I totally get the attachment issue as when Gypsy was given to Molly, another girl wanted her but the trainers had to explain that it was Gypsy that wanted Molly.
@@Angela-lo5bw yes. Exactly My pet was chosen by me. My partner wasn't wanting a dog really. This was my pup. BUT the jerk chose her and snuggles only with her lol he has made me his obedience person.....he is so formal with me lol I never tried to get that roll lol
Same here. As soon as I got the notification, I ignored what I was doing and immediately went to watch the video. I too cannot wait to see the latest furry addition to the Burke family. 🦮
When prematching, my school considers preferences and deal breakers, but at the end of the day, preferences are low on the priority list. I know of one student who asked for a light colored dog as he could see the silhouette against the dark wood floor in the house. That request was granted and he was matched with a nearly white dog. Beyond the initial interviews the prematch is fairly final unless an issue arises during the first week of class.
Same with Mira - they take your preferences into consideration when pulling dogs for you to try and when discussing your thoughts on each dog, but the gender, look, breed, etc. is lowest on the list when actually making the final decision!
That was what my neighbour wanted too and his poodle is a light blonde/beige color much like a golden retriever and he needed a pretty tall dog with a higher shoulder height because he is a pretty tall dude himself so they tired to match that as best as they could. So he has a really light colored tall poodle and they are perfect for each other and that dog is beautiful.
I just watched the documentary called "A Friend in Sight" about when you got Gallop! I must say that documentary was super inspirational but it had a sort of sad undertone to it, watching you create a series yourself is much better because it has such a different happy personal vibe to it! Keep up the good work, these are my favorite videos you've ever made so far
Part of it might be her real mood then and now. When she got Gallop, she had lost Gypsy suddenly, and it was her first time changing dogs. This time, she's been able to make the choice to retire Gallop and decide it's time for a new dog, and it's her second time changing guides. It seems like she simply is happier and less distressed now than she was then. Pretty sure she described being so upset the last time that she nearly left wtihout even completing training, because the emotion involved with getting a new dog after Gypsy's death was so hard.
@@FlamingoCollective if you search “a new friend in sight” it should come up popped up straight away for me so think it’s by AMI or a similar name anyway 😊
It's like Christmas morning every time a new episode comes out. I just cannot wait to see the new baby and feel so special being a part of this process in Molly's life
I love the point Molly just made about preference. That is something that individuals could struggle with, but the up side to not pre-matching will always be the feeling of being part of the decision as a team.
Very interested to understand this! You are talking about an upside of the the dog already being pick for you, correct? I wouldn’t imagine that would feel like being a part of the decision as a team, but I have no experience with the process. Would you be open to explaining more?
@@nextupnow Aww. I am so sorry. I mistyped! Thank you for commenting so I could fix it. I meant that not pre-matching and the way Mira treats the matching process is very inclusive. Molly even knows the statistics of how the dogs are placed. Lifestyle, environment, personality, all of it. At the school I attend, we are told personality, pace and pull. I’d like to say more goes into The Seeing Eye’s process of placing a dog, but as a student there, I don’t know.
@@mansiondionne Ahh, that makes sense!! Can definitely see that benefit, but I’m sure the prematching have really honed their matching skills and have great success with their pairing. Thanks for sharing a bit about your thoughts/experience :)
As someone with a service dog (he does guiding, but he's not a guide dog. His main job is seizure alert and mobility assistance), I must say the preference thing was really hard for me. I have always had a preference for male dogs and just couldn't see myself with a female (I did work with a female in competition rinks and I loved her so much, but I just generally do better with males). I also wanted a specific colouring and height and so on. The unknown was so hard for me and all the stress it brought made it worse. In the end I did get my male dog, but I didn't get my (back then) colour preference nor height preference. I was a bit disappointed at first, but my service dog was 100% the right choice and I fell in love so hard. I couldn't have been an as effective team with any of the other dogs lined up (3 other males and 2 females). From that experience I just learned to go with it and that the right dog will end up by my side. I did also love having a say in what I wanted and I don't think I could feel as comfortable with a prematch. That would just honestly be more unknowns and more stress for me.
I’d prefer to be prettymatch with a guide dog. The only thing that a request is to have a female dog, with a fast paced walk in with a hard pool. Because it would be very stressful for me to have to pick my guide dog.
I love when your editor does commentary cause while I can see everything it’s still so nice to have that extra understanding of what’s going on. But it also makes me so aware of how essential that is for people who are blind. Can’t wait to meet the new pupper!!!
I really loved seeing all the different kind of harness/handles that are used based on the purpose of the dog!! I love that we get to support you in this journey of finding a new guide while also being educated!!
I worked as a home care helper for a blind woman. Her dog was so bound to her he cried when she went to the doctor or podiatrist's inner sanctum and she left him with me in the waitingroom.. He slept quietly through many a long concert at her feet beneath her chair. He waited patiently never even licking his chops through steak dinners in fancy restaurants. He was superb. He was a chocolate lab with a huge broad massive head. We became great friends as I often took him on his walks because it was easier for me to clean up after him. I never saw that dog guide her in a misstep despite cracked pavement or narrow paths. He pulled somewhat which hurt her arthritic back a bit but he was sure and steady. He's gone now. Cancer got him when he got older. The guide dog foundation would have taken him back for his last days but the pair could not be separated. He stayed with his partner to the end.
That's interesting; I took a very small amount of French in school so I'm by no means an expert, but her accent just sounds wrong to me, because I'm not familiar with it. Before anyone comments (including you, Molly) I do not in any way mean to insult Molly's accent, it's just not what I'm familiar with.
@@drewharris7785 well i'm a french canadian from Québec city, really close to Montréal where Mira is, and of couuuurse there are some words that she's not saying perfect, but to me hearing someone learning parts of french in Québec is incredible! Because usually second language french learners will much more have the France accent. Molly really says the québécois "r" de right way. Like in the command "reste" (stay), she clearly uses the r like we french talker do, it's more crisp and not round or rolling (like in the words round or rolling 😂). Anyway, she still has work to do, but to me and to the dogs, she is really clear in most of her commands 😊
@@drewharris7785 i speak French and I think it’s because the Canadian French accent is veeery different from the typical French accent you learn, especially for the “r” and the nasal sounds!

Thank you for sharing this, I can only imagine how much help this would be for someone who might be going through this for the first time.
As a French subscriber it’s so funny, and enjoyable to hear you say the command in French, that must have been pretty hard to learn this command in another language, it’s actually pretty impressive how hard you work to get a chance to find the perfect dog even if you have to put more efforts in that French speakers while you could have chose other options. It’s really shows the appreciation that you have for this place.
Couldn't agree more, it's funny how her accent came back much more French French than Quebec French (didn't know how to say that in English lol), I thought with accents u just learn what u heard first

Hey Molly, I just want to thank you for recommending the documentary when you got gallop, a friend in sight I believe it was called. This is my first year being a part of the disabled community and it's been a really hard year, full of grief. When I look online for disabled creators or on social media I find people who are so far along in their journey and have a lot of what comes with being disabled figured out. Sometimes it just makes me feel like I'm a failure, and when you shared you experience of just feeling like people look at you like all you are is your disabilities, I've really been struggling with that this year and you were the first person I ever heard share that experience. It really meant a lot to me to hear that I'm not the only one struggling with this and I just really appreciate your honesty and vulnerability. I know that can be a really hard thing especially today, but it's so important and incredibly brave. Thanks for what you do!
At The Seeing Eye, our harness manipulation is called, Juno. So we go on a Juno walk where the trainer or an instructor will hold the harness and at like the dog. It’s cool to know Mira does the same thing!

Congratulations! I just wanted to let you know I am an apprentice guide dog trainer and your videos have taught me so much and really helped me on my path to my dream job! Thank you!
Hi Molly! I am a puppy raiser for a guide dog school in the United States. The guide dog school I puppy raise for does pre-match but they do take into account the graduates’ opinions and preferences with the walk and personality of the dog. I can tell you that one of the puppies that I raised was called early for a class because his now handler did not like the fit of her pre-matched selection (she was too slow) and so they pulled him to try for her and she loved him. So I just wanted you to know that there are some changes made within the pre-match process for other schools as well! I am so in love with watching you go through this process! Following along has been so much fun for me as a puppy raiser! Thank you for sharing!!

I’ve watched your videos for years though admittedly I’m not much of a commenter on RUclips. But I just wanted to quickly say that I’ve just finished watching the documentary of how iconic king gallop came into your life. It’s such a wonderful time capsule and a contrast to where you are now in many ways. Your pain then was so visceral. Your heartbreak so raw. My heart was shattered for you, and yet so filled with pride thinking my god if only 20 year old Molly could know how much better it’s going to get. How much life she is going to live. How much joy she’s going to feel. How much of a brilliant, beautiful sparkling light beam she’s going to be in this world. You made it all happen. You are the absolute bees knees Molly. Thank you for sharing this difficult but necessary adjustment from Gallop to your next pup in all its painful and joyful reality. Sending you huge love and wishing you so much happiness and boundless adventure with your new dog by your side every step of the way 💛

I'm absolutely riveted by this series Molly! I'm a dog owner and I know how exciting /anxiety inducing the process of getting a new dog is, but obviously getting a new guide is on another level! I mean, this is getting your new "eyes", a best friend and partner. Wow it must be so exhausting to go through the process but so worth it. Exactly! That's part of why they don't pre-match... they like to see which dog actually responds to you and which doesn't - some dogs don't want to work for some people but LOVE to for others!
@@MollyBurkeOfficial I totally agree with that take. Dogs (and cats) do have strong preferences too and behave very differently with people they click with or don't. My cat, who's super shy and always hid at the rescue actually came straight to me to get petted and when she was satisfied she walked into my transport box and lay down. So I'd argue that it's important for handlers and the dogs as well to get a say whether they like each other or not.
Won’t lie, it made me tear up to see how these dogs are so excited to be in harness and work. It’s not something forced, but a purpose that they enjoy! I have a feeling molly went home with the energetic pup that was jumping a lot. 🤣 And gallop 2.0 was a lot like gallop! 😯 He would have likely made a good match, but I could see how it could be easier to compare him to gallop and that might bring unnecessary challenges.
Exactly! So often when I am out with my service pup people think it's sad, but he loves his job and will get mad at me when I do not bring him! Even if it's just to get the mail! Most things are just a big fun game for them. I mean what mobility dog doesn't love playing fetch all day!
People often forget that dogs were bred to work and some of these high energy working dogs get depressed if they don't have a job. It makes them so happy to get to work!
@@alisaishere Indeed! My service dog is a MAS, which is a working breed. He needs a job or a purpose. He wouldn't be happy else and the breeder will also only sell her pups knowing the pups will be worked in at least one field of training. My service dog was the only one from the litter that made it as a service dog, but all the pups from his litter have some sort of job or extensive training now. One is finishing up his training as a therapy dog, one is a working stable dog, one is a competition dog and so on. It's so fun to watch how excited they are for work!
Loving this content!!!!! So interesting and helpful!!! I'm a manual wheelchair user and my lab/golden retriever service dog is trained to pull me but only on flat surfaces. I want a Bernese next time- I didn't realize they can pull up ramps!!!
Molly, you’ve done such a good job entertaining and informing in this series. Thank you for sharing so much of this valuable bonding adventure. I’m a 63-year old male, but teared up when you reacted to Gallup 2.0. Sweet. Looking forward to the reveal.
As a person who went to a school that did pre-match… I do have to say that I did have a say. I was given the dog that I eventually ended up with… But there was several conversations that I did with my trainers where we talked about things that were different and things that could have been better. They considered switching me to another dog but I ended up staying with Roger. There was another gentleman in my class who did end up having a dog switch a couple days into training. His switch ended up being the one he went home with… So even though we are pre-matched… We did have a say and switches can happen.
What an amazing process. I can't imagine how hard it must be every time you go, for different reasons. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us!
Gallop energy!! Molly my daughters brought me to you, and now I am hooked. To be honest at first I felt sad that you were blind..Not anymore. I am only proud of you. Molly! I literally just had a short convo with someone over on your discord about the pull/tension of the guide dogs and I was trying to explain how each dog walks differen. The jiggle back and forth, I call it a sway, the bounce, the even glide. How does the new pup and gallop walk compared to each other?
I was pre-matched with my German Shepherd based on the fact that everyone else in training was 40 plus. I was the only one who could handle her speed and she was super fast at first, but I'm also very active and so it took time but we learned each other's strides.. I'm so glad that I was matched with her because our personalities work so well together. She's super attuned to me and playful and smart, but If given the chance I would have liked to try other dogs just to know the differences. This is my first guide and I absolutely know that there's things about other dogs that I might prefer later on in life but it's difficult because German shepherds as a breed are so fantastic too and I can't imagine having another type of dog now by my side.
I just want to say how much you’ve touched my heart. I was so ignorant about the blind community and disability in general and you have enlightened me so much. I’ve wanted to be a vet since I was 5 (I’m 15 now) and now I’m considering going into the whole dog training/guid dog thing. I’m still very ignorant on the topic but I’m on my way to learning more and it is all thanks to you. You are such a blessing

So many people including myself would know so much less about the blind community if it weren't for you! I appreciate you, and I'm excited to see the next chapter in your journey 🥰
Molly is my new para social bff. She just helped me get through my 2nd round of covid and I am binging random videos out of order. I watched the videos of Elton John first. She was so upset and needed all the love. Molly said that other people had told her when you let your dog retire and a positive experience you want the same dog… and when you say goodbye to you soon you want a dog that’s opposite. And this experience with BenBen was positive because Gallup is back home happy with her dad. But in 2024 she has Elton John, Benny has retired and is with his puppy family, and Gallop has passed. But the real beauty is the grace Molly has shown throughout all the ups and downs. Not just with her dogs, but also in her private life and her condo. It is a beautiful thing to see. Because Molly has the ability to show hope even when she’s questioning it inside of herself. And her spirit of hope, and resilience, has pulled me through a difficult time. As a human being with hidden disability, adhd and dyslexia (my word spelling blindness, but it has constantly caused people to question my intelligence) Molly is reaffirming the lessons of Grace, that I have been taught by the universe. ❤ all you 🐝
I'm loving this series so much (but the cliff hangers... ahhh!). Are there ever guide dogs that just never end up being paired with people? How long do they stay at Mira before they get regularly adopted out?
she explained in an earlier video that dogs that don't pass the seeing eye dog standards are placed in other services depending on what and how much they pass of their training and dogs that do not reach the standards for any of their services are sold as normal well trained dogs to pet homes. dont remember all the specifics but yeah, i believe it was in the mira tour video.
@@windwolfgirl Oh, I meant dogs that are qualified but just don’t get chosen by anyone (cause she said there are 12 dogs and 6 people in the group I think). So I was wondering if some dogs just don’t get chosen and what happens to them. Sorry for not clarifying!
I'm guessing that those that keep getting left behind, but are strong workers, might become part of the breeding program there. I can't imagine that they would adopt out well trained and efficient workers after all the work they put in them.
@@alisaishere they tend to neuter the dogs before they start working as guides and they usually chose the dogs for breeding beforehand I'm sure the dogs eventually find a partner in the classes I hope it doesn't take too many classes for them to find a match.

You are not alone- I too struggle with similar disorders and have been looking into this. Emotional support animals just don't give as much support as a true service animal, but the amount of training that goes into a service animal makes it so much more expensive. @@achap9812 thank you so much! Do you know where there are puppies available to show me what trainers are in my area that can help me select the right dog and help me train? ❤️
I can definitely see why you prefer the option of working various dogs and finding your match. I must say, the biggest benefit I felt with owner-training was over here everyone is more or less pre-matched, and I felt so strongly about getting to pick my partner myself. When I chose m pup he was 11 weeks old, I got to meet his mum, his older full-sister, and his litter-sister. Obviously he's still not even 2 so he's noot fully developed yet and it's been a process getting to know eachother, but at this point we know eachother well enough that we can communicate very easily in most situations. It also makes so much sense to me that they would not train the dogs to respond to that kissy-noise, because that is sucha PITA distraction to deal with when you're out and about! I personally don't use it at all with my boy... I have a tongue-click as an "attention-noise" instead, just to not hand that trumph card to jerks who want to distract him!

I watched it last night too!
Do you happen to have the link? I can't find it
Part of it might be her real mood then and now. When she got Gallop, she had lost Gypsy suddenly, and it was her first time changing dogs. This time, she's been able to make the choice to retire Gallop and decide it's time for a new dog, and it's her second time changing guides. It seems like she simply is happier and less distressed now than she was then. Pretty sure she described being so upset the last time that she nearly left wtihout even completing training, because the emotion involved with getting a new dog after Gypsy's death was so hard.
do you have the link by any chance?

I love the analogy with the speed-dating the dogs instead of showing up at the altar 😅
The smaller gallop photo for his smaller brother had me laughing so loud
The dogs tails wagging as they work makes me so happy 😊
They love their jobs!
I love when your editor does commentary cause while I can see everything it’s still so nice to have that extra understanding of what’s going on. But it also makes me so aware of how essential that is for people who are blind. Can’t wait to meet the new pupper!!!

I love hearing Molly speak french. She almost has the "accent québécois" and i'm living for it
That's interesting; I took a very small amount of French in school so I'm by no means an expert, but her accent just sounds wrong to me, because I'm not familiar with it.
I love this guide dog series so much! I'm learning so much about the process and I'm so excited for you!

Wow! This video has such good examples of when pups seem to tune in to you and your commands, vs. when they’re guiding but not tuned-in

@Dan Sgambelluri I can't wait for Friday's video. I'm sighted but I'm learning so much about guide dogs. I find it fascinating.

I’m confused. Molly said “I think you saw me work all of them except the one that I ended up with on Tuesday night.” Please correct me if I’m wrong because I’m so curious!!
@@oudehmish yes but she also said Tuesday's pick wasn't final. So could be one dog and she got a different one by Friday.
@@cinnamoon1455 thanks for clarifying! :)
Molly, I am so excited for you. Thanks for taking us on the journey. Love you so much and good luck with your new pupperoni!!
Ahhh we are meeting the new puppy! This new chapter will be so exciting and we are all excited to come along the journey with y'all 💜🐕
I cannot get over how adorable and precious your mom and you are. So thankful to watch such a beautiful family.
I love this series and I am learning a lot. I am actually at college campus in student government and I would love to be able to help the guide dog users to make campus more accessible. I want campus to be more accessible when I graduate to make sure to help future students.
Loving your advocacy for the future and am sure you will improve the accessibility of your campus! Molly is a great teacher - gaining insight into her neighborhood in the human community.
This series is awesome! It is educating people on something so important. These pups and the people who train them & the Mira foundation are incredible!! So glad you are raising awareness!
So close to 2M subscribers congratulations Molly ☀️🎉 and thank you (as always) for letting us in on such an important moment in your life xx
Showing all of the harness types is so interesting and educational! Thank you :)
With different time zones and my lack of understanding of them I have been waiting for this video all day (a grand old 20hours and 41mins) it’s so exciting to get to see it!!
As soon as I saw Polly walking with you I got such good vibes. You two were so aligned from this side of the camera.
I can’t wait for the big reveal! This series has been incredible and so educational! I love seeing all the dogs working and the videos seem so short because I just can’t wait to see more! Thank you for sharing this with us all! 🦮
I've been really enjoying this series! I have always DREAMED of having a service animal as i struggle with PTSD, anxiety and an autoimmune disorder. I deeply wish that i could afford a service animal as i know it would completely transform my life! It's been so inspiring and emotional to see you go through this process! Thank you for sharing your experiences! ❤️
You are not alone- I too struggle with similar disorders and have been looking into this. Emotional support animals just don't give as much support as a true service animal, but the amount of training that goes into a service animal makes it so much more expensive. Hopefully one day we can both be lucky enough to have one of these amazing, life altering companions.
You are strong, you are worthy and you are loved 💜
@@teagannovak3120 ❤️ I'm so sorry to hear that you struggle with this as well! I wish you all the best! I know I'm just some strange gal on the internet but if you ever need a confidant please don't hesitate to reach out to me! I have found that these conditions encourage feelings of isolation and loneliness, if you ever find yourself feeling that way please know that someone here is here for you! ❤️
I do pray that one day i will be able to have a companion that i can trust as fully as a service animal allows. ESAs are really so limited in the areas where I need the most support: stores, airplanes and new places like hotels and restaurants.... I truly need a companion that can help me in moments of mental crisis 😅
You can absolutely train your own !! It's slightly less expensive I recommend hiring a trainer to help pick a dog with the perfect temperment . Not every dog can make it my retired dog has been stepped on, grabbed, run over trail by shopping cart, etc it's crazy
@@achap9812 thank you so much! Do you know where there are puppies available to show me what trainers are in my area that can help me select the right dog and help me train? ❤️
Thoroughly enjoying this series! It’s fascinating to watch the process unfold. Thank you for taking us on this journey!
Aww I love Molly! She’s so pretty and the way her face lights up when talking abt Gallop 2.0 is so adorable!
I’m still so amazed at everything guide dogs can do
I'm so excited to see which dog she'll get! My bet is the black and white girl.
