  • You've probably never seen this kind of Fire Axe!
    Take a look at how deep engraving on a metal looks like.
    I documented the steps it takes to professionally engrave a hatchet. This is not an etched axe, like you see so many people do now days. This is an old craft, where meticulously super tiny pieces of metal are removed, like sculpting, and only those left that are needed, resulting in a beautiful work of art.
    This type of process is used to engrave valuable guns, rifles, jewelry, watches and the very same principles and techniques I use to engrave this hatchet.
    The techniques demonstrated in this video are cutting fine lines, background removal, stippling, light sculpting, deep relief cutting and metal inlaying.
    The handle is carved out from an acacia wood.
    Enjoy the video, let me know what you think - comment below.

    Tell me what kind of theme you would like to see on the next axe??

    So amazing. You amazing work. I metal detect and find axe heads and I have one soaking in vinegar but when its done I'd like to turn it into something similar. I found it at a place where the original owners land was a donation land claim so it would be themed on that.

      @@ASkobiDesigns do you have any recommendations on learning to engrave?

    • @ASkobiDesigns
      @ASkobiDesigns  Год назад +1

      Looking back how I started learning to engrave - now I would definitely recommend taking 2, 3 classes from master engravers. By taking a class from a professional - will save you lots of time and money spent buying wrong items.
      There great classes in Texas and I took classes at GRS.

    Another beautiful piece of work right there! I would expect nothing less than legendary from you. How do you not have more subscribers? Your work speaks for itself, the cinematography is excellent, you put out videos on the regular, and I know I have shared your videos with multiple people. It's a head scratcher.
    Those old fireman's axes are difficult to come by. Been trying to find one to customize for my friend who is a firefighter. The new ones are trash, and mostly made with aluminum handles. The older ones are just harder to find.
    Keep up the great work. I really enjoy your videos (especially when there are bears in them).

    To cut the outline that will be inlayed, so how many degrees do you use? or with ongelet?

    • @ASkobiDesigns
      @ASkobiDesigns  Год назад +1

      Not sure if it's possible to describe in writing, but will try. First I cut with 120 degree engraver. Once I have a rough channel line, then I use tiny flat graver and cut out the bottom. Then I use onglette graver and do undercuts on both left and right sides - and that's the channel.

  • @mulanjamilah7849
    @mulanjamilah7849 Год назад

    what kind of gravel do you use to dig the trenches for the inlays? what way do you dig to be able to also use wire? or specifically for cutting techniques according to patterns like in the video

    • @ASkobiDesigns
      @ASkobiDesigns  Год назад +1

      I do the outline with 120 and then flat graver to cut the channel out.

  • @KaiSimolaHandEngraver

    May I ask how deep the pocket is, and what blade do you use to make the hooks?

    • @ASkobiDesigns
      @ASkobiDesigns  Год назад

      To put things in perspective, using a 120 degree graver to do scrolls, the depths is between 0.1mm-0.25mm. On this axe the deep engraved pockets were between 1.0mm-2.25mm.
      Please explain your second question further, what do you mean by 'hooks'?

      @@ASkobiDesigns How do you make the copper stick to the steel, I tried to do the same but the copper doesn't stick!

    • @ASkobiDesigns
      @ASkobiDesigns  Год назад

      Cut out a channel.
      Do the under cut around the perimeter of the channel.
      Using 120 or 116 graver make burrs in the channel in different directions.
      Finally pound in the inlay.
