When I worked at SBux 4 years ago, I was getting paid 15.50 in an expensive city and knew it was just a temp job. Worked for 1.5 years, loved the work but wanted more so I left. If you want higher pay, look for a different line of work. At the end of the day, it’s not meant to be a career to live comfortably and save in California if you’re in the barista role.

I'm a Pediatric Hospice RN working with dying children and supporting their families and make $27 an hour. Not that much more for requiring a degree and providing a much needed service.
There is a reason why these commenters are all so angry, it is because the average american with a college degree only makes 65k. Factor in the average student loan of $900 a month, and if Starbucks employees get a raise to $25 an hour, the wages will almost meet. Starbucks in my neighborhood is important They do give smiles and a place for some of us to hang out a bit I do want better for these workers but also, it is a coffee shop on a self serve style where it’s not a lot of moving around except behind the counter and back shelves/stock And there are tips, not sure about the details but I do always say power to the ppl!

Service labor jobs have existed worldwide for millennia and have never needed a "masters degree" nor any degree, just training and labor (like most jobs). Fair pay for fair labor predates the creation of all colleges anywhere in history.

Become nurses and give us a hand, there is a country full of sick people that need help, just don't strike on them, too.

This is y I dont spend my money on Starbucks. I only go to Starbucks once a year during the holidays for my Gingerbread Mocha Frap with Choco Syrup & Whip Cream & even tip them if they get it right but every year it seems no matter wat gets done, Starbucks employees are NEVER Satisfied like someone who just got divorced & wants more money from the divorce cuz they didnt like wat they got
