Concord not being free to play is an unwise decision in 2024 when every other similar style game is free to play
Its not f2p and knowing Sony i will not be shocked if they ask 50/60$ for the game. The game should be at max 40$ like helldivers

I agree with Mike. I’m not very sure what to expect out of Concord after that gameplay trailer and don’t play on playing. On the other hand, Astro Bot looks awesome easily my most anticipated game for the rest of year currently.
5\10 showcase for me. Apart from Astrobot, it's just mid games and remake to me. The 5\10 are just for AstroBot that look AMAZING.

I was really excited about playing that single player, planet hopping space heist adventure game Concord. Then it turned into a 5v5 shooter… sad times.
The game you describe would be a system seller.

I don’t often watch kinda funny content anymore, but came to see their thoughts on this state of play specifically. People outside of the overwatch community don’t realize that the entire fanbase of overwatch is always one step away from never playing that game again, so concord and marvel rivals are positioned very uniquely to scratch that itch for a whole community that has been unhappy with how overwatch has been handled. So it should be interesting to see what happens once those games are out alongside overwatch

Yall are over thinking Concord weekly cinematic thing. How many cutscenes does the average AAA game have? How many weeks could you get out of that if you broke it down in 3-5 minute chunks? They must have several months in the tank already.
I thought the same, they'll have plenty in the backlog and will release those each week.
i just hope it's more like Fortnite and less like Silent Hill Ascension in terms of weekly story content. i hope it finds success, i think it looks good, even though live service isn't something i personally have time for these days.

Concord will save thoughts for the hands on. I don’t love what I saw but if it plays well I’ll give it a shot.

It was a C-. Even with low expectations, it was still underwhelming. Should've been called, 'State of PC'. Astro Bot was the only good original thing I saw.
I do agree with Greg that Playstation is shit at communicating and marketing about PSVR2
I hope some game, in the future, stands on the shoulders of Concord’s weekly cutscenes by adding player choice to it through decision making during scenes (keep expectations low, think more classic FMV games than something like Life is Strange/Mass Effect).
Astro Bot, Where Winds Meet, and Dynasty Warriors Origins for me. Other than that it's whatever.
My thing is, wasn't this state of play supposed to be showing what's coming in the fall? I wasn't expecting anything big to begin with, and I don't really expect a lot of BIG hitters at SGF if I'm being honest. I am assuming that SGF will be showing a lot of what's coming for the rest of the year. If not, wow. Don't get me wrong I'm eating good, being a fighting game fan and jrpg fan, and then I have a backlog from the last 2 years I have to get to as well. BUT for those that's just mainstream or big hitters only, OUCH!!

Man the panel were so down on concord and we haven't even had a deep dive yet. I thought it showed plenty of promise but a little too much like other games. If its free to play I'll definitely check it out but if its paid ill check the reviews on if its worth putting down my money.
Was the playstaion in the astro sand area that all the ps products flew at that lifted up out of the sand. Was that the ps5 pro?

The only things that excited me were Marvel Rivals Venom and Adam Warlock, Ragnarok on PC, and Dynasty Warriors.
Astrobot and Monster Hunter are good but they don't pique my Interest. Maybe when Astro Bot comes out I'll see what the reviews are like.
I also know the difference between a showcase and a state of play so I didn't expect anything crazy anyways.

I wanted PSVR2 to be the one that made me say i have to buy a headset. Then i wanted the Apple Vision Pro to be that. And both kind of fall flat to me, at their respective price points. Maybe once the Vision Pro comes down a bit and there’s more content there that’ll be my one. I’m not sure what PS could do to win me. Like you guys point out, they seem not to really care. Feels like the Vita. Great tech, getting left out to die a slow death
There’s no impact on the shots and hits in concord. Didn’t look satisfying. Astrobot was definitely the highlight, 6/10 seems fitting
On the marvel rivals story point I think a tie in comic would be awesome but anything more is unnecessary I feel

For a state of playing I'd give this an 8/10, good variety, a couple of big hitters, finally got to see concord gameplay and both souls like/action games looked cool.

I can’t wait for Astro Bot. I’m with Mike I think the design has a Sony vibe maybe because he has the same shape of sack boy and now I associate Astro bot with PlayStation nostalgia thanks to playroom. Also that PS2 set design you guys have is fucking sick. Great show.

I'm with Mike. Concord looks painfully generic and boring. That cinematic was dollar store GOTG. The gameplay is giving me Lawbreakers vibes. It just screams Jim Ryan all around and I hate that sm.
I mean even Cliffy B couldn't make Lawbreakers work and Gearbox couldn't make Battleborn work. I have no idea how Concord or the Marvel one will do well
Marvel one will cause it’s marvel and has personality
The amount of crack addicts feening to play Marvel Rivals over the 10 day period of the Closed Alpha Test tells me it's already doing better than Battleborne and Lawbreakers.
It has the Marvel License which is already a big bump. Saw lots of people from Marvel Snap playing, and also it's not held back by the MCU and is taking from the comics.
Also Gameplay is actually fun
Battleborn was good and on the way to being great. bad marketing, bad timing, Randy being Randy ruined that one, and LawBreakers was fun as well, but again, bad timing, bad marketing, and weird business strategy with its release. the games themselves were good, it was everything around them that ultimately killed them. Concord has more of a struggle unless they pull an Apex or Finals, but i think Marvel-Overwatch will have a better shot, because it's Marvel, and it may actually be better than current Overwatch... time will tell.
I’m hyped for concord and will probably preorder for the beta. If the beta sucks then I’ll cancel the preorder but I’m at least giving PlayStation a chance since theyre finally making an online shooter after a decade long wait
cant wait to play marvel rivals for a bit and then see how expensive cosmetics are and drop off it real quick.
4-5 is about all I could give it but I will say astro bot looks so good
Silent Hill 2 does not look like a $70 game it just looks kind of great value horror game.
There was story to Marvel Rivals, you just needed to actually play more than you guys did ❤

Concord looked a lot like Destiny to me. The gameplay and map reminds me of playing D2 PVP.
Not surprising seen as the Devs are ex bungie. The guys revolver is like 'the last word' handcannon, they even had the hunters tripmine and throwing knife animations lol
I think that Concord cinematic was actually pretty cool, I’d totally play a game like Guardians of the Galaxy from a couple years ago with that crew. The game they’re making, however, is just unappealing to me in every way.

Where Winds Meet is an Open World RPG, closer to Ghost of Tsushima in terms of difficulty. It is not a souls like.
The one thing that excites me about Concord is the idea of putting story progression between the multiplayer matches. I think it should remain totally skippable, but I’ve been kind of wondering when multiplayer games would instill more context, story, and stakes between each match or set of matches of gameplay. Imagine an optional story and Mass Effect-style relationship builder between the crew with varying approaches to the storytelling. Might seem like a bit much, but when executed well, we’ve seen other experimental mashups take off. Turn-based combat and relationship collectathon in Midnight Suns, Hades’ mansion versus the combat gameplay, Persona 5’s JRPG combat mixed with deep social sim gameplay. The list goes on of similar successes. Even with Baldur’s Gate 3, Stardew Valley, and Yakuza Like a Dragon, the mashup doesn’t really matter. People just tend to enjoy having a reason to invest in their personal relationship with the characters.

Marvel online games on consoles have had a very short shelf life. I hope this one does better then their last attempt but I’m not too optimistic. We know a popular IP does not guarantee a successful game.
If you look for leaks you’ll find them. Their bearing has nothing to do with the review score?
Look this was just fine for a State of Play in isolation.
But the fact that Sony hasn’t shown us anything major first party in years now and doesn’t communicate either is indicative that something went very wrong under Jim Ryan. I think he was definitely fired after seeing another State of play that is frankly barren.
Its kind of stunning to me that Xbox is the party that is struggling so hard while Sony has basically has failed to deliver completely with this generation in its later half.

- Nothing from any project connected to Horizon Zero Dawn.
- Still nothing from Cory Barlog project at Santa Monica
- Still nothing from Blue Point ( i mean wtf not even a short teaser trailer)
- Nothing from Bend
- No Spiderman 2 DLC
-No Ghost 2
- Nothing from Housemarque, which is perhaps the most understandable out of all of these but you would think they could have build upon what they got for a second Returnal game.
Jim Ryan really seemed to have mismanaged all these studios, and while Helldivers is amazing his whole “ as a service revolution” seemed to have screwed up everything operationally.
Games take time, but I think saying they haven't shown us anything major first party in YEARS is insane

I truly believe the 60/40 push (in terms of live service) was a bad idea. Sony are market leaders for a reason and their brand identity was working. I understand branching out to mobile and live service but Imo they went too hard on it.

Astro Bot, No way better than Mario Wonder
Honestly, I think they are speaking the truth. From what we see, Astro Bot clears Mario Wonder in terms of visuals, character design, level design, worldbuilding and boss fights. Only thing I see Mario Wonder beating Astro Bot in is mechanics and that’s only because they had an insane amount of mechanics due to Wonder Effects. I enjoyed Mario Wonder, and is probably the best 2D Mario game they’ve made, but nowhere near the best 2D platformer.
Sony has gotten way too comfortable...
It's actually the opposite, Sony changed tact and pushed the majority of their budget into live service instead of single player. They've changed from what got them here in the first place
Concord is made by ex bungie devs, I see it as an arena shooter not overwatch.
It seems like a hybrid between both. Character driven skill and weapon selections of Overwatch mixed with faster paced arena gameplay of Destiny/Halo. A game with the feel of Destiny and the more rigid balance of a typical competitive shooter is quite compelling.
So ex bungie devs made a hero shooter
And the pvp part of destiny was awful. It those ex devs are from destiny, this wont be good.

@@R0ndras Destiny PvP has always suffered from the RPG and gear systems interfering with its balance. The core gameplay is not the issue and is widely considered the greatest strength of the mode. Concord taking a core gameplay framework similar to Destiny and applying it to a rigid balance environment by default solves the #1 problem with Destiny PvP.
All the PSVR2 clowns I said from day 1 this will not be supported dead in a year kinda funny defended it at first then came around feel genuinely sad for the people who bought one

The hot sauce guy has the fun guy spirit of starlord, the woman had the badass and impatience of Gomorrah (also female), the big purple guy has the same dry and matter of fact delivery of drax...who is also big and purple and the robot who hardly says anything is Groot 🤷

Kinda sucks that they're reviewing the showcase on if the games personally speak to each other instead of how the showcase actually...showcased.
I thought the showcase was an easy 8/10 if we're reviewing it on its own merits and if I'm reviewing it on the games that I'm interested in personally then it's another 8/10. Lots of games that speak to me here.
Astrobot is the homie. It's the only game I'm actually hyped for.

If this was an Xbox showcase they would have given it a 4 😂 let's be honest, the state of play was so mediocre considering how quiet Playstation have been on big games.

It gets a 5/10 for me it was astrobot what recovered it but it's definitely not going to be a game of the year there's too many big games coming for the rest of the year as for Concorde it will flop needed to be free to play because it's just the same overwatch rip off which you can play for free
You say Concord has a personality but it’s not their own. They are clearly taking from Marvel and Gaurdians of the Galaxy. There does not seem to be any innovations to the game play. Looks like the other games on the market. Only thing that this game may have a positive for is weekly movies to learn more about this world. Other games could and should do this but my question is, Does anyone really want to get to know more about these knockoffs?

@@mjgowjr15 yeah ones third person and very team and abilities based whereas the other has classic fps game design at the forefront. Marvel Rivals appeals to the Overwatch crowd, which is fps, but really focuses on hero abilities and positioning over just aim and agility. Concord appeals to the Destiny Crucible, Halo, Valorant, etc, crowd which has a more hardcore focus on shooty shooty guns

multiplayer games aren't really my thing anymore, but i do love the retro-futurist visual language, character designs and art direction of *Concord,* so if they put out an art book i'll grab one. i'd like to know more about *Antara,* and i'm always down for some mindless *Dynasty Warriors* Musou nonsense. i want *Silent Hill* to be good. we''ll see. *Monster Huner Wilds* might finally be *my* Monster Hunter. *Alien* in VR? could be amazing if they get it right. and seeing numerous "Asian Male Leads"™ in this showcase shows once again how disconnected from reality & immersed in bigotry last week's "Yasuke" instalment of the insidious "culture wars" is. some folks only see what they're conditioned to see. sad. overall, *7/10* showcase for me.

I understand that gut reactions are a thing but to be so dismissive of a game that has some serious talent behind it seems very naive to me. I don't remember Helldivers 2 looking like it'll make a big splash either when we first saw it but here we are. Concord doesn't need to be a Fortnite beater but as long as it finds it's audience it'll be fine.
Maybe they're just jaded on Xbox shutting down studios that aren't "high impact" so now they expect that from everything

Couldn’t agree more with Greg about PSVR2. It’s one of the more technically impressive pieces of hardware the company has put out, but PlayStation themselves let the unit die before it was even released. We discussed this at launch, people. Outside of a VR mode in a niche racing game and a really short spinoff, PlayStation has clearly just given up on the thing. Not even a WHIFF of a future title from PS Studios. It’s saddening to see just a good unit wasted by the company that made it. One of the biggest fumbles in gaming history.

It's ya boy. I'm a vrchat player and quests are not good enough for me. I had a quest 2, and went backwards to the rift s. it's got trash black and white cameras, and is not supported anymore. Yet in vrchat it's still more powerfull allowing me to have full body tracking and highly detailed custom avatars/worlds that i make/edit myself in unity. If your only in vr a couple hours a day, then yes a quest 3 is for you. But as someone with almost 1000 hours in vrchat, its an underpowered slog. When looking at wired pc vr headsets you'll find nothing but $1000+ headsets. So yes, You might think psvr2 is expensive, but the conversion box thing they are making can be $100 and it would still be at least $300 cheaper. So i say again. If you are a serious pc vr user, this should be on your raider. It's this newer oled, wide fov, eye tracking headset, a 5 year old index, or all these under powered wireless headsets. I love you all, but PSVR2 is a good deal for us pc players that have moved past the quest.
Behemoth will be best played on PSVR2!!! Like you guys are out of touch with VR!! This game will look shit in quest.

Genuine question (no trolling): why do people deem it a bad showcase just because not everyone liked the games? - 1. Playstation have such a bug audience though have to cater to everyone 2. They have so many games on the way, they'll be saving some announcements for other showcases etc... 3. It's awful but if we get Ghost 2 it's 8?

That was a good State of Play. Bunch of games that looked cool and had me interested.
Silent Hill 2 looks good, but everything else didn't. Especially Concord.
There's something about the characters faces that look kinda indie? to me. It looked kinda cool but not as high budget as I would of hoped.

I actually think this is result of stupid console wars. And it’s disheartening to see the amount of hate for Concord after Helldivers 2 blowing up. I couldn’t care less about Helldivers 2, and that’s the biggest game of the year, but I am genuinely intrigued by Concord and Marvel Rivals, and Astro Bot is the most hyped I’ve been for a PlayStation game since Wolverine’s and Spider-Man’s announcements. I guess that not knowing the leaks and not following Kinda Funny as I used to is a blessing in disguise, I feel like people just know too much about these announcements far ahead of them happening. I can’t believe people aren’t completely going insane with Astro Bot, because I know I am.

It's definitely entitlement imo. Gamers are so bipolar with their opinions these days, it's like a game is either Incredible or terrible with no interest in the 6-7/10 games.
Kids simply have so much entertainment at their fingertips that they've lost touch with the actual blood, sweat and tears that go into making these games.

I only watched for monster hunter wilds, and enjoyed. Concord looks like destiny x overwatch, and I’m not that excited because those two games flopped so hard after doing well initially. I think the rest was a blur tbh. And I’m not a fan of platformers so… overall I watched for one thing and I was satisfied lol
To be fair, destiny and over watch only flopped due to mismanagement, not due to any lack of quality with the core gameplay. The fact concord is a live service is much more damning that the fact it looks like destiny and overwatch imo
@@jacksonjabba this is true, and as an enjoyer of both og destiny and og overwatch, this didn’t excite me… I’d like to wait and see more but if it’s a full priced game/a ps5 exclusive I probably won’t be getting it.

Was decent for a State of Play, which means it was pretty bad.
I needed a Ghost 2 title reveal, just a logo, at the end to make it a good State of Play.
8/10 for me Astro looks great, Concord looks great, I'm interested in a new Dynasty Warriors, MH Wilds is obviously amazing, Both VR games look great, Where Wind Meets and Antara? Idk how we can look at this list like meh. I don't understand the expectations at this point.
I think Astro Bot looks fantastic! It’s a day 1 buy for me. It’s never going to sell though.
