19:46 just additional info din, yung tactics na ginamit ni pistol and lhip, I've first seen it in gl vs zend luke, yung line something like "bilangin nyo kung ilang (ako) (ako) ang babanggitin nya" 20:30, for me GL created a meta that they mostly used today, example : 1. first example contructing verses using train of thoughts, before kasi walang method ang emcee to write from one set of topics to another, parang they usually jump angles to angles without bridge kaya walang smooth transitional from the current topics to another. (but I don't think GL created this tactics kasi mostly used na sya when it comes to writing songs, at narinig ko na rin siya kay blkd before, the line that I can think of right now is yung royal rumble "di ko na kelangan ng props para bumauga ng apoy, kaya sunog noon si spade") the transition from one angle to another supported by the previous line, I think you're getting what I'm talking about additional notes - the used for train of thought is not only the way gl represented it katulad ng transition from st. peter to peter parker to mary jane wordplay to weed / the whole concept of this is writing each verse connected to the next line or creating bridge for smooth transition, para di kalat ang thoughts using different angle and it helps emcee to remember the next line by relying with the previous line instead of writing it separately without bridge, which is hard to remember. 2. yung additional punch line after the 4th bar/line. I think loonie called it kuntil, - ito yung pahabol na suntok. example lines : "ikaw yung pippen/pipeng (Deaf) kalaro ni MJ/Micheal Joe, Bullshit" bullshit is a additional punch after the last line, 3. yung cenceptual to justify the punch more - naiisip ko to bilang conceptual version ng costume ni shernan, shernan used costume to justify the bar, for example he used slamdunk to add more power to the lines to make it relevant sa battel, gl used concept to add more power sa punchline, for example battle againts sayadd (which I watched it live) before the punch about time travel, he set the stage from past, present and future, if hindi sya nag set ng conceptual verses magiging walang kwenta ang line niya. That's the reason why his lines is effective because he set up a stage first before he throw the punch, compare to costume ni shernan to justify the concept punchline to make it relevant, mas CLEVER lang yung gl. I've been watching fliptop since 2012 til now and the evolution getting better and better, I think meta should only take advantage by new emcee kasi eventually makakagawa naman sila their own style along the way kaya okay lang sila mag adapt sa current effective style or tactics, but bad thing is if OG na sa fliptop ang mag abuse ng meta, because they should already have they own style that newbies could learn, they don't introduce new style or tactics only adapt to what's new. Yun ang pinaglalaban ni GL na dapat itaas ang sining or artform ng battle rap, same goal with blkd kaya siya nakukumpara dun, which blkd did back then, more emcee adapt lyricism in battle rap. edit : check my channel and vibe with my music, thank you!
@@JiiaiOfficial thanks for these additional insights sir! We reached out to you earlier! Maybe we can cook something up hehe.
Hearing “middle analysis” in a battle rap podcast is crazy! As a debater myself, there are so many concepts in debate that can translate well in battle rap. For instance, rebuttals. In debate, you can’t just rebut an opposing argument by saying this is wrong. You have to substantiate it. You can say that the analysis is wrong, there are missing mechanisms, there are logical leaps, the impact isn’t as huge as they claim, the our worst case scenario is better than your worst case scenario, why even if the argument is true we are still better, etc etc. The point is that this concept fits the battle rap concept. You can say “Susuntukin mo ako? Paano mo ako masusuntok eh wala kang kamay, paano mo ako masusuntok eh multo ako” etc etc. The rebuttal has to have substance. Kaya yung kargador rebuttal ni Dello kay Target still stands the test of time. Kasi di sya mema
@jeromeclarencebenter6759 It's nice to see a fellow debater here in our comments section. Your analysis on why Dello's rebuttals stand the test of time rings very true, we feel like that's what made GL's ender rebuttal so special as well, albeit mas layered yung kanya given that he used it to wrap up the entire theme of the battle, a la a good whip speech - really tickled my debater brain. Hahaha. Aside from rebuttals, I feel like there are a lot of foundational concepts in debate talaga that translate well to battle rap. Bringing arguments to their most logical extents, running stakeholder analyses, and making necessary concessions, for example. I was a fliptop fan before I ever made it to Nationals and I'm super thankful that I was exposed to battle rap before throwing myself into debate because it gave me an intuitive understanding of how to structure a speech. We'd love to do a video essay on the Ph debate scene or dedicate an episode of the podcast to how similar battle rap is to debate one of these days. We'll see though. Marami naman oras. Hahaha. Padayon, kapwa anak ng diskurso.

First time listening to this podcast, I think I'd stay for a long while. Anyway, GL's style became "meta" after some emcees inside/outside of Fliptop tried or try to duplicate his style. Emcees calling out that his style is only effective because it's the "meta" is actually a really good compliment for GL since he's the one who popularized it in his own way, especially his train of thoughts scheme.
i agree with u on this brader. given naman nang may rhyming ability si aklas and we are familiar din sa tinutukoy mong era ni aklas na tumutugma siya. siguro it's for reference purposes na we'd like to use it as an example yung unorthodox writtens niyang walang rhyming and puro theatrics para magkaro'n kami ng easily distinguishable scale of rhyming levels. we trust what anygma sees in them emcees, even the ones that might've been a lost cause like fonger and badang.
yes lodss, someone commented kahapon about this and i stand corrected sa analysis ko sa vid wahahaha i think what i just wanna say is, there are angles sa battles na might've seemed convincing/effective but when expressed plainly doesn't have negative implications or connotations
GL is definitely overrated but that definitely doesn't mean na di niya deserve yung ganung recognition. GL has been the best sa sulatan and he keeps doing it battle after battle. I do slightly disagree dun sa sinabi na "GL's style is nothing new ginawa na ni BLKD yan", kung pokemon terms man, BLKD is the 2nd form at yung style ni GL siguro yung final evolution ng lyricism at peak of written.

19:46 just additional info din, yung tactics na ginamit ni pistol and lhip, I've first seen it in gl vs zend luke, yung line something like "bilangin nyo kung ilang (ako) (ako) ang babanggitin nya"
20:30, for me GL created a meta that they mostly used today,
example :

additional notes - the used for train of thought is not only the way gl represented it katulad ng transition from st. peter to peter parker to mary jane wordplay to weed / the whole concept of this is writing each verse connected to the next line or creating bridge for smooth transition, para di kalat ang thoughts using different angle and it helps emcee to remember the next line by relying with the previous line instead of writing it separately without bridge, which is hard to remember.

bullshit is a additional punch after the last line,
