    Carnage Tyrant is definitely Ixalan's Torrential Gearhulk. I'll actually try to pack some Trial of Ambition in my UB Tempo build and hope for the best. Cartouche of Knowledge seems interesting with, say, Dreamstealer, if the rest of the deck supports this jank.

    Seth, I'd like to suggest an Against the Odds deck featuring Settle the Wreckage & Emeria in Modern.
    Basically, use the token producing abilities of White to super-ramp into Emeria and go from there. Splash green for Ramunap excavator / Crucible of worlds to get back destroyed lands.
    Work with the white cards, focusing on their chump blocking prowess and show us a good token session :D

    I think Ruin Raider will actually do much better in W/B Vampires, oddly. With all the lifegain vampires have access to in both white and black, Ruin Raiders may just be "you draw a card if you attacked this turn" and the drawback of losing life will just be flavor text.

    • @justinkp
      @justinkp 7 лет назад

      Primal Amulet only makes instants and sorceries cheaper. And I'm not sure what you mean casts twice - if you're referring to copying Vraska, even if that did work one would immediately die due to the legend rule.

      I almost asked if you meant Vraska's Contempt but the way you referred to the card as "her" made me think you meant the planeswalker. I also have insomnia and had been up for many, many hours - my apoogies.

    You have to remember that Deathgorge scavenger can be a three mana 5/4 for it's first attack and be still growing. It's almost like standard goyf, in the way that if you don't just kill it when it enters, it's going to get fuckhueg and accrue some mad value. And it also shits on both aggro and control spectrum all the same.

    Really no walk the plank?? 2 mana destroy anything even at sorcery speed seems really good as a 2 of next to fatal push and veraska's contempt

    • @PotatoGuidanceMissle
      @PotatoGuidanceMissle 7 лет назад +1

      onewhovlogs The main problem with it is that it's double black and sorcery speed. Fatal Push is easy to splash in anything, and Vraska's Contempt hits more things while gaining you life. The main commonality between the two is instant speed. While Plank can kill anything other than merfolk, not being able to hold it up if your opponent slams down something like an eternalized Earthshaker Khenra or Chandra, Torch of Defiance makes it a little less than optimal. I do agree, it is strong, but the instant speed is a bit more relevant than sorcery speed

      The big difference is Vraska's Contempt Exiles while Walk the Plank only destroys. It's actually relevant in a format with Amonkhet/HOD, there's some big things in that block that need to be exiled if you want to be rid of them.
      Hitting Planeswalkers is just a nice bonus, it's the exiling that makes the difference.

    There are answers for Carnage Tyrant -- you just have to get creative: Failure/Comply and Commit are good tempo spells that don't care about it being uncounterable; Trial of Ambition and Doomfall are good edict effects (use targeted removal for the other dorks); Gideon's Intervention prevents all damage/stops it from even being cast, while Settle the Wreckage and Fumigate can wrath it away; Haze of Pollen can just fog when it attacks. The only color that really has no answer is red, which would have to use at least 2 sweepers and 8 Mana to clear it.

    • @justinkp
      @justinkp 7 лет назад

      It may not be while, but Harvest Season does much the same thing for cheaper and without killing your creatures and sees no play. There are differences in how the 2 cards play but I don't think those differences are enough to make Settle the Wreckage work this way when Harvest Season didn't (even with cards like Cryptolith Rite making it even easier).

    • @KensanOni
      @KensanOni 7 лет назад

      Justin Postlewaite I'm not saying your wrong. I am saying that it gives a different color access to ramp. Esper has a lot of high cost cards on it's end. While GX may not want to use Harvest Season, because it has better ramp option, WX might want access to ramp, and this can give it to them.

    • @justinkp
      @justinkp 7 лет назад

      KensanOni You may be right. It could actually be pretty good in some of the B/W (sometimes also with green but I think that will be dropped since it seemed mostly for Catacomb Sifter) hidden stockpile, almost aristocrat like token decks Sam Black was playing a lot recently that I think may get even better now. It could be really good there - earlier versions didn't have a lot to ramp in to but this could help incentivize doing that. Something like a B/W heavy token deck with Oketra's Monument, servo tokens, Hidden Stockpile and some of the new token producers to ramp really quickly into Marionette Master to combo kill the opponent very quickly seems potentially awesome. That definitely seems like a Sam Black kind of deck and sounds sweet. I'm still a bit skeptical because using Settle the Wreckage this way has a fairly high set up cost and requires a lot to go right and the deck may just not even need it, just using other ways to ramp now like treasure (although I don't think there's any treasure in white but there's a bunch in black and blue) and dowsing dagger/lost vale.
      Its definitely worth trying out but I'm a bit wary since it may just not be as consistent as just using treasure from black and/or blue (since you mentioned esper - which also has improvise which I still hope does something but probably won't) and I thought Harvest Season could be really good (again especially with cryptolith rite) since even though green has other ramp the ceiling for it seemed SO high. I think using Settle the Wreckage as ramp also has a very high ceiling, but may just not end up as consistent as other options. I hope I'm wrong because I think it would be really cool and I love seeing cards used in non-obvious ways. We'll just have to wait and see. At the very least it would make a very cool Against the Odds deck!

  • @Rococorico
    @Rococorico 7 лет назад

    Vraska's Contempt XLN Rare 4.72 Tix
    Imagine how bad is the removal in the format if this bulk rare is 4 tix. The double promo fatal push I think It whas on purpose to release some decent removal in standar.

    • @baalercyti9427
      @baalercyti9427 7 лет назад

      Xavi Simon I wouldn't consider it a bulk rare. Exiling for 4 is actually pretty good, and it only gets better with all the gods in the format. Having the option of a planeswalker and gaining 2 life is worth the mana

    • @xavisimon3095
      @xavisimon3095 7 лет назад

      I think is pretty bad 4CMC is to late, and to late... is to late GG game lost.
      Exile a creature should be CMC3 ccB.
      cBB its already somehow more restrictive, its fine for “destroy a creature or planeswalker” a good example is Hero's Downfall (0,03TIX right now)
      Vraska's Contempt should be cBB and pay 2 life, and it could be a correct balance, but they wanted do force the cost to 4 and they aided winning 2 life thing absolutely stupid because you are loosing more life in the turns you can’t cast it.
      Cast out cost 4 exiling any permanent not even double W.
      Anguished Unmaking cost 3 and 3 life exiling any permanent.
      I just dot get the point of placing vital but bad removal on rare slots to make it cost 5 or 6 tix wen they will drop to 0,01 once trey move to modern. Black removal has been so bad in the last set (fatal push exception, but its pretty conditional and much better for modern on fetches).
      Standard removal is so bad rigt now that even Walk the Plank its around 0.20tix
      If black can only deal with creatures and its not good even for this I just full commit to blue at leas I cant deal with almost everything for cUU with cancel.
      Then if I compare Vraska's Contempt with Settle the Wreckage … you can exile opponent board instant speed for 4 mana if he full commit, o blossoming defense or anything can save it once he attacks
      The card is good for white decks just existing even if you don’t play it, because it wilt change the way peoples play, believe me once you get blow out by this you will remember, and people seing xxWW mana up will pray just to get cast out wile they attack.
      BTW I just remember Declaration in Stone 2 manna instant speed, and black gets Hour of Glory super useful
      B tempoing-out itself since …. :S

      oh of course, because my deck neither plays removal to kill their early ramp, nor does my deck play Settle the wreckage, or fumigate, nor is able to do way more damage than 7 by turn 4, so.... ... ehm no wait. my deck (any tier 1 or 2 deck) does one of these things. so i dont care about all the backflips you have to do to unlikely get that thing out on turn 4. you either dont, or you are dead anyway the next turn.

    • @jaymarshbank3862
      @jaymarshbank3862 7 лет назад

      Schweiner Bro, I think you should probably get on proxying up some decks and doing some actual testing of the format. Or watch someone on on youtube do it for you. Either way I would educate yourself before you embarass yourself any further. Dinosaurs plays Blossoming defence in the main and Shapers sanctuary in the side, Carnage tyrant isnt their only threat either and if you think Ripjaw raptor goes down easy to anything but Revolted push or Walk the plank....assuming he doesnt hit the board on turn 3 and like I said...has blossoming defence for protection if you did have your magical christmas land perfect removal every single time and then you still whiff.
      Everything dinosaurs plays deserves an answer, and no one packs enough removal to negate every single play dinosaurs makes and still have time to develop a game plan or a board of their own.
      So please, go educate yourself and then you can come back here and tell us how garbage carnage tyrant is with your GP results.

      Xavi Simon Pushing creatures, nerfing spells? Haha you're funny. Have you noticed the new broken planeswalkers we got? How about vehicles? Those are not creatures either, and control is a big part of the standard meta game, they are just making aggro a viable strategy so every deck is not midrange or control. Please elaborate what you are trying to say.

      Well I sure don't see how anyone can even try to argue against such a well stated point.

      Justin Postlewaite Lol, it really is pretty bad. The most expensive card carnage tyrant, is under $30, like wtf wizards.

      So you're basing the quality of the set on pre-order prices before anyone has played with the cards? The prices are going to change radically. This set also seems to have generally weak mythics (probably to help offset the possible price increase from getting rid of masterpieces) which I think is good. And are you upset that there's no Gideons, Emrakuls, Smuggler's Copters or Atherworks Marvels? The format is better when there aren't a few cards that overpower everything else. Also what do you expect to happen to the power level of sets after they had to ban numerous cards causing widespread complaint? Even with all that the set looks pretty good to me, but I guess I'm crazy in preferring the cards to be cheap rather than expensive.
