THANK YOU 🙏🏻 for sharing your knowledge. I am a few years over due to clean and stain my wood deck and your video (and some of these comments minus the whiners) helped.
Try soft washing it next time. Way easier and better results that last much longer and won't damage the wood fibers like high pressure does. 1. Wet the deck 2. Coat with a 50/50 mix of laundry bleach and water (add about an ounce of liquid laundry soap) using a pump sprayer 3. Allow mix to sit until you see the wood turn from dirty to clean, about 15 to 20 minutes 4. Rinse it thoroughly 5. Spray oxalic acid (8 oz powder per gallon of water) on the deck and let it sit 10 -15 minutes. This brightens the wood and deactivates the bleach residue so it won't break down the wood fiber. 6. Rinse it thoroughly 7. Be sure to rinse out your pump sprayers 8. Enjoy the nice new looking deck
Rrrright, because our lungs and yards want bleach all in them. Smh. Folks, don’t do this. You can, however, get a company that is environmentally safe that soft washes, though, and with better results that are human, pet and yard safe.
Nothing wakes you up faster than raking your bare feet with a pressure washer! I only say this as I saw the aftermath of an industrial worker at Chrysler who was standing with a power washer on his steel toed boot, although the washer was off when he hit the trigger it shot straight through the steel toe boot an severed two toes. Ah the joys of Paramedic stories!
Hey William, Wow! That got my attention! But it got me thinking - that since CNC water jets cut through steel plate, I guess using s pressure washer barefoot is worth reconsidering. Thanks for the story. This caution is worth repeating! Thanks for taking time to pass that story on. So, were you the paramedic on the scene?
I would agree that not wearing shoes is a BIG mistake and using your machine on the dock is the other. Leave the machine on the ground and use a longer hose,
Hey Justin, My son did this again this spring. He said it took 4-6 hours. It’s a cedar deck, so wood requires extra care so as not to gouge the wood with the water pressure. We have about 1200 sq ft of deck not including the dock. Typically people charge $0.40-0.80/ sq ft. Or you could charge hourly So at $0.40/ sq ft, ,:the charge would be $480. At $60/hr, it would be more like $360 for starters. On the high side you be talking about $1000. If there are stains or if it hasn’t been cleaned regularly, that would have to cost more. Hope that helps. I’m curious - why the question? You starting a biz?
@@Housebarons THANK YOU !!!yes I'm starting a business and I know its the kind of work that is not hard but it takes a while to complete ......i cleaned a deck today it was a friends just to see what it would take ......so I wanna make sure I charge enough that I'm not short changing my self your reply was perfect thanks again!!
@@Housebarons sorry one more question given your experience would you say there are types of wood which are harder to clean than others or would you approach the same way once detergents are involved ?
Hi Arulsmondi, TeakSeal Deck Cleaning says that would be better than ordinary water. Here is their quote: Washing the deck with salt water also deposits a small amount of salt onto it that will absorb moisture from the air and help to stop the wood from drying out. Moreover, salt water reduces mildew, mould and algae growth. Fresh water is better than no water, but salt water is certainly preferred. Thanks for the question. Let us know how your deck power washing goes!
What people don’t realize is that power washing your deck is the worst possible thing you could do. It rips apart the fibers in the wood and makes it vulnerable and susceptible to wear
Ya, but the saw mill that sawed the lumber into deck boards didn't affect the wood fibers or anything. get real power washing works great for deck restoration
YIKES! I cringed when I saw the employee pressure washing the boards in his bare feet. That pressure washer would strip the skin and possibly the muscles off of his feet in nothing flat and lead to a lifetime of disability. Always wear proper foot protection when doing pressure washing work.
When you do video on pressure washing do you really need to show me where the gas goes on a pressure washer? Get to the video on the deck. Your video showed nothing about how to pressure washing a deck. Take a minute to look and listen to your video.
Here's a tip, never power wash bare footed.
Hi Nick,
Definitely a great tip, better to have soggy shoes than a missing toe!
You have bear feet?? WTF
Lol. Bare min wear crocs I get why he did it but can get splinters, blown toe.

Man there are some haters in the comments. I am a woman and need to know where the gas goes etc... Thank you sir for your video.

We are happy to help any who welcome the information in the video… most people aren’t bitter in our experience😃 Thx for watching!

I always leave mine far away from washing area so never get wet .
Do you refinish with any product after? Stain?
Hey Jason,
Yes. We used a stain.
Thx for watching!
Power washing is heated water with a burner. Pressure washing is cold water
Hey Nathan,
Thx for pointing that out.
No its not I power wash and pressure wash using the same . cold water machine, Using a burner is called HOT PRESSURE WASHING.
What would you charge for this size deck

You should treat your deck before cleaning and then retreat it once cleaned

Do you use any pre clean to spray on deck before u wash or is that not nessary? My decks new but 3 years old but has not been stained yet
Hey Justin,
That’s a judgement call. Probably would hurt - all depends on how dirty it is. Does it get a lot of leave debris?
Thx fir watching!
Bare feet? No eye protection?
Hey Terrie,
Yup. We live and learn… sometimes the hard way.

Bare feet! Look up pressure release injuries! This activity is very dangerous!
Are using any chemical
Hi Ari, no, we only use water, then reapply the stain, works great for us, the decks look new when we are done. Thanks for the question!
@@Housebarons How long do you wait before reapplying the stain?
@@sphere6258 3 days to let it dry so the fibers in the wood will soak up the sealant.
