The whole documentary side came out eventually when that dude from super size me did the same thing for a documentary IMO
Here in the states, whenever we hear CalArts we know a shit show is to follow. So sad it went down this way given where and WHY it was established.
Oh really?
I never really knew about that. Might have had an ad thrown my way years ago while bored at work, but that's about all my recollection...
Well I feel dumb. I actually donated to this project and wondered what the hell happened
Don't feel dumb, feel conned
@slopesgameroom I actually contributed more than money. I went out there, shot some footage, asking people one and only one question "What is your perfect moment?" I got some real wholesome answers out of the deal. I sent in all of the original footage and that was the last I heard.
Damn right, I feel conned.
Oh wow. Hit me up on social or discord mate. I would be very interested in speaking with you via an interview about all of this
I love these videos so much.
Thanks buddy

Fun fact: Most celebrities are idiots, as are all people who are impressed by celebrity status.
I'm more impressed by how a farmer cobbled together a backyard fix for a piece of equipment than I am for Hollywood celebs...
Wow, where did you learn those facts? I want to be more like you, oh wise one.
Celebrities are people. Some people are smart and some people are dumb. Some people are jerks and some people are nice.
Personally I have met a couple celebrities and they were all nice and down to earth people. However I have heard some stories from friends and family about some nasty celebrities. I lived in a resort Town in California (and was an extra in a film with a bigger name) and people like Dolly Parton were incredibly nice.
@@YTKeepsDeletingAllMyComments Yea, but most celebrities are dumb as shit.
@@YTKeepsDeletingAllMyComments I'm not conflating intelligence with kindness.
This is quite literally all advertising and no art.
I have a question: why are people calling hellofresh is a scam?😅
It's not a scam per se, it's just overpriced for what you get, and the shipping materials they use are horrendous for both the environment and keeping food fresh during shipment. Plus they're apparently a nightmare to work for.
@@LordArikadoi see🤔 I asked the question because I was skeptic about everyone else’s claims 😅
@@LordArikado It's pretty obvious, I didn't even need anyone to point it out. Ever since people started shilling it I and my friend thought about how little you get/are saving for the price and that you can't trust highly perishable fresh food shipped to you no matter how many ice packs they shove in the box lol. It's not really a scam, but it is definitely a ripoff. Like paying 5 bucks for the exact same thing you could have got for 3 at another store.
It's not a scam, it's just a company that exploits its workers. Really no different than any company under capitalism.
I use Home Chef myself anyway. I've almost never gotten anything from a RUclips sponsorship.
Kind of surreal to see someone who exposes scams taking money from hello fresh, they are far worse than any scam slope has done a video on
How so ? They might be overpriced but at least they send you something. That's better than so many scams that have taken people's money and ran.
I just realized slopes doesnt age
I don't understand what the scam here is? It sounds like he ran out of funds etc to make the movie.
You know, not every failure is a scam? You think he did all that work just to make some money? Such as building a bus and doing all that research?
Slope, I get that your videos aren't currently doing well but just trying to force a narrative into something that from the evidence you have provided, doesn't really paint any other picture except 'indie movie didnt get completed' isn't the right way to try and get views.
Indie films fail all the time, due to lack of funding, personal circumstances or even unforeseen circumstances such as legal issues/rights issues (which is what I am assuming was the death of this movie, trying to get all the rights to the celebrities cameos)
Honestly I dont say this often, but you should probably just delete this video.
Are you going to flag his video? 😅
It’s got a very low viewership compared to his other videos
Well i don’t agree with this long wall of text at all 🤦♀️
