  • Today I share with you my strategies for coping with anxiety and panic attacks. Not every method will work for everyone, but hopefully something I share will help. If you have any tips yourself, please share with us in comments!

    I just turned 40. I’ve suffered with severe anxiety since I was a child (PTSD related). I used to be overly medicated, doctors always wanting to shove drugs at me. I took my health into my own hands about 2.5 years ago. I weaned myself off all the meds under my doctors supervision. I started doing calming yoga and I began prayer based meditation. I joke with my kids about things that mess with my “zen”. I use white/sleep noises to help calm me when my anxiety feels like a spike is coming. I completely quit social media except for RUclips. I found that social media would get my nerves upset and before I knew it I was anxious. I absolutely can not do suspense/horror because it elevates my BP when I get startled, and that leads to an anxiety episode. I avoid caffeine and limit my sugar intake as well. Definitely do your research; you’d be surprised by what things actually play a role in triggering a panic attack and spike anxiety. But above all else, do what works for you! And consult with your doctor before implementing things.

    Checkout Michael Sealy. He has ones you can listen overnight for anxiety. They work amazing. Also essential oil diffuser w lavender. Also our body can use frequencies to heal. Check youtube. No tv for me since last year helps. Disconnecting from the drama and negativity has made my anxiety almost disappear.

    I so do understand. I have had panic attacks for years on and off. My first one began after my brother died. Back then my heart rate would go crazy. I honestly thought I was going to die. I went for a number of years without any and then last year they came back. I started having anxiety attacks anytime I drove. A few weeks ago I started having chest pain and could not breathe. Blood pressure shot up. I saw a cardiologist and my heart is fine. It’s all anxiety and panic. It snow balls. You are right you have to get your mind off it. Talking to people does help. Your brain is very powerful and it can throw you for a loop.

    I have to stop myself from listening to scary stuff especially if it’s true. Sounds weird but it can really get to me.

    I'm so sorry that happened to you. I think it is a wise idea to stay away from the scary stuff from now on. The different people I have seen have panic and anxiety attacks seem to be triggered by their surroundings. Try your best to keep yourself surrounded by pleasant and a positive atmosphere and people as well.

    Oh yes!! I have them all the time! I also get hemiplegic migraines w aura(paralytic seizures) so I am on daily meds to help prevent them as I have so many. Anxiety and depression are cyclical for me so I just reeeally focus on the good moments, staying calm, feeling gratitude for any pain free moments, doing what i can to prevent them. When it gets too much and if i can, i watch/or listen to (with eyes closed) any of my regular youtube "friends'" channels for a few minutes. If I need to get up i do the same as you and make chamomile and sometimes i'll even just go onto the deck and run on the spot for a bit. Doing even a few yoga poses close to the floor w deep breathing helps and basically moving around all these things at least burns off a bit of that panicy energy. Getting back to work on whatever my latest project is usually helps the most during the day. You definitely aren't alone! So many are suffering with this at the moment. Our world has changed and our bodies don't like all the changes. You've had serious challenges so give yourself more time because each day is a new day for healing in my book! :)

    Oh yes I suffered from anxiety & panic attacks for years! Unless you've experienced them you have no idea. You don't just snap out of them, as a matter of fact when I approached it from this perspective they intensified. I finally did discover buspirone which is non addictive non narcotic & I only took it if I felt it was necessary. I also know diet & exercise can be a great help as well. How many on this page are peri menopausal? Did you know this Very common for this stage of life?

      I have read that it is a fairly common thing during peri-menopause too.

    I had a mother in law, had panic attacks really bad. But I have got anxiety and you're right what helped you or others may not help everybody I like reading the Bible or hearing it in my ears been read from apps you can get .and also I have to stay away from certain TV programs could trigger my anxiety worse I definitely couldn't listen to the story you said you was listening to I just learn there's certain things that I can't put in my mind so I tried to stick as close to God as possible and a calming atmosphere around me as possible. And my daughter got me drinking some anxiety and stress tea and that also helps me but it don't get rid of it what I hate is the anxiety makes me have a headache sometimes and yes I can get jittery from it, I will pray for you you will get better. I really feel for you.and glad you have your sister. My younger son tried to help me he's my jokester my funny boy even though he 22. Walking helps me to and doing some exercises. It's been raining a lot here lately. 🙏 😊

    Defiantly control better what you watch. I have suffered my whole life from anxiety and PTSD. If you could get your hands on a chamomile tincture. It's stronger then the tea. I blow lightly and make a vibrating sound out. It sounds funny but it helps me. Try to get up and walk around. I find removing myself from the area I started having the panic attack helps. Touch something soft or ruff. Get one of those really extra soft blankets to rub or a nail file. If your hot go somewhere cold and vice versa. Smell something. I have a little fancy hand soap that I like to smell when I am having anxiety. Listen to Michael Sealy on RUclips. He is great for calming down. Try to use as many of your senses all at the same time. I have found most of the time the meds made my anxiety and panic even worse. But that's me. Unfortunately my body doesn't agree with meds. Say to yourself. I know what you are and I know you will pass. I need to give myself a break and just let it pass. Face it head on. I find that helps me. To know you are not alone defiantly helps. Trust me you are not alone. 💖

    I use to have the same problems. I got help from God . I kept reminding myself of his words when he said he did not create me to worry or fair. Fair and worry comes from the devil. He wants to trick you with his lies. Whenever you get this feeling just remember God true words. I promise this will help

    Sweet Sandra, you are not alone. I've had panic attacks so bad I've gone to the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attack. When one is prone to these attacks, one tends to try to analyze them. There is no analysis. They just happen. I've had some of the worst ones when I've been the happiest. Once, when I was at dinner with friends it came on so bad I had to leave and I was having a great time with people I love and who love me. Once I was in WalMart purchasing things for a charity I support and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. May I share some of my thoughts? For me, they seem to come in seasons. What I mean isn't Spring, Fall, etc. I mean they seem to stick around for a while, and then I may not have a bad "season" for years. Some seasons last longer and are more intense, some are shorter and milder. The strange thing is that when I've had a particularly difficult season seems to be when things are at their best. I don't know If I'm "waiting for the other shoe to drop" or what, that just seems to be a tendency I've noticed. They come from a massive dump of adrenaline into your system. First, have the doctor check your adrenal function and check for adrenal fatigue. If that proves to be working properly, allow yourself to believe that you're not going nuts, because you're not! It isn't a mental illness, it's a physical reaction to some type of stimulation that causes the adrenaline release. That realization helped me immensely. I think about why I feel the need for someone to "rescue" me and I often forget to turn to the ONLY one who can rescue me, Jesus. Another tactic I try is just to lay down on my bed and tell the panic attack, "OK, do your worst. I know I'm going to survive this so just have your way for a while. I'm going to be praying and I'll be back when you're done." Sometimes I think the fear of another attack sets me off. If I can continue to believe that they only have temporary control over my body, and that my life and mental status are fine, it seems to somewhat disarm the fear. People who have never had panic attacks just don't understand the depth of fear they can instill. They are of Satan, and I rebuke them in the name of Jesus. It's such a complex issue and I don't think they will ever find the "magic cure", but we can live a full and normal life around them. One major issue for me was telling people; "Listen, sometimes I have an adrenal malfunction that causes a massive fight or flight reaction. It can sometimes put me out of commission for a couple of hours and it's exhausting, so it may take me a bit to recover. Occasionally I may have to cancel a date, or I can't participate in plans we have made, but please don't think I'm a slacker or I'm blowing you off. It's like if you had a blinding headache and you have to postpone and engagement. It's real, it's a physical reaction, and it can't be controlled any more than I can control a headache. Maybe you could check-in with me and see how I'm doing, or come by and have a cup of tea and talk because having someone around seems to help distract me." The bottom line is that you're not crazy, you're not going to lose your mind, you're not going to die, and that "this too shall pass." Riding out the storm is no picnic and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, but WE WILL SURVIVE!!! I love that you feel so comfortable sharing with us, we love you and will keep you in our prayers. God bless you Sandy, He will never leave you or forsake you". (p.s. I'm 70 and I've been dealing with this since high school so I speak from years of personal experience. Keep the faith, you will survive.)

    Ive had panic attacks before when i was a teenager. I didn’t even know what they were but i do know it was very fun😬. i think it cound be hereditary. My three sisters have dealt with it and my dad also. Prayers for you that it will get better again.

    I have horrible anxiety and panic disorder as well. I take Kratom when I get anxious and it works so well! I really hope it has eased up for you.
