Looking forward to seeing the finished window. It seems like a lot of figuring! Not to mention the stone shaping, hammering! Noting like having an Irish pub in the neighborhood! Hugs from 🇨🇦
Being claustrophobic this window is the single most important part of the build I really can't wait to see finished. The shower is also high on the list but so much need your window to be a thing.
Oh Kirsty, you are AMAZING! I have watched several people opening holes in walls. Usually they have at least one other person to help and use props (scaffolding with a plate on top that goes into the wall to hold it up). It's going to be sooo good. will make your home so nice to be able to look out at your view. Your house has great stonework.
Good girl for pushing ahead Kirsty. An Irish pub is a definite distraction. How wonderful will it be to have all that light in your little house and to sit inside, (especially in winter and on rainy days), looking at a view. So excited. Greetings from Australia
Hi Ana you should be able to confirm or not that a Shebeen in Australia is or was called a sly grogger in North America they are known as booze cans which makes sense, in Canada they were known as the blind pig I could never understand why.
Dear Kirsty, your vlog using the new logo you designed, it is perfect, just beautiful!!!!!!!!! Dear Kirsty, you are so kind to your friend and her family. Sooooooo happy you are starting the window work. It looks very difficult to do, but I am sure you will be able to finish it. Just be careful as stones are very big to move. ,
Woo Hoo! Caution when working with big stones is reasonable. Putting a big old hole in your wall is daunting! Doing one thing that scares you every day is tiring, especially for those of us who are cautious, but, I think you're getting used to it!! 😅 I can wait until you're ready and confident regarding your moves. Enjoy the challenge. I know you'll be successful. As you say, what can happen? Gravity works, stones piled on top of each other mostly stay there unless provoked. You can do this!!! Best for the coming challenge! Angela

The more used spelling is 'Shebeen' (Sibín being the Irish spelling) and she could call it 'Shady Jane's' (Sinead being the Irish version of the name Jane). Another name for two small pubs is 'The Wink & the Nod' (more international). She could call it 'The Wink' when it's outside in the summer and 'The Nod' when it's indoors in the winter (or vice versa)! Great progress on the stonework, both window and toolshed.
Great job on the window, a tricky task. By the look of that glow of light coming through the hole in the window, you will need either shutters or an overhead awning for summer. Might need to throw that into the mix if the design. Another couple Life by Living made their own shutters 😮 but just attached them to the stone sides with brackets and plugs & masonry goo. Did the trick. Anyway 👍, nothing like drinking a beer in a beer garden on a hot day! Cheers from Oz😊
You are progressing well with the window opening. When you look from inside it looks as if you could push the stones out, but it's deceiving. Cool bar, weather will play havoc with the timber.
As I am watching, great that you have help with the shed foundation and yes, I would be a little bit scared of the stones. That is a lot of work but it will be a great window. Quite the bar!
You can do this Kirsty I am sure of it as daunting as it may seem you have got this far and I don't think you thought you would. Trust your vision because every other vision you have had has worked beautifully 😁 Love the local Irish bar bit of Irish music and it will be the perfect place to be 😁😁
I think it will make sense when we see the process. The problem for me is the perspective. It seems really deep and I have a hard time seeing the outside part and the inside part. But no worries you seem like you know. It will be a nice window and the view will be awesome.
Congrats on facing your fears and tackling that dreaded window project. Bringing in that amazing outdoor light through it will be so worth it. Excited for you! I find if I don't think too much about a project, and just get started, I end up getting less stressed. Will you then tackle completing pointing of the inside kitchen wall window area? I know you'll have to remove sink, stove, etc, but won't it be nice to have one area fully completed. Especially an area you use a lot. Wall to floor shelves next to stove could help too. As always, rooting for you! ❤ Then there's the adorable little Irish pub... down the lane
Overthinking things into the point of freezing is something I definitely do, but just getting going and hoping things fall into place is the best solution to that. I'd like to keep going with the plastering, but this is the base layer and I'm not confident yet in my abilities to do the final rendering just yet. All of that will happen all at once when most of the house is complete. But I'd like to get the stones covered, for sure!
@@PortugalfromScratch Yes, I totally get the freezing up when I think of an entire project. My husband does enough of that for both of us. I tend to just start at one corner, and go, go, go. Rendering too, can be done one wall at a time, so it doesn't become that overwhelming monster you can't face. Best of luck. Your doing great!
Well done on doing the things that scare you.Eat the elephant one bite at a time and soon it will be done. So very proud of you. You continue to inspire me, I also have learned new skills and it's absolutely life changing.
You're doing a great job young lady, brava👏.. I just want to ask, have you done the video about how you started the RUclips channel and all the equipment you used at the start and now using? Please please, if you haven't yet, do it soon as I'm hoping to start a RUclips channel but have no clue whatsoever and need information. Thank you so much, i love everything you are doing and love your personality, i wish you were my neighbour but alas I'm here in Italy and you are in Portugal..maybe in the future you can visit😊. Hugs and purrs ❤❤
@@PortugalfromScratch I think we mean for the meantime. While you get the hole prepared and window ordered. You could fit a mosquito screen with plain wood frame to keep bugs out and a transparent plastic to help with weather and not block daylight.
Will the rectangular stones be connected somehow or just kind of stacked and held together with mortar? I'm trying to picture the plan. What fun to see some of the things that were on the van. Who would ever guess that there would be a bar in there!
Sinead is Irish from Kildare. Her aunt is also Irish but moved to Brittany many years ago and her cousin Hannah is Irish/Breton. Paul is French. It's been a fun mix!
The bar is great. I am sure it will be well used! You need to have fun as well as work hard. I am looking forward when the window is in. Will you be able to open the window?
Hi! I'm going to buy the rest of what he has, but I'm told they're stones that people used to make to be the wire holders for grape trellises, so maybe ask around for those?
Maybe you should acquire the actual window before you finalize the hole. Are you ordering a custom made sized window? If not then there are standard sized wooden framed windows at hardware stores and you need the hole to match. It could take many weeks to order the window. Framing the window out with a sill and wood around the stone must be exact size.
I'd prefer that but I've been looking and can't find anything I like. Plus, until now, I haven't known the window size I'd need. But I agree that would be much easier and cheaper. I might have one final look around the shops tomorrow when I'm in town, but I think custom is the way I'll go. Making the hole will be very tricky but I have an idea that might make things easier... stay tuned! 😀
I Pray you have fun with your friends at the Lake and Relax your Body and Rest a little bit.❤. Raquel.
Thanks very much!

I love that big piece of wood! Looks great. It must be so odd to have LIGHT in the kitchen now and even…a lil breeze. I am loving this project
Ya it was cool to see the light shining through... it'll be better through an actual window, though! 😁
Great job by tackling such a big task, not an easy exercise but one that will give you loads of confidence if you succeed, well done !
Yep If I can pull this off I'll definitely have way more stone-working confidence. Thanks!

Hi you lovely thank you ginger
Hi! 🐈
You can cover the window opening with a clear nylon sheet
Yes a shower curtain will work.
True but I also want it to be secure... or do you mean hard plastic?
@PortugalfromScratch No,I meant the normal clean nylon roll tonprevent insects from going in&rain, too
@@PortugalfromScratch I think we mean for the meantime. While you get the hole prepared and window ordered. You could fit a mosquito screen with plain wood frame to keep bugs out and a transparent plastic to help with weather and not block daylight.
A pallet placed under the window may help you to reach, easy does it.
I need to get a bit higher than that at the moment, at least on the outside.
